1. PMs replied to. Pedal still available. I'm not considering trades at the moment, just cold hard cash ;-)
 2.
I think I asked Adrian to wire my JJ as humbucking with the pot in the down position, then single coil in the up position, don't know if this is also the standard way? I believe the bass finished and being setup this week, and so will hopefully get a photo soon and be ready to send out by the end of the week (fingers crossed) Si
That's how the switch in mine works, yes. oooh, exciting times!!!
 3.
Interesting description of the pick up, what would you say was missing, articulation and clarity?
I suppose that would be a good description too.
 4.
Yep - it's got the 'bucker / single coil pot. Mind, I rarely use both pickups wide open, so I'm not sure how often I'll use the bridge in single-coil mode. Mcnach - what didn't you like about the P pickup? What did you replace it with?
Hard to describe. It wasn't bad, just not "Precisiony" enough for my taste or for what I want a Precision to sound like. It felt a bit too big and dark and "unrefined"... I know, I know, this would mean different things to different people but that's the best I can do. I ended up with a Seymour Duncan SPB-1. I had a couple other pickups to try but that sounded good so I kept it. I like it much better than the original.
 5.
It is, isn't it? It's just got the passive Maruszczyks in it. I'm not sure how they compare to the Haussels in mine. Adrian says hotter and more vintage. Like these things always are, it's a bit of a gamble. Aesthetically, I do prefer a single J coil at the bridge, but it's not a deal-breaker. I'm switching between rounds and flats a lot at the mo, so I want one for each :-)
Ah, it'd be interesting to see how they compare to the Haussels in your other Jake. My P/JJ Jake has the Maruszczyk pickups. I was not a fan of the P. However I loved the JJ.
 6.
You could always have the humbucker switch to single coil on a pull pot, that's what mine will do Si
I think that's how Adrian wires them normally. Mine is like that and I did not specify anything on the wiring different from their stock configuration. In fact I had no idea until about 2 weeks after I had the bass when I pulled by chance and... hello! So WoT's new Jake is probably already wired with the coil tap.
 7.
Trigger pulled. 7lbs 7ozs of passive SAUCE. Come to Daddy, you strumpet!
Nice! similar to mine: What pickups are in yours?
 8.
Price inc postage?
yup. Postage (UK) included.
 9. £90 including delivery
 10. Clean boost and DI pedal, plus the well known VLE and VPF filters from Markbass in footswitchable form.
 11.
Are there any alternatives you would consider?
Not really. Every other I've tried has fallen short in one way or another.
 12.
If you can ship it, Dave Wilson is one of the best in the biz. If you're not on Facebook, let me know and I'll hook you up.
This!!! He's done my 75RI Jazz and lacquered the neck on my Stingray. Beautiful jobs, and the guy is as nice as they come
 13.
Honey Blonde, arriving next week, a used one. Not sure about the gold pick guard though.
Nice! what I really disliked was the touch, more than the look (which I didn't like either)... a white or black one would make it looke amazing
 14.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went with the MIM classic 50s precision. Saw one going for an OK deal and the colour was the biz. Not a beater bass, but hopefully I won't feel so precious about it. If I don't like it I can always pay cricket with the neck. Seriously though, should be able to sell on after an extended trial if it doesn't suit.
Excellent choice! The neck is what makes it or breaks it for most. I personally love it. What colour did you get?
 15.
I've not tried the Tribute but will do if I get the chance. The L2000 can sound quite like a Precision and sort of like a Stingray with lots of stuff inbetween !
The L2000 is a great bass, very versatile. It can sort of imitate some of the J sounds and a sort of a P sound, it does nothing close to a Stingray, but that's ok... the L2000 does its own thing. However, and I love mine, I just don't find that I fall in love with any of the sounds it does. It's all good but I guess I have a few sounds in mind, built in from listening to music over the years, and most of those are straight P/J/Stingray... and the L2000 could never satisfy me in that respect. So my solution is... owning Precision, Jazz and Stingrays... AS WELL as an L2000
 16.
I've always liked G&L and wouldn't mind having one of their basses one day, but how p bass like is the L2000, being active with 2 humbuckers?
It does something that can resemble a P bass if you just have to get a flavour hat resembles one... but if you want a Precision sound the L2000 ain't it.
 17.
When we're talking about the 50s style p bass, are we talking about sting type one with the tele style neck, or the one that still has the split coil and looks standard apart from a wide neck? Or are we talking about both kinds?
The Classic 50 series is the split coil version... The one on my avatar is the fiesta red one (with replacement pickguard as I don't like the original gold one)
 18.
I'm playing about with an old PJ bass and trying to find "the right" P pups. I like the gravel in the thump. But I've already fitted an Entwhistle Jazz pup, now I'm trying to find a P pup for the job. I saw the Entwhistle PBX and I'd like to know what they sound like. Have you tried them? I did find this quote: But what does the word "fat" mean? What do folk generally recon to the sound of Entwhistle pups? For myself I'm looking for a bassy pup with an element of gravel in the guts, but not a "clank". I like the SD Quarterpounders, but will PBX tick the boxes? Does anyone have any recordings?
by fat I mean... big sounding? Not sure that helps. Strong bottom end and low mids. Sound big and bassy but with definition. Not a huge amount of treble compared to other pickups but they still have plenty.
 19.
I bought a set of these P bass pickups. What is the script with the bar magnets? Never seen them on the outside of a pickup before. And the covers don`t fit in a Fender size pickup hole as the lugs are larger. No bigee but they will need some alteration to the pickgaurd.
or replace the covers like I did, about £4.
 20. They still feel different, for the most part. They're both classified as "wider" generally, and sometimes "chunky" but I find the Stingray generally the thinnest in cross-section of the two, even if it's wide. However, I find at home easily on either of their variations. I like the Fender Precision Classic 50 neck a lot. It's a little wider than a Stingray but similar profile, and the lacquered maple neck feels great.
 21.
Just go to Maruszczyk and get it over with...
This.
 22.
I name it Alphonso...
Loretta.
 23. It looks like PJB will be sending me a cable if I just pay postage. I wish there were a faster way even if I paid for the cable, I don't mind that. But they seem like a good bunch My headphones will work again!
 24.
*sigh* I so hope this was posted in fun as indicated by the smilies. Useful review but the discussion has sorta got dissipated along the way guys.... oh and the OP has sold her retro2x10 already.
it was all in jest, of course! It had a reference to some ridiculous thread (clown-whores was one of the interesting words that came out of it) but if you were not familiar with it I guess it could be taken completely the wrong way. Sorry about that!
