1.
It's definitely an option, but being an unusual bass it'll be a custom 'plate and therefor I expect not cheap. I'll get a quote at some point for sure.
as long as you have a template, it won't be extremely costly providing you or BassDoc has the material you want. Do get in touch with him, you may be surprised. He has copied a few scratchplates for me in the past, including an unusual one... and I am very happy with the results.
 2.
Ok, so that is a picture of the pickup that came out of it. I'm thinking it's red-power in, White-power out, bare-earth and green and blue for the coil switch. This was in a double humbucker model, and i want to make it a single humbucker version, so i removed the coil switch. The preamp had 1 wire that went to the coil switch which I assume was live, then all the wires of the pickups went to the coil switch, but how do i now wire the pickup straight into the preamp with the coil switch? Cheers guys.
Do you have a multimeter? That way you don't have to guess and you will know which wire is which, from the pickup.
 3. Does anybody know where I can find such a thing? It's not a big issue, 19 vs 20mm, but I do feel the wider spacing more comfortable and I'm thinking about replacing the bridge in my Vintage brand Jazz for that reason. I'm playing it a lot lately and for her birthday I want to make her feel even better. Sorry, I meant for ITS birthday and make IT feel even better. I have found enough 20mm spacing bridges (60mm between E and G ridges), but not in the traditional look, which I prefer. Does anybody know of such a beast?
 4. Sharing members across various bands is nice: it helps scheduling and you already know them (and like them, otherwise why are you with them?) But when one lets you down... So, we had a double bill gig scheduled in a well known music bar in town. At 9.30 Radge Against The Machine. At midnight Sea Bass Kid (originals). Now we share vocalist... and he just told us something came up at work and he will have to be away on that date... leaving both bands in dry land. How very frustrating! It shows you you can't have everything... If any of you wants to be Zach de la Rocha for one evening, in Edinburgh, on the 21st... do let me know! I started with that question but not being serious... however, hey, you never know! If any of you is interested, it would save us from cancelling both gigs
 5.
Good work. I've owned three Vintage guitars/basses---one of them was very nice indeed (ask McNach about that one...) and the other two were solid, decent budget instruments. My main issue with them is the name---"vintage" is a horrible name to google when looking for guitar gear! Not sure I could ever be an endorsee of anything, though. I don't think I could keep a straight face when asked to do that moody "this is my bass and I rock hard" publicity shot
+ 1 in everything, except for the 3 Vintage guitars/basses. I owned 4 That Jazz, by the way... will never ever leave my side again. I have been using it a lot live lately (tomorrow, again!), although I have changed it a bit since I got it back from you. I restored the wiring to standard, and I put some better pickups that I had in my drawer (US Fender of some sort, came originally in the CIJ 75RI, which the original CIJ 75RI owner had removed and replaced with Nordstrands. I think the Fenders sound great!).
 6. I bought a set of DiMarzio Model P pickups for my P bass from Ash. Straight forward, easy, great communication and quick postage. A pleasure to deal with. Thank you, Ash!
 7. Paul sold me a set of Wizard Thumpers for my P-bass. Easy transaction, good communication, no hassle. He posted the pickup quickly and I'm very pleased. Thanks Paul!
 8.
I think selling is hard sometimes, and once you've made the decision then you want to get it out asap. I can understand that. But I am the one paying. Many sellers change their mind. Many play the 'make the decision quickly or I'm selling to someone else' or '... Withdrawing soon' thing. What the... ?
my response if hurried like that would be "sell it to the other guy then". On gumtree I once saw a bass I mildly wanted. I expressed my interest, and we discussed when we could arrange to meet. It was tuesday or wednesday, I could meet him on Thursday, or at the weekend. Thursday was going to be complicated for him at the times I could make it, so we went for Saturday. He later txted me saying he had someone coming on Friday and was offering £10 more to hold it for him. He wanted me to either show up on Thursday at a time that was inconvenient for me, or offer more for him to hold it for me till Saturday. I said he could sell it to the other guy. The advert was again active the following week.
 9.
Speed slugs go at, it would need to be about 2 hours long...
just speed it up, and add the Benny Hill song as soundtrack
 10.
As for slugs, I tried wire and it didnt work, even tried putting a slug inside a circle of it, but it still got out. This year I,ll be trying 2 wires half an inch apart with an aa battey connected between. anybody tried that one ?
No, but I want a link to the youtube video
 11.
What a shame I am the sort of customer they needed - some disposable income.
If you buy second hand, no, you are not the customer they need, because you are not their customer... the sale was already made to someone else previously. But although I would not expect them to look after you with basic wear and tear, if a fault develops that suggests a problem in the manufacture, I would expect a serious company to take care of that. That is good for businesses, not having disgruntled users posting their bad experiences on internet. I'm very disappointed at this outcome.
 12. A car is expected to break down at some point. Maintenance is required. The neck of a bass is never expected to bend sideways over time. That indicates a problem with the original materials.
 13.
Plate arrived today and looks lush. Thanks to Conan for the heads up and Howard for a classy job (well, as classy as red pearloid can be, which isn't really classy at all...) Choc ices all round. Amen.
I'm glad he's getting back on track after his recent problems. He has made a few pickguards for me, some very "custom" without a real template, and he has always done a great job as well as been really nice to deal with.
 14.
You need a bass that ticks the following boxes............. 1. Cheap initial cost to maximise your return. 2. Popular at the time to maximise the recognition and nostagia. 3. No longer available new. 4. Subsiquently go out of fashion and therefore discarded / destroyed / modded to create rarity. Seriously this is a no brainer. There is only one to have.............. A Sue Ryder RP-1 A
he is right, you know?
