    Great basses to play, look and sound awesome. Pain to cart around as cases are huge, and neck dive can be quite severe. If wanting a real thud with pick playing a Tbird is a good choice.

    They’re pointless for me as I have no need of what they offer for my playing needs. If I needed the lower notes or the songs were such that moving across the neck was easier/better than up then they would be very pointiful (I think I’ve just made that word up btw).

    Being mainly in originals bands this is something I’ve not really had too much, at times we were asked for obscure album tracks that we’d never played live so not really doable if asked mid-set, though if asked beforehand we’d sometimes give it a go.

    In the punk band I was briefly playing guitar for we had a drunk lady continually shouting for some Irish music. So we said we’d play some for her, cue Suspect Device by SLF.

    I only change basslines for three reasons: I’m unable to establish what the exact line is in the first place so will play my interpretation. If doing vocals at same time and the line is too complicated to play whilst singing so I’ll simplify. I’m simply not good enough to play it, so again I’ll simplify.

    A few years back I had - at separate times - two Squier VM77 Jazz basses. The second was a good bass whereas the first was outstanding, it just felt so “right” when playing it.

    I’m pretty much there with the Fender JMJ Mustangs, would be great if they did one in road-worn Olympic white.

    I use Fender Professional cables, pretty decent, my main one I’ve had since around 2018 and it’s still going strong.

    Looks great, only ever played one Sire bass, albeit very briefly, but I was impressed at how playable it was.

    Thanks @ped, did think the pickup must have been slightly more forward as imo the Mustang sound is somewhere between that of the Precision & Jazz.

    Well I suppose because we weren’t that bothered about instruments in the monitors it made hearing the actual instruments/amps on stage easier. But re moving about, well yes you do get a sweet spot where everything is clear/massive as opposed to when moving to other places on a big stage but that never concerned me as the benefit of the 810 thing was that unless directly in front of the guitar speakers it could be heard pretty much wherever on stage I went. Set amp volume to that of the kit and enjoy the gig.

    Agree, I saw a live concert of theirs on BBC4 last week, I’d forgotten how good the bass lines on their material are.

    In my last band I was fortunate enough to play through the classic Ampeg 810 set up a good few times. As none of us were keen on bass in the monitors what wevheard was the full 810 going - admittedly with my Sansamp shaping the eq. Was wonderful, didn’t have to be mega loud (same as stage volume drums) to be heard all over the stage.

    Go for it, you might end up surprising yourself. I say this as I’ve done similar. I joined a band that I’d seen a couple of times when they played with my old band. We were street punk, they were psychobilly so although I quite liked them not my favoured genre. But when I got the CD through to learn the songs for the audition I found I really enjoyed playing them so put my all into learning them as really wanted the position. Fortunately I got it and I’m really happy in this band even though I don’t really listen to the genre that much.

    Can’t remember what band it was, saw them on Guy Garveys Vault program but it was Liverpool based and Holly Johnson was the bassist.

    I use a Wenger rucksack, very strong, well put together and plenty of compartments so I can keep things separate rather than in one big jumble. I did recently buy a Mono Pedalboard & Case - mainly for the case - and now I’m going minimal will try this. I do like Mono gear.

    Withdrawn One of the above, use it to get a better angle on the A string or use it to tighten up a low B string. £15 gets it to your door in the UK.

    Sold One of the above in good condition, no packaging or instructions but these are so easy to fit they’re not really needed. £75 gets it to your door in the UK.

    Guns N Roses, if Slash, Duff & Matt hadn’t left the three of them probably wouldn’t have formed Velvet Revolver, likewise Duff & Matt probably wouldn’t have joined The Neurotic Outsiders.
