1. So the time has come to replace my home-made b*st*rd fretless. Current model was a five string Westfield, which I defretted with a JCB and lost the saddle on the lowest string so it plays as a four now. Large gap up top of fretboard lol It has served me well, but Id like something a bit nicer. Im looking for a 4, I have a preference for slim necks, my current bands output requires that the fretboard has a 2 octave span. (yes I know I could do away with that by having a C string on a fiver but Id like to stick with 4 strings for now) Ive narrowed it down to 2 so far, the Ibanez SR700 Portamento and the Spectorcore fretless 4 that Bass Direct had in red maple sunburst. Neither of which Ive tried, tho I may have chance tomorrow to noodle on an Ibanez. Anyone tried either of those basses can offer some pros and cons? Or offer up any alternative suggestions? thanks
2. Hi Monckyman, maybe a daft question but how are the necks on these please? wide? thin? shallow or deep
3. My fave ST album is Join the Army but not sure if Robert played on that
4. Industrial noisemakers Whitehouse aren't industrial noisemakers at all. A blown circuit board in the engineers desk meant there first album, which was years in the writing and months in the making turned out like so much white noise. Angered by this, they decreed that all their recorded output should be thus. In German.
5.
Wait until you see the warts I'm genetically engineering in my [s]garden shed[/s] laboratory.
Just cut rice Krispies in half and superglue them on
6. The artist formerly known as Prince is well known to be a little vertically challenged. A friend of Snow White, if you will. Anyways, truth is, and you can tell if you look really closely, he sold his lower legs from the knee down to fund his way through college
7. the rapper Ice T is of course the b&st&rd child of Booker T and Vanilla Ice
8. yip. Have you not heard his rendition of Cone-caine? White room was written about a particularly harrowing episode when his Mr whippy machine exploded, splattering its contents just about everywhere
9. Expressive art hairdos Milli Vanilli now rather ironically run a small kiosk on the sea front at Margate selling candy floss
10. 3hr rehearsals? pftt lightweight nice jazzer Moo, if I had the dosh Id have it, sadly not tho glws
11. was toying with buying that myself. As said above, not usually a fan of headless basses but that really is a cracking looking bass. Nice one fella
12. I have my beady eye on one of these.....
13. The Bombay Bicycle Clubs bikes all have no seats - none of them can sit down after eating them spicy potatoes all the time
14.
Got one of these winging its way to me, Ill weigh it when it arrives.
ok, im a bit of a slacker lol weighed it today and it came in at 7.9kg or 17.41 lbs. its fairly weighty, you feel it after a while. Im actually toying with the idea of taking the scratchplate off and routing some material away underneath it just to make it a bit lighter, how do you think that would affect the tone? Its actually a really nice bass, im well chuffed with it, and I reckon it looks the absolute dogs ball-locks, but then ive never really been a 'label' kind of a guy. Goes well with my George Atasda clothes
15.
Yep... I'm definitely getting old...
is it me , or has the bassist in that pic got his bass the wrong way round? i.e. hes fingering the back of the neck? (ooer)
16. Depends if we are using IEMS or not. Last singer insisted on a silent stage so away went my amp and I played blind for god knows how many gigs, then we got IEMS but for some reason the bass input into the controller bit always had a much lower input than the other instruments/mics, so I bought a little pre-amp/DI pedal to solve that issue. If I want to change the tone I use the knobs on me bass or the attack from my fingers - old school
17. 'The Mind Boggles' was the working title for a collaboration between Buggles (of Video Killed The Radio Star Fame) Nick Beggs of kajagoogoo fame, Jake Bugg of no fame in particular, Notorious BIG and the members of Pigbag (of Papas got a Brand new pigbag infamy) Thankfully, no one gave a t*ss tho so the project was scrapped. Quite right too
18. Suzanne Vega's name isn't Luka, and she lives not on the second floor but the one below that.
19. I wonder if Mrs Badsign has posted on a shoes forum something like, "Ive got £700 squirrelled away for new Jimmy Choos, do you think I should give half to the old man to buy a bit of wood with some metal bits on it?"
20.
No members of Ugly Kid Joe were called Joe. The band were christened their moniker after the lead singer bought a pet baby kangaroo.
a brace of facts to go with this, no members of Ugly Kid Joe were called Kid or Ugly either. Though I think there was a Dozy, and maybe a Sneezy
