Fellow BC'ers, Can anyone reccommend an amp tech in Manchester who could take a look at my amp- Hartke A100. The volume switch crackles quite badly, it's ok once it's set but it's taking me a while to find a sweet spot where it's stable, apart from that it cuts out or distorts. If anyone nearby thinks they could have a go at fixing it, be my guest! Gemdids

For sale here is my trusty Peavey Basic 60 Combo Amp. On the back it says that it's 50w through 8ohms. This particular one was made in the USA (I think I read somewhere that the American Peavey Amps were better than their Chinese counterparts) The Preamp/Amp section has 2 Inputs, a bright switch, 4 band EQ and Effects loop. Pre and Post Gains. It has a 12" 8ohm speaker. It is very portable and packs out a HUGE sound for it's size. Perfect for gigs and rehearsing, I've never had to whack it up to full power and that's even with a very 'enthusiastic' drummer! Its constructed like a brick and is very solid and reliable. It weighs in at 20kg on my bathroom scales. Used but in good condition, you're welcome to come and try before buying. Pickup from Manchester, Stockport or Bolton. I may be able to deliver locally within Greater Manchester. I'm asking for £50 for this as I'd like a quick sale or have you got something interesting that you want rid of? Anything considered! (This is advertised elsewhere but I'd much prefer to get rid of it via BC) [attachment=86479:basic_60.

I used to use this case for my Dean Stylist but since I got rid of that a while back, it's just been under my bed. Its in good nick, no tears or anything like that and could be used for any bass I guess if you're not too fussed about a perfect fit. Pick up from Didsbury, South Manchester or could meet in Stockport. Here's a link to it in GAK- http://www.gak.co.uk/en/stagg-stb-10-ab-ac...c-bass-bag/6595
another recommendation for the Ashdown EB series. I sold an older model (no compressor) on here before christmas for £100. Used it for ages for gigs and rehearsals
Cheers for the recommendation, just had a quick eBay trawl but only one with a reserve of over a ton, i think BC is always better for reasonably priced gear.
For a touch over £100, I'd recommend an Ashdown Electric Blue. You see them in the FS section here for about £120.00 Like you I often DI straight to PA or use provided backline. The Ashdown has been great for rehearsals, jams and smallish gigs though. Had it 5 years with no problems.
The electric blue's certainly loom good....I'm holding out for dc2009's Laney now, will be pleased if that one comes off

Should be able to pick one up secondhand too for about £100.
Cheers mate, had my eye on one of these a while back. If I can find one for £100 or near enough I'll be happy.
If you can stratch to £170 then the Orange Crush 50w bass combo is superb. I have one both for practice and pub gigs. If you run out of steam, it has a line out to put it through the PA. It also has a built it tuner! You might be able to get one second hand for less. I think mine is great and I have yet to find anything at that price which sounds as good!
I wish I had £170, they are beautiful things. None on eBay second hand, to be honest I'm just looking for something a bit rough and ready, I'll keep my eyes open for one though, cheers for the pointer.
What amp are you using now?
I am currently ampless! I was using an old leech amp and speaker setup which was fine but took up too much room. Prior to that I just used to DI into the mixing desk at gigs or use the in-house backline. I'm just after something sturdy and loud which I can chuck in the boot and not worry about, hence I'm thinking a second hand combo amp. Don't want to spend more than £100, are my expectations unrealistic?

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. Now, just to find an amp that won't break the bank!

I've just had a clear out and am upgrading my equipment, I've recently just bought an Ibanez BTB470 which is the first active bass i've owned. I've always been one of these bassists who seem to aquire equipment when people are having clear outs so consequently I don't know a whole lot about amps. I'm after a combo amp that suited to rehearsals and smaller gigs but I'm wondering, do I need something specific now i'm using an active bass? Apologies if this seems like a daft question but I'm going to play the, 'I'm a girl', card and bat my lashes.

Hello BC'ers.... I got this amp and speaker cab a couple of years ago. Until last year I was regularly using it for gigs and rehearsals and it served me well but since my band parted ways at Christmas, it's just been sat under my bed gathering dust. I'm saying/thinking this is a long shot as I know nothing about the amp. It was passed on to me by a fellow bassist who used it with a bass but I have suspicions that it's primarily a guitar amp (like I said, I know nothing about these things!) The speaker cabinet measures 24x24" wide and high, and 14.5" deep. The head is 20.5" wide, 5.5" high and 11" deep. Controls on the head from left to right go: normal, bright, echo send, return, bass, middle, presence, treble, sustain, distort, injection and foot switch. There is also a switch for studio in/out and clip level on off. It's a bit weather worn as your expect; of note, the black laminate on the back of the head is peeling a bit but nothing some gaffa wouldn't sort. The feet and handles on the head are a rusty but this is just cosmetic. I don't have any spare leads to supply with it but I've plugged it in and just tried it out today with my new Ibanez BTB470 and it worked fine. Honesty policy: With my bass on full, it seemed to be crackling a bit but turning my bass down and the volume pot on the amp up, seemed to sort this out without losing too much in volume. I'm not sure if this was happening because the Ibanez is active? I've only ever played passive basses through it which have always worked fine. Again, this may be because it's meant for guitar? I don't honestly know. I just want rid of it as I'm getting nagged about it taking up too much room. Ideally I'd like to trade it for a smaller combo amp but I'd take £50 for it. I'm based in South Manchester/Stockport and could possibly deliver it locally otherwise it'll need collecting. If anyone wants to come and look at it or try it out, please feel free. Likewise if you'd like more detailed pictures, let me know. This is also listed on ebay....just so you know.
