Top tune and lovely bass part

Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.

We half thought the same but nope it’s a young Welsh fella with a telecaster who plays rockabilly like a man possessed. We even got offered tea and lemon drizzle cake when we got to the venue to set up. Proper rock n roll that. Tis a good bass. Light as a feather, with quite a faded burst now and buckle rash thru to the bare wood at the back. -

Ah this is the beginner’s model which they kept simple... -

Me onstage back in January with my originals band, opening for the James Oliver Band (demon Welsh guitarist and all round top bloke). Apologies to those repulsed by sunburst and tort.... -
Yeah you must have heard the tune of Sir Duke among the way. Fantastic tune to play!

Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel. I know there’s an octave effect in there somewhere. I was learning it for a gig but obviously the pressure is off a bit now ha ha! I keep dipping in and out of Rhythm Stick and Sir Duke too, just for the joy of learning how to play them properly.

It’s that count of 10 for the middle breakdown that throws dep drummers. Lost count of the number of times I’ve told them to trust me on the 10, counting it out loud to cue them, and watching the panic in their eyes as they just can’t resist counting to 12 before coming back in. What the hell happened there?

I had about 15 gigs in diary between now and the end of August and I’m not assuming any will go ahead. Morally I wouldn’t want them to either. Sooner we all contribute to sorting this, the sooner things get back to normal. Ive just taken a new booking for late September which I’ll hopefully be able to do. Much of my bass work is depping which depends on the other persons unavailability - if those gigs get postponed and rescheduled there’s no guarantee I’ll still be needed next time.

It’s a long term practice song for me to work on but I’ve never even considered the possibility of playing it live yet! It’s a handful

ELO’s Mr Blue Sky is a bit of a handful. Lots of odd bits of a bass and a savage run of fast walking bass right in the middle - if you get lost you stay lost. Always relieved when we’ve got that out of the way in a set. Too Much Too Young by the Specials is also one that takes a good bit of concentration live.

Coronavirus-best bass guitar if you were self isolating
bassbiscuits replied to SH73's topic in General Discussion
Presumably I’d be isolated in my own house tho, where all my instruments already are....? Or am I missing something. -
Exactly this ^^^^

Mate that’s really harsh. Sorry to hear that.

The problem is that the government has stopped short of actually banning people going to pubs, theatres etc - they have just told people they shouldn’t do it. That leaves the venue/promoter to take responsibility for cancelling any events and leaves them vulnerable to paying out any refunds etc, rather the venue being able to say they are following the government’s directions. Thats my understanding of it.

I’ve just been told our appearance at a blues rock festival next weekend has been cancelled, which I was half expecting to be honest. I was hoping my side project of solo acoustic guitar gigs might slip under the radar (no one could ever consider them a mass gathering...) but if people are being advised not to go to pubs then that’s scuppered as well. I’ll remain prepared to do them if required but I’m waiting for the cancellation calls to start coming in. Strange times indeed. For the first time in along time I feel fortunate to have my desk job to fall back on.

Stuff you bought and never used (but still have it)

They're very decent pickups though. -

A Line 6 Bass Pod. I used a friend's one for some recording, loved it, and bought one. It's been in the drawer ever since. Might post it up for sale here. Also a Zoom H4n recording thingy. Impenetrable manual stopped me in my tracks, and it's now next to the Bass Pod in my parts drawer. -
I love being up and about during the small hours when no one else is around, and seeing the night time world come to life.

Mine was a 40th birthday party of someone the singer knows. Decent gig, tho the inevitable “drunk people dancing and falling over into the singer and breaking his mic stand” scenario by the end of it. Its all tuned down a half step, which I’m realising doesn’t sound too good on a short scale mustang so I used my spare Yamaha all night instead which was far more feisty. It was my second gig with my recently acquired BF Big Twin 2 cab, which sounds very different from my regular Schroeder, so I was quite preoccupied by trying to listen carefully to my sound to be honest. Had a cool drive home thru the countryside tho, spotting various barn owls and rabbits dashing about.

So, just how many basses do you own ????

I’m already well into the realms is stashing things wherever I can anywhere in the house or beyond under the guise of lending stuff to mates -

I suspect some people on here have a bigger spare room than I have. -

A mere three - a MIJ Mustang, a P bass, and a Yamaha BB bass for everything else. Any more makes me feel indulgent, and any fewer makes me feel vulnerable. I've tinkered with a five string recently but our love affair didn't last. -
I saw Coldplay at Aberavon Leisure Centre in Port Talbot, South Wales, just around the time of their second album. It was a small sports hall packed the rafters with people and stank of weed. I also narrowly missed the Stereophonics playing at our university ball in about 1994 or 95 - I queued to get in and managed it just after they'd finished. The bar then ran out of booze too. Poor effort all round. I am somewhere in the crowd on the Stereophonics' Performance and Cocktails live DVD at Morfa Stadium in 1999 tho!
