Deep Purple--Perfect Strangers Live DVD

I was really looking forward to watching this!!! -
The James Lomenzo Drive is a surprisingly good pedal for the price for rock/metal. I would recommend the VT-Bass (version 2), it covers a very wide range of tones with a powerful EQ section. I like it so much, I have two, for low gain and higher gain sounds. The Xotic BB is very cool for low gain fat gnarrly sounds, but I found it a bit limited. The Darkglass Vintage is a little too dark, but it is smooth. I sold mine to get the second VT-Bass just last week... I think it's overpriced for what it does. The Darkglass BK3 is a very interesting pedal. If I were in a metal band, I would have probably kept mine. The James Lomenzo is a decent substitute if the Darkglass seems too expensive. The Aguilar Agro... I haven't made up my mind about that one yet. I find it takes too much bottom end from my tone and I cannot really restore it. It also gets far too fizzy with the saturation past half way... But you can get a couple of really really good tones out of it if you tweak it enough. Still, not too happy about the bottom end loss. If you want to leave it on all the time for a song, it's ok, as you can compensate in other ways, but to switch on and off I found it hard to get it right.
So at last nights gig at a particularly sh*te pub, there's these 2 rather lovely very skinny but generously upfronted (?) girls, very drunk, dancing when one goes up to the guitarist/singer and shouts mid way through a song (like they always do) if she can sing. He smiles and shakes his head, so she moves on to the drummer and yells if she can have a go on the sticks. He shakes his head, she takes one look at yours truly and just walks away... charming. The girlfriend of said guitard then throws a punch at skinny girl and all hell breaks loose, guitarist amp dies and we set of the smoke alarm with the new haze machine, all for £60 each in a storm. Rock n Roll.
I hope guitarist finds a new girlfriend or bans her from future gigs... -
It LOOKED great! Gorgeous glossed maple fingerboard with white pearl inlays and white binding. It sounded pretty good too. But it just felt cheap. Tight. Couldn;t get the action low without buzzing. And I do set ups so that wasn't the problem.
I agree with the CV vs VM, the CV series just seems consistently a significantly better quality instrument. But, about getting the action low without buzzing... you know that's just because of some slightly uneven frets (something not that unusual even at instruments costing a fair bit more) and that it has a simple solution too, right?
Classic Grand has downstairs too, a bit smaller.
Yeah, I have played there, it's actually pretty good, I liked that venue.

Glasgow bands. Fancy a gig in Ivory Blacks?
mcnach replied to Ou7shined's topic in General Discussion
Although not a Glasgow band, you might get in touch with "Minds of Montage" on Facebook. I came across them last year and they were doing well and played a few Glasgow gigs. I tried to get them a couple of times to play with my RATM band in Edinburgh and they seemed like a good bunch, but busy playing out of town. Hmmm. Although it appears they're a duo now rather than a trio... no bass player???
Hi Mcnach, Does all this fit into the control cavity with the battery, or will it need a separate battery box? ( I have a stingray copy which is only passive at the moment so no separate battery box routing) Cheers Rowley
Hmmm, you will need a battery box, I think. It *could* fit, but the control cavities I've seen in copies (OLP and Vintage brand) I don't think will be big enough (mostly too narrow for teh battery) so you'd have to remove some wood to expand it a bit, which is easy to do with a chisel... and you've got to be careful. I've always gone for a separate battery compartment when converting basses to active. The preamp itself is narrow and smallish, so it can be made to fit under the pots, but the battery is just a little too bulky I suspect. I would assume it will require making a cavity somewhere. I once made one under the pickguard, so that my crime would be concealed!
No, not made in the U.S. (Indonesia) but sold in the U.S. I picked one up and the finish is poly and the bass is incredibly good. If it cost 4 times as much no one would bat an eye thinking it wasn't worth it.
I have to admit that on looks alone... the SBMM SUB (Indonesian) with surf green body and maple fingerboard is an incredibly tasty bass... They've managed to build some really nice looking instruments, not just the usual sunbursts, black, natural etc... and if they're half good, they'll sell lots.
The tonesuck made me sell my first Dunlopa 105q. When I bouth my second one I decided to get used to different sound. It still bugs me a little but I never found better sounding wah than this one. Glab is too hifi, Morley is pure terrible. I might want to try Xotic autowah, but I like to operate by myself...
The AMT is nice... but the sweep is a bit more difficult to control (because the pedal is so small). It does make a pop sound when engaging it, which I'm not in love with. Live is not always so noticeable (especially if you sync it with a snare hit )... Pity, because soundwise is great, I think.
And no pickguard? I like it.
yup, no pickguard. Or maybe black or white... but in principle no pickguard,
I have a classic, I took the preamp out and put an east in
is that the 2 or the 3 band John East MMSR?
Howdy Tough question, but if money was no object and you could literally have any bass on the planet, what would you choose and why?
A Stingray. Fiesta red, with maple fingerboard. I guess I'm not particularly exotic in my tastes.
