I picked up Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers” album a few months ago but only got round to listening on a long drive from the Midlands to Wales last month. It blew my mind. Brilliant stuff.

Detroit Rock City will be my undoing.

Gene was one of my first influences when I started playing. His bass lines were cool but largely simple enough to try my hand at. -
Not bassists, but Iggy Pop and The Cure’s Robert Smith.

I’ve had a few relatively budget (ie sub £500) instruments and none of them have had major problems like that. Most need a set up and a fret dress in fairness - cutting the nut correctly also seems to be where cheap instruments fall down. But I tend to factor that work into the cost anyway.

Good luck fella and get well soon.

Bush, who were dreadful Nirvana-lite from the mid 1990s, but nowhere near as original. -
Yeah I remember trying them a long while ago when I was using a big heavy Aguilar 4x10, and preferring my Aguilar. But that’s long gone as it was too heavy to drag around. For what I do (mostly city centre gigs with rubbish parking, and a whole range of dep bass jobs) there’s not much wrong with Markbass stuff.

This Markbass rig I’ve pulled together over the last couple of months. Traveller 102P and STD 104HF cabs (both Italian) and a Little Mark 2 head I’ve had for a while. Ive made the bookshelves buzz here but will have to wait until end of the month to christen at an outdoor pub gig. Until then it’s just pretty furniture.

Clearing out my parts drawer and offloading a load of strings, some of which have only been used very briefly: La Bella 760FL flatwounds - a couple of days home use at most. Some very minor fraying on red silks but in great clean condition. Cut for a four in line top loading bridge - SOLD D’Addario EXL170-5 - from my brief dalliance with five string playing earlier this year. Used them for about three weeks at home and the swapped for Chromes, so in very good clean condition. (I’ll also throw in for free the identical set I took off the bass when it arrived - bit more used condition but handy spares.) Both generously cut for a 3+2 Yamaha headstock. Price changed to £15 posted. 2 x sets of Rotosound Swing Bass - pretty certain these are 45-105 gauge tho small chance they could be 40-100. Again some signs of use but good condition. Cut for a four in a line headstock and top loading bridge. £7 a pack posted or £10 for the pair. Single D’Addario EXL170BT low E string gauge 107 - I’ve never even used this and can’t remember why I bought it. Still in its packet. £5 posted. GONE to a good home Light-gauge set of short scale round wounds. Pics below - shout if any questions.

Dogs don’t like slap bass because they have no thumbs. It’s sour grapes more than musical differences.

“Needs new parts and a shave“ wtf?

Dream basses that left you disappointed

A Mike Lull PJ4. I really wanted a lighter bass than the hefty USA Jazz and Precision I had, and had been lusting after one for ages. I traded in those two good basses and about £900 on top to get the Lull. After a couple of gigs I realised I just didn’t like much about how it sounded or played, but for 10 times the price of the Yamaha I was also playing at a the time. Completely underwhelmed. Sold the Lull at a big loss. Still have the Yamaha. Lesson learned. -

I’ve got a mic that used to belong to Saxon. Makes me sing in a Yorkshire accent tho.

Just taken delivery of a guitar multi stand from Latif. Everything as described and arrived really quickly. Top man. Can’t fault anything at all.

Derbyshire I’m told, but I can’t say I’m familiar with it either... makes me think it might be the closest I get to going on hols this year though.
