1.
A very enjoyable programme! Nice one BBC4 The Pink Floyd one that was on the same night was cool too...
Wasn't it brilliant? Really want to sit and enjoy that whole album properly now...
2. Great programme - taped it but ended up watching it anyway and really enjoyed it. Made me want to turn the gain up a bit afterwards, then remembered I don't own a Marshall d'oh.... Cool how a little back room workshop ended up churning out a real cornerstone of rock music. Good work folks!
3. Wow that's beautiful! Good luck with the sale. (i've not long acquired a natural ash Jazz so no more money to spend for the time being!)
4. ah man how did i miss this!? I'd have bitten your arm off for it sir....!
5. Just bought a bass bridge from Tim. Bought on Sunday, arrived on Tuesday. Spot on delivery and great condition. A pleasure to deal with you mate.
6. totally - it happens all the time. I have a mid priced Japanese strat which for years has been my main 'pick up and play' instrument (when I'm not on bass obviously). During much of that time i've had one of two nice Gibson SGs too, but they never bring out my playing in the way that modest little strat does. Part of it i guess is the scale/feel/neck shape, and that the strat is so played in that it feels like a pair of slippers now. Have recently added a jazz bass to my stock, after donkey's years of playing P basses, and there's a difference there too - i think the extra playing position over the bridge pickup opens up new doors there too...
7. There was a big piece on them in Classic Rock a month or two back - took me back to the early 1990s and my first proper band which were big Jellyfish fans!
8.
Looks more or less spot on, very pretty. To check the body take the cover off, bridge will be fitted to far back with extra long G string adjuster. I think they fixed this in about 73/74 Neck looks good but as others have said you need to take it off to be sure and dont worry if there are no markings I've seen several which are bare including my own 71 which is a real thumper!
I agree - it looks kosher - i have a 1969/70ish P bass and the sunburst is exactly the same as this one - i mean exactly the same, as in the same person could have done it! Mine also has the long G string screw on the bridge, but i don't know exactly when that was phased out. My neck pocket markings are there, but are unclear and not really very conclusive in themselves, but you may have more joy. But as other people have pointed out, check the various component codes to be 100 per cent sure. Good luck either way - if its genuine and you like it, then you've got yourself a great bass!
9. yup - just to confirm that is my MIA P bass it was fitted to, without any problem - holes in the right places etc!
10. Hi Ryan - i don't suppose you still happen to have the original bridge for sale do you? I'm desperately looking for one...
11. Surely Oasis's 15 minutes of fame must be up by now?
12. I went to see Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, Roxy Music) doing a stand-up gig a few years back, and afterwards me and my missus spotted him sitting alone in the bar, so we went over to chat. He was great - we had a few more drinks and chatted for ages. He signed my "My Bass and Other Animals" book and got another for my missus. He was really sound, and good company. I had a shocking hangover in work the next day but for a perfectly good reason i reckon. I also met Steve Harris once at the Rotosound stand in a music show in London, and queued for him to sign a flyer for me. Sadly I was too starstruck to say anything when it got to my turn! D'oh.
13. Caught them in Leicester two weeks ago - the dog's b...cks! Really impressed.
14. Astonishing isn't it? Fair play to that man - what an extraordinary story. I only hope that he's correct and the cancer doesn't return etc. As for now it's certainly an outcome none of us expected. Amazing!
15. My main basses are both USA Fenders - a jazz and a P bass. I've put each of them in for a pro set up at some stage, but have always ended up cranking the action up a good bit afterwards - i play quite heavy handedly, and although very low action is lovely, i prefer a bit of room to lay into it live without the notes choking out. They're both strung with Rotosound 40-100 Swing Bass round wounds. I've been using these as long as I can remember so they just feel comfortable, although a heavier low E would be good for the couple of songs where i tune to D. Flatwounds can almost always allow you to get away with a lower action though, as theres not the round binding to clank against the frets, and their stiffer so move less anyway. any help to you?
16. Good band - saw them a a few years back at a festival where i'd just wandered into their gig and BAM! They were frighteningly loud! Good stuff tho. Shame they're calling it a day.
17. Huge Hands - yep it was Pete Ray Biggin on the drums - he was blinding! I gotta confess i spent more time looking at him than watching Mark King - my mate who isn't even a musician of any sort was just blown away by that drummer and how he commanded the whole band in and out of songs. Just a great great drummer. A couple of other pro session drummers i know were there too and ended up chatting backstage with him after the show - by all accounts a top bloke too! Flat Eric - good work sir! Wasn't it a great night? Need more nights out like that.
18. sorry to hear about your health problems fella - hopefully giving the bass a rest will help those wrists recover a bit. But definitely keep hold of one bass - i didn't play for a number of years between one thing or another and only had one bass stashed - but things changed and now i'm really glad i kept it. most importantly tho, get well!
19. For what its worth, my oldish Schroeder 1210 appears to have two Eminence speakers inside, which are pretty readily available from places in UK like Blue Aran etc. I don't know if they're the originals, but they have the Schroeder signature on the 12" speaker cone, and they sound brilliant. Schroeder cabs are immense, so a good purchase for anyone who fancies a fairly simple fix.
20. Well, that it's sort of been hijacked as a Children In Need song rather than being an unusual tune you don't normally hear a solo acoustic player tackling...
21. Yeah man - it was a real bonus night out! Was due a good live gig too and that definitely ticked the box!
22. My mate has just spent ages learning this for his solo acoustic set, with all the proper complex chords and everything, only to be ambushed by this. To say he's miffed doesn't really cover it....!
