  1. Well chaps, seeing as I may be more than a bit of a black/black/maple Fender guy I’ve bought myself a Fender Tele Deluxe (twin humbuckers) in the afore mentioned colour scheme for this gig. Whilst I slightly prefer the sound of my Epi SG I’m well aware that I play Fender guitars better so makes sense, plus fits my preferred colouring too.
  2. Well as I’ve just joined a band today on guitar I have to get a backup as only have one, other than that I’ve actually got no plans for any new gear in 2023 other than strings when needed. I wonder how long I’ll manage.
  3. Agree, don’t they know it’s all about me?
  4. So today I was asked to join a punk covers band on the skinny stringed instrument, lead guitar no less. I of course said yes, I’ve known the guys in the band for years, they only do something like 10 or 12 gigs a year and all local so nice & easy. Just gotta learn how to play lead guitar I suppose….
  5. Well if a drive around the North Circular & A10 is doable our very own @gary mac is in Hoddesden. Gary does all of the work that’s beyond me on my instruments, I’d thoroughly recommend him.
  6. Whereabouts are you Ken, many of us know good reliable local people
  7. I’ve a Mex Player Precision with pau ferro, it’s fairly dark but for me if it’s not maple then the darker the better.
  8. That’s a great line, Steve, a really good groove to it.
  9. In my current gigging band no, we don’t socialise as we all live a fair way apart from each other. In my other band, the one that doesn’t gig yes we socialise, we’ve all been mates for years. In fact in this one the being in a band/rehearsals thing is more socialising than being in a band really.
  10. They say that when you like the sound of a cab but want more power get another of the same cab, however I don’t get the feeling that you’re really happy with the 112 so maybe the 115 will suit better.
  11. There will be problems that have taken place solely due to the b word. There will be problems that were already there that it has made worse. There will be problems that were there already that it has had no effect on. And there will be new problems on which it has no bearing or involvement or cause.
  12. I really am intrigued by these. I like a “scoopy” sound and from what I’ve read these strings work well with basses with a lot of mids so reckon they should do nicely with my Precisions.
  13. Agree, am sure has to be for safety, not sure re CCTV, just the minibus type of vans.
  14. My boss at work is friends with an NHS coach driver. The coach driver rather obviously drives the coach to take patients home. Or he would, but he’s not permitted to drive the coach without another staff member in it. Which they often don’t have as it’s just as & when staff are available rather than a set duty. So he gets paid full time to sit in the office the majority of the time with an occasional drive out and taxis are called to take the patients home instead. Taxis which not only don’t have 2 NHS workers in them, they don’t have 1. Now the cost of those taxis must far outweigh hiring another member of staff (possibly 2) whose sole role would be to accompany the coach driver. I think that’s the kind of waste and bureaucracy people think of.
  15. I recall seeing a chap on Question Time saying that the NHS was founded to look after a certain sized, certain aged population funded by a proportionate budget. The first two have increased but as he said to the audience, any political party that says they will take more of our money to make the NHS work as intended is pretty much guaranteed to lose votes. So as he said, everyone votes for the party that says less tax/NI, but then complains that public services get worse. I thought he made a lot of sense (he wasn’t a politician so he had a head start there) and maybe it’s time to acknowledge that more is needed to address it. Maybe they should also get people like this chap in to advise on it.
  16. I was just listening to Radio 2 and the subject was exactly that, some real horror stories, I simply don’t know how they manage to do what they do, irrespective of salary. They really should be better appreciated.
  17. Fender all the way for me - US Professional II Precision. If Custom Shop or Masterbuilt models fell into this I’d be very happy.
  18. Nice one, I’ve been thinking about DR Black Beauties for a while which are apparently quite like Hi-Beams, just black & coated.
  19. Not got a tape measure but if you look at my avatar pic that’s how low I wear my bass and the Mono will go about another 3 or 4 inches longer - for reference I’m 6ft.
  20. A nice Mono GS1 Long strap. Had them before, sold on as wanted to stay with the look of my Dunlop ones but the back now dictates make life as easy as possible.
  21. A girl I work with has another job working behind a bar, one of her regulars is a postman and just one of the changes proposed will mean he loses £50 a week. I think it’s more this that the action is really focused on, the pay increase being a part of it of course but the main thing is the change in working practices which will mean reduction in take home pay.
  22. I thought this was going to be a thread about U2…..
  23. Ampeg SCR-DI is nice, works very well with my Fenders and my Stingray. The drive when added is good if used sparingly rather than really full on.
