Now that is a great looking old school style rig -

Beautiful dark wood ‘board on that -
Definitely get the Stuart Adamson vibe, especially with the Yammy SG!

Same here, if hard times hit and need to sell then unless bought new it’s pretty much getting your money back as well. May as well enjoy your investments - and playing a bass much more enjoyable than looking at an online bank account imo.

Great looking trio there Ander

Pretty much the same for me - reggae apart that is. After many years I’ve now realised the gear that I both enjoy playing the most, and which suits my style of playing.

Dunno about coated flats but what about nickel Elixirs? They are nice & warm sounding and they last - I get 9 months to a year from Elixirs.

It’s funny but these valves are a bit Goldilocks & The 3 Bears for me. In the ABM600 it thickens up the sound nicely on my Precision, adding in some nice harmonics but no real drive. On the OriginAL pedal I had to have the drive fully off and the input gain really backed off in order to have anywhere near a regular bass sound that wasn’t Lemmy on Schwarzeneggers steroids.

That’s my thoughts too. I’m a confirmed Precision player but if I were asked to stand in on a gig/recording session for a band outside of my preferred punk/Oi I think I would take along my Jazz.

Bassdirect are the only ones I know who stock Hipshot Xtenders

Look great, and noticeable how much more compact the SUB is. I’ve found that the shape of Stingrays suits me far better as a player, however the sound I want is that of Fenders.

Yeah, I started gigging at 16 but had the most success from 48 - 54. Add in a drink problem which affected my enjoyment of gigs from early 20s until I was 42 that’s probably why I love gigging so much at my current age of 57.

They do look nice. Price although high, well Fender Japan models generally priced inbetween US & MIM so about right I suppose.

I recently bought a SubZero kit from Gear4Music. Same theory as the WL20, one (black) bug in the instrument, the other (white) bug in the amp. Good touch that, different colours, easy to sort on dark stages. Plus it works on 5.8GHz rather than the more regular 2.4 which can be affected by lights/Wi-Fi etc. Used it at two gigs on the same charge - apparently you can get 4hrs from it. Never noticed any latency issues. At £70 I’d recommend it.

Cool pic, Tim, and even cooler looking bass!

They’re nice sounding cabs, and a lot more manageable than the ABM cabs due to the weight and smaller dimensions.

Duran Duran Duran?

I’ve had that and fortunately in my case it was pickup height so easily dealt with.

The first time I played Rebellion with Knock Off was a great gig, we’d worked towards it, and it was just great, for our first time there, playing to probably 800 people was amazing. The last time I played Rebellion was kind of bitter sweet, it was a simply fantastic gig, some 2000 plus people watching & singing along, but I knew that was to be my last Rebellion with Knock Off (they didn’t yet know that however). But the gig that means most to me was when we (Knock Off) played a gig for a guy who sadly was dying of cancer. His wife contacted us and asked if we would do it as we were his fave band. We of course said yes. I just feel that that gig had a real meaning, rather than just being a gig if that makes sense. Sadly he died a few weeks later, from what I understand his casket was carried off to one of our songs.

I get what you mean @DGBass, the first US Fender I bought, well it just had a greater feel of solidity to it that none of the previous Mex or Squiers had. It’s difficult to define but it just felt more substantial.

In general I’d say once there are no original members left, however when you look at some bands some replacements have been in the bands far longer than the person they replaced. Becomes a tad difficult then to make the call.

And apparently they cut out the Save Our Souls bit that the kids were going to sing.

Of course, how could I have forgotten that, a classic.

Leona Lewis made a decent offering with One More Sleep in 2013
