  1. Have just come back from watching Ginger Wildheart playing at the Y Theatre in Leicester. Brilliant as ever - great mix of genuine warmth, witty banter and openness about his mental health problems. And a knack for writing absolutely cracking songs. Glad I made the effort to go.
  2. Bonjour Monsieur Geserarien, et bienvenue a Basschat.
  3. Tricky. I suppose my number one bass in terms of the one I've had longest, which means most sentimentally etc is my old precision, and I don't want to swap that for anything. The bass I rely on most though is a Yamaha BB604, which isn't worth much, and therefore I also wouldn't swap as for the same price I doubt I'd find anything I prefer. So for different reasons, I'd say stick.
  4. Only used to be? World wide live was one of the first albums that got me into music back in the mid 1980s. Still sounds great!
  5. Nice one - I've heard lots of good things about these and quite fancy them myself (I've got a shortscale Fender Mustang Bass).
  6. Greetings from another Midlander (well Leicester anyway).
  7. Hello Lololita, and welcome. Good to see you have the awesome Matthias Jabs as your profile pic too!
  8. Worth adding that they are both really good variations on the same theme. Just depends which particular features the buyer is particularly looking for.
  9. I'd imagine it differs as follows: 63 reissue probably has vintage frets, 7.25" radius fretboard, big vintage-style tuners, a simpler vintage bridge, probably vintage-spec pickups and possibly a nitro paint job. 2014 USA will have medium jumbo frets, 9.5" radius fretboad, the modern tuners, high-mass bridge, and poly-based paint job. I can't tell from the pics, but the 62 might have a wider nut than the 2014, whereas the USA might have a slightly narrower nut, but chunkier neck than the 62 (purely on my experience of USA Standard Fenders v vintage ones) So not that similar, other than them both being Fender Precision basses. I guess it depend what your buyer is after.
  10. Great bass. I played one at a bass bash and was surprised how versatile they were. Looks cool too!
  11. Sid took a gig bag off me and was happy to pay postage to get it there in time for a gig. Good guy to deal with, good comms and easy transaction throughout.
  12. Probably would have gone with drums rather than bass, tho bass has worked out well and is where I feel at home. I didn't have the space or money for drums when I started. Stupidly I was also put off by the thought of having all that stuff to lug around. Being a bassist just meant I had space left in the car and ended up lugging everyone else's stuff around instead. Missed a trick there
  13. Tokais also have a glued in neck, not a bolt on. And a different bridge.
  14. Just got some bass strings from Steve - arrived promptly. Easy transaction.
  15. For me as a 12-year-old metal fan back in 1986, it was Steve Harris and Gene Simmons at first, followed by Duff McKagan, and Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith. Started off playing finger-style (thanks to watching Maiden videos) but then got into using a pick too thanks to Kiss and G'n'R. Still use both, and still trying to be as cool as any of them....
  16. Police - Message in a Bottle (the drumming alone makes me want to listen to it continually) Karine Polwart - Daisy (or indeed anything of the album Scribbled in Chalk) BT - Divinity (mid 90s ambient dance track that goes on a right old journey during its 10 mins). I'm sure there's more....
  17. Ah yeah Kate Rusby is great. Saw her live a few years ago and loved it.
  18. When the Squier Classic Vibes series came out about 10-12 years ago i went into a shop in Bury St Edmunds to try one out - a white jazz. It was pretty good. But then I picked up a USA jazz they had in store, in the same white/rosewood/tort colour scheme... It just sang. It was lovely, and it ruined the idea of getting the Squier. I didn't have the money for the USA, so I left with neither. I also tried out a Gibson SG Classic (with lovely slim neck, P90s etc) in a shop about five years ago and I immediately fell in love. Lightweight, snarly and bright. Again, wasn't in the position to buy and had nothing to sell, but went back a few more times to try it again, until someone bought it. A year or so later I finally bought one, but it wasn't the same, and it didn't last long. Bummer.
  19. Just take a DI feed out of either amp surely?
  20. 1. Believing that buying stupidly expensive gear would make me play better. 2. Buying amps/cabs that sound great but are too big to carry. 3. Taking over 20 years to figure out 1&2....
  21. Cher - Believe Oasis - Wonderwall Bonnie Tyler - I Need A Hero All dreadful songs I never want to hear again, and wish hadn't existed in the first place.
