    I've owned a 1970 Fender Precision for the last 27 years. It's a working, gigging instrument that looks its age but has been well cared for. Does it play nicely, feel good and look cool? Yes it does, and I love it. Would I go out of my way to buy another one? Not really, given the cost nowadays. It is very good, and it's a vintage bass, but I wouldn't say it's automatically good just because it's a vintage bass, or that other, newer, basses aren't equally good in their own way.

    I remember pretty clearly most of the TOTP stuff from 1990. It wasn’t the sort of thing I was listening to by choice but was the soundtrack to many of our teenage drunken evenings up the local park causing mischief...

    Sold my Yamaha TRBX505 to Lawrie - paid promptly, good comms and no probs. Glad it’s gone to a good home. A pleasure to deal with.

    I’ve got to the stage where I’m really happy with my main gear, and unless I sell any of it (which I won’t) I can’t afford anything more of the same quality. So I’m stumped really. Lockdown has made me realise I’ve got all the gear I’ll ever realistically need, as a semi-pro player with a day job and family and with my fifties lurking on the not too distant horizon. On a positive note it’s taken the anxiety out of the whole process now I appreciate what I’ve got, rather than worrying about what I haven’t.

    Same here - our local Hermes reps have been both really sound. One of them told me that they even thought Hermes was rubbish, which was great. That was around the time they claim to have delivered a Tonehammer pedal to me, but actually didn’t bother and sent it back to Scotland instead. Awesome service.

    Hello all, I bought this on Basschat just before Christmas as an attempt to acquaint myself with five-string playing. Alas, I’ve decided it’s not for me after 35 years playing four strings. Old dogs, new tricks etc. Its a Yamaha TRBX505, mahogany body, maple / mahogany five-piece neck, 34” scale with 18mm string spacing, and a 43mm nut. Weighs 3.9kg on my digital luggage scales. It’s active with three band EQ, master volume and pick up blend, plus a switch to move between passive and active mode. It had a professional set up and fret dress in December, plus the original plastic nut was replaced in February with a much better quality bone nut by my go-to local luthier. Other than that it’s in much the same condition as when I bought it - a few small superficial dings on the body edges, and a couple of shallow marks on the back of the neck, but nothing that affects playing at all. I’ve tried to show them in the pics. Thanks to lockdown, I’ve only played it at home so far pottering about in my front room. Its wearing D’Addario Chromes in the photos but I’ll restring it back to the brand new D’Addario nickel roundwounds that I bought for it originally (45-130 off the top of my head but I’ll check the pack) They’ve literally had a few hours playing time. Comes with a clean basic padded gigbag too. I think £295 posted or £275 collected is reasonable. Happy to do local socially-distanced meet up as long as it’s not breaking any lockdown restrictions.     Sounds like a short scale with flats on maybe - a really woody hollow thunk. Its great. EDIT - the video shows something else tho, so ignore me....

    Excellent bit of kit. I use mine all the time and the playback sound for MP3s etc is brilliant.

    Ahh - yes sorry I'm with you now. I understand. If i'm re-using strings on that have already been on before, and therefore are already curled up at the headstock end, i try to keep the length of them slack so they can rotate freely in the bridge holes right up until they get tightened up, for that reason.

    Daft question alert - but how do you wind the strings then? I've always wound them by hand. Am i doing it wrong?

    My bass set up (excuse the guitar amp in shot). There’s also a Schroeder 1210 under the guitar amp too that needs a bit of TLC so it’s parked up at the moment. Would just like a chance to use some of it live soon really.

    I’m in the audience at the Stereophonics live at Morfa Stadium gig DVD from 1999, along with about 50,000 other people. Top day out and just round the corner from my mum’s house.
