1.
What about a dual-coil Jazz pickup? It would be humbucking but still fit into the existing rout. Something like a DiMarzio. http://www.dimarzio....tra-jazz-bridge Or a Bart, if you don't want to see pole pieces... https://www.bartolin.../product/9j-l1/
They don't seem to balance with the P as well as something with a wider footprint. They are generally not as fat (as I'd like) and being so close to the bridge it shows. The Nordstrand is probably a good call.
 2.
When we were in 7th grade we would all be petrified when Albert got on the school bus on the way home. We knew he was going to kick someone's butt. We just didn't know who. Albert's father was a band leader and his brother Mel was the original drummer for Twisted Sister. If Albert didn't take the the music path he could have easily went pro in foot ball. Nobody and I mean nobody could stop him when he had the ball. Chuck Burgi, drummer for Brand X back in 1976, now with Billy Joel was also a part of the music scene at our Montclair High School. So was Joe Walsh. Great days in a great place. Blue
wow... what a place/time indeed! I'm not slightly envious
 3.
The Beatles were likely more influencial, but much of this influence led ultimately to the pop music of today, which may not be seen as a good thing. Once the Baby Boomers are gone, I am not sure how much radio play the Beatles will get. Conversely, I am pretty sure you will still hear Bob Marley baselines coming through the walls/floor/spaceship window in a hundred years time.
Ha! that's exactly how I see it. There's no doubt that The Beatles had a huge impact in pop music at many levels, and in that respect they influenced more the path of popular music since... but it's a bit like inventing the wheel. It had its place, important, but then others ran with it and we'd rarely go back to rudimentary wheels made of wood or stone. Bob Marley may not have had the same huge impact (although I doubt reggae would be as popular as it is in our side of the world if it wasn't for him), but it doesn't sound 'dated' and I can't see that changing any time soon. I like the idea of Marley in space
 4.
You could get a MM pickup in the Ray position - but it would require removing or relocating the P pickup. Especially the D&G side. You could just flip it to the front of the E&A pickup half, end up looking like: But with the MM pickup maybe slightly farther from the bridge (different bridge style, you'd have to measure it from the 12th fret).
Yeah the MM pickup in that picture is still not in the Stingray position, it need to be farther from the bridge. But it's an interesting concept. Ou7shined here made a "Pingray" doing exactly that... it looks good and I'm sure it sounds good too but I never listened to it. However if it's not important to get THE Stingray sound... flipping the DG coils around will give the OP enough room to fit the MM pickup. I'd personally go with the JJ option as it requires less work and I know works well... but as there are a lot more choices when it comes to MM pickups, it may be worth considering...
 5. fantastic octave, the best tracking I've experienced... I love mine. Have a free bump
 6. That is pretty misleading And not very useful!
 7. Hard to tell, but I'd say Bob Marley has survived longest without seeming 'dated' and it'll likely continue.
 8.
Same! It always felt like there's the wrong number of notes to fit in somehow. The verse was fine which is odd as it's all over the board and there's a lot of quick fills but I got it fairly quick. The intro still eludes me but I stopped being a fan and haven't tried their stuff in years.
it is a weird run... glad to hear I wasn't the one. It seems ok but when I played it, it took a few more goes than I expected to get it right. I played in a RHCP tribute band for about 4-5 years... that song never was a favourite of mine. But people loved it!
 9. You may want to consider a "dual J" type of pickup, like the Modern Player Jazz or Maruszczyk Jake P/JJ and others. Essentially two bridge pickups side by side, wired as a humbucker. It'll be narrower so it'll fit in the space and they can be pretty fat and balance better with a Precision pickup than a single J.
 10. Very powerful pickup, great condition, lots of cable left. It comes with extra set of black covers. The originals have the large ear type which may not always fit your pickguard/body route. I got an extra set of black covers with the smaller type (Fender, DiMarzio, etc) to avoid filing. I also like it better without the lettering... postage included
 11. great condition, but has velcro attached to the bottom. wide range of distortions, some very synth-like, plus octave effect. Basic 3-band EQ + noise gate. Two presets.
 12.
Really surprised this hasn't sold.....lovely looking bassand a great price. GLWTS
indeed. It's caught me in a sensible period, otherwise I'd be all over this. Great basses. I'd love a Stingray-alike that looks as good as this, and RED! and MAPLE! but I'm slowly reducing my collection as I'm only using a small fraction of my basses... still, someone please buy this beauty before I do something stupid! Tom is a great guy as well, 100% trustworthy, so buy with confidence.
 13. Yup, any passive Jazz pickups will do. Nice bass, by the way... I had the 5-string version and I thought it was great, only let down by the meh pickups. A set of Dimarzio Area J pickups would be a great improvement...
 14.
Not a problem anymore ... I couldn't get the D string to grip the tuning post (coated strings too slippery?) and so put on a set of D'Addario EXLs that I had in my box instead.
How do you fit the strings? I put them through the hole, then bend them sharp as they exit the slot, effectively anchoring them. A couple of turns is all I need.
 15.
New 62 in Fiesta Red just landed. Downsizing collection to one wooden bass only from my XL2, couldn't find a decent 2EQ Ray, and have really enjoyed a Matt Freeman Precision as my 2nd residence bass for past couple,of years following a bad MIM Precision experience years ago. My first relic bass also (wife and son: "it needs a new paint job" - sheesh!). Very impressed so far, nice comfy neck - rolled edges, 40mm B type nut, and sounds great with flats on. I can do anything from Motown (tone off)to 70s/80s punk and indie with a pick. Chuffed.
I love it! This coming from a guy who is not a fan of 'relics'...
 16.
Yes I was still in the band at that point but I think I wangled my way out of that gig. Couldn't face another year of crashing on the floor of Saska's flat with fourteen snoring hairy men...
can't blame you!
 17. I use a 'small mixer' bag from Gator. Fits the Streamliner (and LM3 and other similar heads) very well, with power cable and speaker cables etc... but it's a strictly 'carry only' bag. I like some of the laptop rucksacks as they tend to have a variety of other pockets that can come handy, although the straps may get in the way: I carry the bass on my back (Fusion F1) so the amp is slung on my shoulder and back straps would be annoying. I like how the Gator bag has a neat squareish shape that helps me pack my car neatly.
 18.
Ah ok thanks. I left the band about 2 years ago and did a few Balkanaramas before then so I might've been there! Still doing the odd gig with them when they need a dep like on Saturday, bloody good fun. You're right, an amazing band.
It was May 2014... there was a fire alarm very early during the set in Glasgow and we all had to leave. You'd remember that if you were there
 19.
Really? Well that is some good news!
yup... in fact I'm a fan of those bridges as I can set the string spacing the way I want it (a bit wider than usual). I guess I've been lucky because I've had no problems so far with mine. No, I am not looking to buy another but it should sell ok and cover the cost of a standard BBOT Fender bridge with deeper grooves.
 20.
Last week I had someone agree to buy my bass from a Gumtree advert - price agreed and day agreed and then a email informing on the day of sale to say he was not going to buy. In my world if you get this far into a sale then it's a given you honour this but perhaps I am just old school ;-) I have loads of really good experiences from Gumtree buying/selling and will continue to use (for now).
luxury! he emailed you on the day!!! A few times I just waited at home for someone never to arrive, or reply to any texts... sigh. It happens. Too many idiots, so little time... just move on.