 15. I think a couple of years ago there was a similar issue and a couple of BC members local to the "rogue seller" helped... no violence or any kind of threats were used (as far as I know), but when people are reminded that they cannot escape their actions simply by not logging in they may be more likely to do the right thing. I once had an issue with a would be seller who turned out to be a scammer. It was my fault as there were a couple of red flags I did not pay attention to, and got caught. However, the scammer was not very bright. I located a handful of others that had also been scammed. Two of us did not use the gift option, so Paypal took care of us anyway. But others were not protected. As the scammer was not very bright, I found some info about him, and I managed to make him believe I knew a lot more than I did. I know that at least one of the "unprotected" BC members also got their money (it was my condition that the scammer paid him back, in order for me not to take things further ) Not saying the rogue seller here is a scammer. It does sound like he may have some issues at the moment. But that's not a problem the OP has to deal with. A sale was agreed. Full stop. It's either the bass or a refund without further delay. A "real life" contact can often be very useful in these situations. And I am not talking about violence or threats, I insist. At least not in the first place.
 16.
Aria SB-R60....looked lush, dull as can be...nothing wrong with it but so disappointing. Worst one I played...OLP 4 string, really very bad, I can see why Ernie pulled the plug.
I love OLPs! I owned 4. One I quickly got rid off as it was too heavy and not a very good thing... the other three were great. I still own one! I have never owned a really horrible bass... the worst was probably a Precision copy made by Alba. But even that one was not terrible. Oh, wait, a Stagg BC300 P/J. Very uninspiring. No, but it was not horrible either.
 17.
The `Funder Jeff Bass` range are future classics, mark my words
They have fans already, I tell you that!
 18.
Thanks for the info. Iv not had chance to play many dual p config basses but its definately gonna be my next purchase.
I'm surprised they are not more common. I think they work really well outside the "standard" P configuration.
 19.
As some might know, I'm putting together a band. It's the first time I've done this as prevous bands have been me joining them. I put a couple of ads up for various musicians, got a guitarist, a drummer (got rid of one that was stoned), and a control surface player, but one thing that struck me is vocalists. Every one so far has had no experience with a mic, don't know any basic music theory (what's a chord?) or play any instruments & then when they get in front of a mic, they struggle. The first singer I had did have a good voice, but as he hadn't used a mic before, he hated the sound of his voice & doesn't want to sing through a mic again. I've now got more singers interested, but again, no experience with a band or a mic & no writing skills either. I don't mind them having no experience if they're a good singer, but there's a lot of bedroom singers that can barely sing any better than me! I suppose I'm used to my last band's singer being an excellent songwriter & musician all round & finding someone with just a part of his skill is a task. So how do you guys go about getting a singer that has some skill & weeding out the bedroom singers? Do I have to have 5 turn up to an audition?
There are far too many "x factor generation" singers out there. Some may have potential, some may be good already... but the vast majority are clueless. For that reason, whenever we needed one, we always made sure we indicated he/she must have experience, and we want clips before deciding to get together for a try out.
 20.
I've just put some Luminlay side dots on my fretless. See this thread here for details: http://basschat.co.u...y-fret-markers/ They do the job nicely
I did something similar on my Warwick Corvette $$ years ago. Only in my case I bought a small tester of various glow in the dark paints £6 for a few ml of 6 colours. Some very pretty, but the green one was the brightest and longest lasting. Then I bought some glow in the dark paint in powder form. Green and brightest too. It came in a white padded envelope and you could see the green glow through it! Next I just mixed some paint with powder to make a very thick mulch, and I aplied that to the fret markers. A small blob on each. This was useful in two ways: you could feel them easily without looking, and after shining one of those small £5 UV torches on them, they glowed for a long time. Just swipe the torch on the side, a couple of passes and you are good to go. I'm considering repeating the operation now on my black Jazz. I don't feel I need anything on maple fingerboards, but on thsi Jazz on a dark stage, I made a couple of mistakes a couple of weeks ago. The fret markers are very small and they have become dark... so this would be a nice and easy solution. I like the leds, as long as they are not very bright (I want them visible only by me, not the audience, they are not to look flash) but the cable on the headstock, battery compartment etc... it just looks pretty ugly to me.
 21.
I've just read the comment about batteries, which puzzles me. They use CR2032 batteries, which are pretty common here. And they sent me about 5 with the bass, which ought to last a year or two.
INdeed, that's the battery computer motherboards use! (and a few FX processors like the V-Amps etc)
 22.
The Singer in our band dedicated a song with a not terribly pleasant subject matter, to a man who was bantering (almost heckling) at him from the audience. I couldn't stop it happening quick enough sadly, but he didn't realise the heckler was the man who rang & booked us! He was the landladys brother :-s Still got paid tho so we must've been ace ;-)
This short song by the Reel Big Fish comes to mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xASP72P2vY0
 23.
Did have something similar happen years ago. What I did was wait till we had a break between sets, then when the guy went to the toilet I followed him in walking briskly enough so that people noticed. Soon as he saw me, he started apologising, blaming it on the drink etc. so I just walked out with a smirk. People noticed I left the bog smiling, and he left looking sheepish. It was his works do, and much as I wanted to, battering him wouldnt have gone down well. But at least I felt I had saved face a little bit.
I have to confess I enjoyed that inside... but I would not want to be seen as a band who threatens physically hecklers, you know? I think it's best the odd witty retort or ignoring the guy.
