Derbyshire I’m told, but I can’t say I’m familiar with it either... makes me think it might be the closest I get to going on hols this year though.

I’ve yet to gig mine (only got it two weeks ago) but I suspect it’ll be enough for most of my pub gigs and the prospect of such an easy load in fills me with joy!

I’m digging my Markbass 102p (400w at 8ohms and weighing about 14kg). I know it’s not as cool or boutique as Barefaced but for me it’s more conventional sounding and affordable.

Another vote for the Markbass Traveller 102P which I’ve recently acquired. Effortlessly portable and really punchy and loud for its size. I picked up a Genz Benz Neo 2x12 last year so it hasn’t seen much action yet, and while not super lightweight it’s still around the 20kg mark which is peanuts compared to what I used to lug round.

Had a JC and loved it. But they are fully hollow rather than semi hollow. Great range of sounds, from almost acoustic bass to full-on growl, and much more versatile than might first appear. Big chunky neck, hollow body and big headstock meant mine had serious neck dive which a thick suede strap did reduce somewhat. Only sold it to fund another bass and frequently find myself wishing I hadn’t.

I had an Ashdown Klystron head and 8x10 at one point. It sounded awesome but the thought of transporting it to gigs made me weep. People coming home from the pub past my house used to offer to help me struggling up the stairs to my front door. I sold it for an Aguilar GS410, which also sounded lovely but weighed about 45kg as well. Ive ended up with a Genz Benz neo cab and some Markbass heads and cabs. It’s what I can be bothered to drag around these days.

Just popped round to buy Tim’s Markbass 102p cab. Had a good natter about all things bass related and came home with a lovely cab, great condition and all easily done. Much appreciated mate!

I had a live video from 1984 called “Does Humour Belong in Music?” and Scott Thunes is playing bass on that, looking delighted to be there!

I usually take just one bass for most pub gigs. One of the bands I play with involves two basses for different tunings, and they double up as each other’s spares. I last broke a bass string in about 2006 onstage, which prompted a long intro and some banter from the singer while I replaced it. No big deal.

1985 was right at the start of me getting properly into music and a year before I started learning bass. But thanks to my older brother I became very well acquainted with: Iron Maiden - Live After Death Scorpions - Worldwide Live Motley Crue - Theatre of Pain Asia - Astra WASP - The Last Command Kiss - Asylum AC/DC - Fly on the Wall Maiden, Kiss and AC/DC in particular became the core of what I was into as a teenager.

I can vouch for the Fender Mustangs being good versatile short scales.

I remember seeing Adrian live with the ASAP donkeys years ago and really liking it. I’ll def check out this new album.

I was out with my nine year old lad last week. Walking past one of his school friends houses I spied a Fender bass headstock of some sort in the living room. The family walk past our house to the park most days so I got chatting to the dad who it turns out is the bassist. He’s been using lockdown to get properly into it while his daughter is learning guitar. Used his time a bit more wisely than me then.
