1. Let's see... 1. Squier CV Precision 2. Ibanez ATK 3. Epiphone Allen Woody 4. Epiphone EB-3 1960's model 5. Epiphone EB-0 in Pelham Blue
2. Bought a couple of things from Gear4music over the last few months (EHX Bass Big Muff and a ukelele). Both arrived on time and with no issues. Only ever bought a pickup from Thomann (DiMarzio Model 1) but again, there were no problems at all.
3. I like my Epiphone Allen Woody sig. Wine Red with gold hardware - mmmmmm, nice!
4. That keyboard player definitely needs a wee-wee.
5. After playing one song over and over again because the guitarist keeps mucking up the solo:- Me: "Why don't we skip the solo for now?" Him: "Because the solo is the most important part of the song!"
6. I'm a big fan of Wobble's PiL stuff. His work on First Edition and Metal Box is all the more remarkable when you consider he'd only been playing bass a few months. That's the reason he's sitting down in the early clips - it was the only way he knew how to play! He seems as mad as several boxes of frogs too.
7. I've got some D'Addarrio Chrome Flats on mine and they sound peachy.
8. How's about Jean Jacques Burnel and Jah Wobble?
9. I've just bought one of these. Has anyone got any suggestions on what strings would be best on it?
10. I'm another member of the Chromes fanclub. Got some on my Squier CV Precisiion and I've just put a set on my recently-pimped Epiphone EB-0 and they sound brilliant on both.
11. I would imagine your bass would be worth a bit more than the one in the ebay link by virtue of the fact that the colour of your bass isn't going to make 90% of people want to vomit!
12. Nice tobacco sunburst model at Thomann for just over £500 Click!
13. If I wasn't completely skint, I'd have this like a shot. Have a bump.
14. I agree. If it was an Epiphone, I'd be tempted.
15. A drummer I was playing with once compared my playing on a particular track to Andy Fraser. Given that this drummer was a mardy git who hardly ever complimented anybody and that Andy Fraser is one of my bass gods, it really made my day. I've had a few comments from audience members at gigs how I held certain songs together. But one I remember most of all was overhearing the singer in one of my originals bands telling someone - "Technically, he ain't the best bass player in the world, but what he does is always absolutely spot on. More often than not, his bass lines MAKE the song." That was a while back - I've worked on my technique a bit since then!
16. Sorry, I meant GPR not GPS. Left my brain at home as I don't need it for work!
17. I've just received a Hipshot Supertone I ordered from GPS through their E-bay store and they've done the same with me - valued the goods at $25. Very happy with it. If our own Chancellor can avoid paying tax on his trust fund, I have no qualms about stuffing the VATman. All power to GPS!
18. I don't think the guy who makes Darkstars (Fred Hammon) is in business anymore. They don't come up secondhand very often either so you may have to keep it stock or investigate some alternatives.
19. Are the EMG pickups active or passive?
20. I thought of Bass Parts Resource. Are they reliable? I would go with e-bay but I'd need to sign up to paypal which I'm not keen on. Mind you, I think the missus has an account so maybe she could get it for me? I'll have a think about it. Thanks for the reply.
21. I've got an Epi limited edition 1960's bass in cherry and it's a short scale. It's not a bad bass for the money but it is quite limited in it's sound. It's sounds great playing along to 60's stuff, blues and rock so if that's your bag, why not? I haven't found the neck dive too much of a problem but I'm hoping to stick a Hipshot Supertone on mine which will help with balance. I've also got a Dimarzio Model 1 to replace the neck pickup and I'm going to have series/parallel/single coil switching which seems to be a fairly common mod as it should give ab few more tones to play around with.
22. Hi everyone, Just a quick question - where is the best place to buy a Hipshot Supertone bridge? I'd like to avoid fleabay/paypall if possible. Cheers.
23. I've got an old HH V-S Bassamp combo at home. I used it solidly for years and it never let me down. It's been sitting unloved in the back room for about eight years. I'll have to plug it in and see if it still works. I might try and flog it on here if it does. I reckon I could make all of £5 from it!
24. Thanks for the replies, chaps. The Last Outpost forum has a lot of good information on this sort of thing, very useful.
25. Hi everyone, I'm new here so please be gentle with me! I'm about to embark on modding my Epiphone EB-3 (the limited edition short scale version) and I could do with some advice/tips/opinions. I've ordered a Dimarzio Model One to replace the stock neck humbucker and I'm interested in putting in a coil split so I can use either or both coils to give me more variety of tone. Has anyone ever done this? Is it worthwhile? Looking at the pinned thread on coil tapping at the top of this forum I assume I only need an on-on-on mini switch and wiring to do this (I'm not keen on pull-push knobs)? Daft question - I'm also replacing the pots as they're a bit 'all or nothing' at the moment. However, I can't seem to get the knobs off so I can have a look to see if they are solid or split shaft. I can't see any screws about to suggest they're solid but I've tugged as hard as I dare and I can't get the buggers to shift! Does anyone which would be OK? I assume split shaft but I'd like to be sure before ordering any. Last question (you'll be relieved to hear) is about the bridge pickup. I'm not a huge fan of the stock one. It's too honky and tinny for me. I've looked on the web but I haven't seen any direct replacements out there. I assume any possible replacement would have to be routed. I realise much of the sound of the pickup is due to it's placement right by the bridge but does anyone know of a reasonably priced alternative which will give me more punch and smoother highs? I was thinking off a Darkstar but it's a bit heavy for my pocket and seems overkill for such an inexpensive bass. Perhaps I'll get all the tones I need out of the coil-tapped Dimarzio? By the way, I won't be doing any of this work myself. It'll be going to a luthier. I'm rubbish at anything practical - playing bass included! Well, that's it. You know, I was happy enough leaving my basses stock until I started lurking on here! You guys have opened up quite a new world for me.
