  1. Julie's husband...
  2. Feed every AC/DC song into an AI bot and see what the result is? Why not eh. Sounds mostly like For Those About To Rock, but the lyrics are just a jumble. The opening riff is cool tho! https://loudwire.com/artificial-intelligence-bot-writes-ac-dc-song-great-balls/
  3. He must be absolutely massive for that T bird to be so small on him!
  4. Likewise. Love over Gold and Brothers in Arms were big albums when I was starting out playing and I’ve always loved them, but kept quiet about it. Ive played with a couple of cool musos over the last couple of years who openly love Dire Straits and I’m now not ashamed to admit I like them. Knopfler’s guitar playing rules.
  5. Great curtains! Ikeas finest. I’ve got the matching cushions.
  6. I can vouch for the GS410 being an incredible cab. Used one for 10 years and it’s still the best bass sound I’ve had, but far too heavy for me.
  7. It’s just a very weird key for me to sing - ie pretty low. We’d been doing it for years with me doing backing vocals and the whole middle section so I thought it would be plain sailing to do the rest of the song when it was suddenly needed. Didn’t suit my voice at all.
  8. If it wasn’t for the pandemic and lack of spare cash I’d hang on to it myself!
  9. Hello all, I’m moving on this Barefaced Big Twin 2 (Gen 3) that I only bought back in February from fellow BC’er 28mistertee. (I originally put it up for sale earlier during lockdown, but withdrew it thinking I’d need it - alas with no gigs on the cards I’ll be perfectly ok with my other existing kit, so.....) It’s a superb cab in fantastic condition, and I’ve done two gigs on it so far! Here it is in action in a blues gig with Ian Parker in February. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJHp5U4SXJo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KS48r68Khc These are brilliant cabs, the flagship of the Barefaced range, incredibly lightweight and powerful. I bought it as the best power / size / weight ratio I could find. It’s a 2x12 plus horn, with full details on the Barefaced website here: https://barefacedbass.com/product-range/Big-Twin-2.htm Its in very, very good condition and comes with a fitted Roqsolid cover. There is one very small ding in the bottom front edge which you’d have to look for to find - 28mistertee even provided me with two small pots of black touch-up paint supplied by Barefaced HQ that neither he nor me has bothered to use. I’ve tried to show this in a close up pic. Im looking to get back what I paid which was £775 (I can’t change the thread title price from £800 for some reason). Now, given it’s size I would much prefer collection from Leicester or meet up somewhere reasonably local, observing social distancing measures. With immaculate timing, Leicester is currently in an extended lockdown which means any collection / meet up would have to be after July 18, the date it is due to end. I’m hesitant to post this at present. Any questions, drop me a PM. NOW SOLD
  10. Whoa that’s quite something isn’t it! First time I’ve ever heard both versions. Mad innit.
  11. I’m quite partial to a pearl white plate. Bruce Foxton’s bass looks great.
  12. I started growing a fledgling beard during lockdown but it became pretty obvious that my mum’s auburn hair gene had manifested itself as a ginger and grey beard. It was quite a mismatch with my almost black head hair, plus I couldn’t stop licking the moustache the whole time, so off it came.
  13. I’ve utterly failed this year, buying equipment for gigs that aren’t now happening. My restraint has so far permitted purchasing a Barefaced Big Twin 2, a Genz Benz Neo 2x12 and a Boss Octave pedal. I’ll get my coat.
  14. Kiss - Alive II. Double album (3/4 of it live), the gatefold sleeve, the live pics, the band at their peak in 1977. Prime time Kiss in a nutshell. Try Double Platinum for a double studio compilation from same era. Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic or Rocks from band’s 1970s stint, or Pump from their 1980s/90s phase. Iron Maiden - Live After Death (album or DVD). All you need.
  15. Another thumbs up for electronic luggage scales. Not just for trying to ensure my suitcase comes in under the limit when bringing booze back from hols.
  16. Thanks for the knowledge of stuff I never even new existed, but then realised I really really needed anyway. And for all the good kit I've bought and sold along the way. And the cakes at the bass bashes Well done us!
  17. Seriously - buy something mainstream and midpriced, which will be perfectly good enough for you to get started on and give you years of playing. Don’t get bogged down in custom builds or boutique stuff at this stage. There’s no ‘one true bass’ that everyone will like, so try some out if at all possible. I’ve had enough instruments over the years which people have sworn are brilliant but which I’ve absolutely hated, (and vice versa). In reality I’d say most jobbing bass players out there (including myself) use very mainstream, regular, mass produced stuff very happily. Its only worth forking out for boutique high end stuff if you can really appreciate the difference. As a beginner it’s just not worth getting into that. Good luck tho - there are plenty of good basses out there.
  18. I wouldn't say short scales have more low end - the opposite is true in my experience (using a Fender Mustang and a Fender P). The Mustang feels more midrangy and aggressive, but the P wins in terms of overall poke and bigger bottom end. There's more of it, so the sound is slightly fuller. It's not drastically different, but its noticeable. They both sound cool tho.
  19. Pub gigs are the bread and butter of my work. Function gigs are better paid and dare I say more refined, but a good pub gig is where all the fun is at. Plus they’re an evening out with your mates, unlike most functions which feel more like “work”.
  20. The key to pub gigs for me is travelling light. As others have said you don’t need tonnes of gear. Sounds like you have a decent amp head and cab and that’ll be plenty for most gigs. I hardly ever go thru the PA and I’m a loud player. I use a 500w Markbass head and I’ve never run out of power at a small or medium sized gig. Pubs are often in city centres etc with difficult parking, poor load ins etc so bear that in mind. Keep it simple, travel light and just enjoy yourself.
  21. Ive got kids so mine live in gig bags or cases standing up in an alcove when not in use. EDIT - the basses that is, not the children.
