  1. Midway thru rejigging my pedalboard for acoustic guitar and realising that while some pedals adhere nicely to Velcro strips or dual lock, some (seem to be mainly the budget mini pedals like Mooer, Landlord etc) won’t stay stuck at all. The rubber bottom seems to resist anything, even gaffer tape. What’s that all about, and any suggestions to get around it? I was going to create a base from gaffer or electrical tape attached to the pedal’s metal sides and extending underneath it if all else fails. Hmm.
  2. These are ace. I have one as the hub of all things practice-related in my house. The Bluetooth feature that these have over the ID:Core is brilliant for playing along to stuff on YouTube etc (since iPhones don’t have headphone sockets these days.) I love mine. One of the most useful things I own.
  3. Really nice gig bags these. I’ve already got more cases than basses or I’d happily have it off you too. GLWTS
  4. Bump for a hell of a lot of bass amp, refitted with an Evo IV preamp, for mere pocket money.
  5. Dua Lipa - Don’t Start Now Moloko - The Time Is Now Portugal the Man - Feel It Still Chemical Brothers - In Dust We Trust Stevie Wonder - Sir Duke Ian Dury - Rhythm Stick Must be loads of others over the years but they’re all ones that have made me sit up and go “ooh hello - what’s going on there then?”
  6. Thanks @DGBass - that’s really helpful to share its history. Good to know it’s been used and enjoyed as a solid, reliable amp too!
  7. Ah nice one! That’s cool and definitely worth knowing. Much appreciated 👍
  8. Best gaffer taped to the stage too - I found this to my cost at outdoor dep gig when my cheat sheet blew away during the first song.
  9. I don’t mind using a music stand for prompts when I’m singing - I don’t need words for every song, but a few sketched notes needed for some (off to one side rather than bang in front of me). What did annoy me was the frontman of a band I used to play with who had all the lyrics on an iPad and would stop between every song to scroll through to different songs (they weren’t arranged in a set list or anything for easy access). It was very effective at killing any momentum there might have been and emptying the dance floor in one fell swoop. I’d have rather just busked it and fluffed the words!
  10. Set ups, action, truss rod, intonation and soldering - yep all good. Nuts and saddles - with care (I’m thinking acoustic guitar bone saddles) Fret work - nope. That’s one for the professionals.
  11. For many years I only owned one giggable bass, and one of the biggest gigs I’ve done was a festival in Poland where I could only take one bass. Just made sure it was a reliable one. Jury’s out on local pub gigs tho. I’ve never needed a back up in 30+ years of gigging but I habitually take two amp heads and two basses whenever I can. Last few gigs I’ve tempted fate and taken just one of everything, and tried not to let it freak me out too much!
  12. Ashdown ABM 500 Evo III amp head, now sold thanks
  13. Yeah I keep hearing that every couple of years and I’m never sure what the story is. I think it’s closed and reopened in the past. It would be a shame tho as it’s one of the few proper live music venues around here.
  14. Just played a gig for my guitarist’s 50th birthday party at the Donkey in Leicester. Plenty of family and friends seemed to have braved the biblical rain and thunder to come along. Gig included various guest slots etc from other local musicians and friends etc. I took my usual Yamaha BB604, pair of Markbass traveller cabs and took along the Ashdown ABM500 I picked up on here a few months ago. I’ve realised the Ashdown isn’t for me after all. Its textured, deep, pillowy sound doesn’t suit my playing style or my onstage sound as well as my Markbass head. It sounded good, but just not my thing (so expect to see it back up for sale on here in due course!) Oh yes and there was birthday cake too, obviously. So all good.
  15. First good bass was a MIJ Westone Spectrum which was also my first gigging bass back in 1987-1990. I’d be curious to play it again and see how it stands up to the other basses since. A couple of basses later came my 1970 sunburst Precision which I still have. That was my first really good bass. A Peerless-built Epiphone Jack Casady was my first and only hollow-bodied bass which I bought to scratch an itch in 2016 or so and sold a few years later. And my recently-sold MIJ Fender mustang was my first and so far only short scale bass. I’d happily take back that Westone, the Epiphone and the Mustang, tho saying that I haven’t missed any of them enough to replace. Update - the running total I think is that I’ve owned 31 basses over 38 years of playing.
  16. Just back home from playing a great gig at the Anchor in Burbage, Leicestershire, depping with function band Superbad. Looked like a regular village pub, but it seemed to be THE place to go on a Saturday night round these parts. Place was rammed, with a wide range of ages too. Travelled light, using just one bass (Yamaha BB604), a Markbass head and two MB traveller cabs (tho it occurred to me afterwards that my Ashdown head is the exact same size as my pedal board, so I could have taken that and plonked the pedals on top.) Next time maybe. Resisted the urge to stop off for a McDonalds on the way home. Got home to find leftovers of a Chinese takeaway in the fridge instead - jackpot!
  17. Yup I started doing this a few years ago, including instruments, amps, pedals, accessories, cases, the lot. Can’t remember why I started doing it, but over about 10 years now it’s grown to include the bands I’ve been in, notable gigs, any releases I appear on and random facts and figures about further / largest / best paid / worst paid gigs etc. It’s quite interesting looking back over 38 years of playing, but I’ve only got through about 30 basses, 20 or so amps and a handful of acoustic guitars. Over the last few months I’ve begun boiling it down to the bare minimum that I need, so I’m sure there are much more impressive lists out there.
  18. This is the very cab in use a couple of weekends ago. Sounded righteous too….
  19. The trick is remembering any good ideas you did come up with…
  20. Welcome aboard. Was listening to Thunder and Consolation just the other day really loud in the car and enjoying the bass and drums on that. Jeremy Leveller is also very cool on bass!
  21. Hi all, I’ve got two of these great cabs but only really need one (can’t fit both in my car at the same time, much as I’d like to). It’s an Italian-built Markbass Standard 102HF cabinet. It’s a 400w, front-ported 8ohm bass cabinet. I’ve gigged it extensively over the last three years or so (paired with an TRV102P cab which I find to be a lovely combination) and it’s been 100% reliable. Some of the fur is a bit bobbly but no rips, tears or anything beyond what you’d expect from a cab thats been the mainstay of my rig. All works perfectly with no crackles or weird noises. I contacted Markbass some time ago and they reckon its a 2006 model judging from serial number. It’s well cared for, comes with a clean, tidy fitted Roqsolid cover, and has been stored in my smoke-free home. Collection from south Leicestershire or meet-up on this given the size and weight. Price dropped to £250. Any questions drop me a line.
  22. The mix in the opening tune - Message in a Bottle - sounded ropey on my telly but it got better soon after. I was only half watching it at first but got into it. Good work that man.
  23. Hi all, SOLD Im selling this very nice padded double shoulder strap, which is made in Brazil by a company called Evo straps. It’s beautifully made of soft, padded leather and fully adjustable to get a snug fit which distributes the weight of heavier basses onto both shoulders, and seems to also do a decent job of countering neck dive on my own sub-4kg bass. Tried to model it as best I can for these lovely pics. I bought it in 2021 but have never used it except around the house so it’s clean and fantastic condition. I had a shoulder and neck injury at the time but ended up just getting a lighter bass instead. Looking for £40 including UK postage. Shout if any questions. Nice one
