Two (or more) preamps is fine. A good few years ago I used an Aguilar Tonehammer DI for the tone and drive, then added in a Sansamp with everything at midday to beef it up (a trick I was shown by our producer).

Many congrats, I had one of those (the 7400 version) and it was a truly awesome amp. I paired it with a Marshall VBC412 cab and the sound was immense.

I remember that presentation Jack, I’m sure we all looked young(ish) back then.

Was the same for me when I was in Knock Off, I always thought that a 30 - 40 min set was best, full-on and unrelenting.

Yep, I`ve just started to get arthritis in my left thumb, I`ve found that playing a Jazz width neck is easiest on it but bizarrely playing my thickest necked Precision is also ok, it`s the medium sized necks I`m having trouble with so it`s clearly how I position my thumb on those that`s the issue. As such I`ve got a bit of work and many years of unlearning to do.

Yep, I read that Mick Jones of The Clash (and many others at that time) used their grants to get guitars and much of their college/university time to learn how to play.

It wouldn’t bother me if: 1 - the bass played and sounded great 2 - more importantly I knew about it before the purchase. I’d be a bit miffed to find out about it months down the line.

Good score there. I’ve done similar, picked up a bass on way to a gig and gigged it straightaway. I found it quite liberating, instead of perfect set up and correct strings it was just play the gig & enjoy it.

I can only imagine, and even then I’m sure I’d fall short of what actually went on with those guys.

Ashdown ABM600 Fave amp that I’ve owned, great sounding with very flexible eq & bags of power, light & portable enough to not be a bind to cart about (if able bodied). Marshall DBS7400 Pretty much as above though a fair bit heavier. Ampeg SVT Never owned one but loved seeing them as provided rigs, knew what I was getting and loved the sound.

As a rather bizarre one, given its links to psychobilly, I saw Wrathchild at Klub Foot.

I think DR do strings designed for drop tunings. The highest tension roundwound strings I’ve used are Rotosound steel rounds, Warwick Red Label steel rounds, and Fender nickel rounds.

I was going to comment the same as @MacDaddy, Happy World Goth Day just doesn`t seem to fit.

A mate of mine really raves about Livewire, says they`re the best AC/DC tribute he`s seen (I will get round to seeing at some point).

In my classic rock band (the one without a singer) we do a lot of the 70s stuff but really do Dio-era Rainbow well, and could probably do a tribute type band for that. But finding someone who could sing anywhere near like Dio would be practically impossible, and it’s the vox that would sell that.

That`s a good way to do things George, I left my previous band at the end of 2019 as it was just getting too much for me, gigging every weekend all over the country and Europe, but similarly if they ever need a stand in I`d happily help out and they know that. I`ve even done a gig with my new band on the same bill as them and we all had a great laugh at that one.

I’ve found via experience that walking straight into said lumps with a “excuse me” a Marshall 412 and a “cheers mate” ends up with them moving out of the way for good.

Definitely, with my Mustang bass and whatever type of back-line required - Fender Rumble combo/Ashdown RM500 head/Aguilar Tonehammer DI) I can still gig easily, and most importantly sound good (and hopefully play ok too). Without the lighter weight gear I`d have had to give up gigging last year when my back got bad, this gear has enable me to keep going.
