Westone Thunder ii a (2A) anyone know anything about it??
If it's an early one, this model is what later became the Thunder III - I own an almost mint 1984 Thunder III. The Westone Thunder III was the weapon of choice for Henry "King Thumb" Thomas in the BBC "Rockschool" TV series in the '80's and I can vouch for this bass being very good for the styles you mention. I was heavily into Level 42 when I bought my Thunder III, as I reckoned it had a few visual similarities to the Jaydees MK was playing at the time, without carrying the same price tag, which was out of my league! I don't slap much with my own Thunder III these days, but soloing the J pickup at the bridge gives a fingerstyle tone that's hard to beat and overall the tones available from this bass are very versatile. You mention that the bass you've been offered has 2 Precision pickups - I'm pretty sure only 1 was fitted as standard - unless you're maybe referring to the 2 "halves" of the Precision pickup? These basses came from Japan's legendary Matsumoku factory and were quality instruments made from good materials. Good examples are becoming harder to find, but secondhand prices (in my view) don't do that as much justice as it deserves. Typically, these change hands for £250 - £350 on Ebay, which is the main reason I've held onto mine since buying it new in 1985. I hope the above helps a bit, but also check out www.westone.info which is a mine of information on these basses.
Cheers for all the info, I've checked the website and actually emailed Henry Thomas too - never know, might get a reply! Thanks again for all the help J -
Henry Thomas with his Westone
Thanks for that, I remember watching that with my old man as a kid Sounds like you could dial alot more out of that bass, almost like a Fernandes Fab170 - the Alembic copy one anyway. Looks like it might be a better choice than a newer yamaha tbr1004, or others!! If I get that one, you'll soon be seeing it on youtube!! Sound also reminds me of Paul Tubbs Williams sound early 80's ish... I think he used Aria, Musicman and maybe a precision... Check out Light Of The Worlds Soho to hear that Musicman sing!! J -

Thanks for the help J -
Hi all, I've been offered a Westone Thunder 2a active from the early 80's, it has a jazz pick up and 2 precisions and plenty of switches! Can anyone tell me about these basses, sound wise ? I play alot of Jazz-Funk and funk, alot of Mark King style slap & fingerstyle - will thbis be any good for that? I use 30-90's normally so I should be able to get a brighter tone, but is the bass any good?? Also, whats it worth?? Any help or sound links would be appreciated, theres nothing on youtube about this bass!! Thanks
Hi there, are you interested in any trades at all? That is one sweet beast!
Hi mate, I'd be after a trade, as long as its a downwards one, I need to raise a few £££ for xmas, otherwise this wouldn't be on here!! Message me for me details J -
It is with a tear in my eye I am offering my Series 1 for sale. Its in wonderful condition, I am the second owner, the first was Doug Whimbish (I bought it off his ex-girlfriend) Its headed, with the graphite truss rods. No wear to the front, a couple of small marks on the back - not buckle rash, I have it far too high on my body for that!! The bass has never been gigged, only used in 1 rehearsal with Britfunker's Light Of The World, who loved the sound, and of course my playing ;O) You don't see these come up for sale too often, and I will add some pics and some links to my videos if wanted. If anyone wants to collect it (has a good quality softcase) I am based near to Newark/Lincoln. I'd rather sell it on here than ebay, as at least you shouldn't get messed around on here!! Price is £650 o/n/o which will include postage (£25) damn fine bass, so just ask!
Yes, the Eclipse was almost seen as a "sport" model in the 90's. They're great basses to play and definitely have "The Status sound" to them Do you have any more detailed pictures?
Theres some more pics on the ebay advert - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Status-Graphite-Ecli...=item3caf05da02 If you would like any more pics, or can recommend other pics I can take, let me know. I'm only selling this to get another Status bass!!
Nice enough looking bass, but a tad ambitious without a graphite neck in this financial climate. Best of luck with the sale
Cheers mate, I paid about the same and then spent another £150 on the set up/dress, so I'm hoping for around this price, its a wonderful bass to play, the best out the 3 status basses I've had...
Do you have some pictures of the bass to put up & a price in mind? That would help your sale no end.
I'll upload some pics today. Nice status collection by the way! I'm not completely sure of what the bass is worth as there were are only about 2-3 of these ever made. I'd like around £500+, but offers are welcome.

Hi all, I'm just about to put my Zoot 4 string active up for sale. Its a prototype made in the early 90's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuLX6gx85TY That was recorded only using a digi cam, so quality isn't that great. Its active (and bolt on neck) and has an amazingly quick neck! I'm only selling due to me having my eye on another bass. I'll try and get some pics uploaded asap. (now done hopefully!) Lovely mother of pearl inlays, superb all round bass, managaed to get it sounding like a status, jaydee and musicman - damn good EMG pick ups!! Any questions, please ask - offers welcome!! Swaps also considered, looking for a slap machine, ie Status, Jaydee, Alembic copy... Or something a bit different that slaps well
