1.
Looks good! Have you managed to have a proper play now?
as properly as I can at home. Real test will come at rehearsal/live, which won't happen for another couple of weeks. It's a grower. As I tweak it, it gets nicer. Definitely not a fan of the neck pickup, but the bridge one is decent. When I get my replacement NJ4SE from Nordstrand (I had one, it died, I bought replacement... then Nordstrand said they'd send me one FOC too) I will put it there... or maybe even disconnect the original, screw it into the body and just use one pickup. I'm very much a bridge-pickup type of person. I have it with mid/low action as I like it, and one of these days I'll get around to applying some oil on the neck, which will remove the slightly "raw" feel it has... I'm quite happy with it, I just cannot make up my mind about the esthetics: red or black guard, ric-esque or Stingrayesque with metal plate? etc etc... but none of that changes the basics of the bass, and I like it.
 2.
I like this thread a lot, but I've just got nothing to say right now. If its still here in a couple of weeks, I might have something to say then.
beautiful! I used to have a thread just like this one. Great value. I sometimes wished I hadn't closed it.
 3. and here it is: two screws have not yet been installed: they were moved from the original position and I haven't drilled them yet. I also had these other knobs from an old project, and I think it looks nice. Perfect match, the Bass Doc has done a wonderful job... yet again! (pity about the reflection... I've only just noticed!!! )
 4. If you haven't sorted it out yet, and you can bring yourself tomorrow (Wednesday 19th) to the Comely Bank area of town, before 12.30pm, I can fix it for you in 5min.
 5.
First off, I just want to say that I think this site is fantastic and has opened up the bass market for me which, before, was only filled by ebay and I know how we all feel about that. What I don't get about this site is why people feel the need to comment on my 'for sale' topics and state that they have no money. I'm thinking this should be banned. Some people have an appreciation for the items on sale but there is no need to write things like "love this bass but totally out of funds right now." I see these posts every day and they are just pointless. The sellers are seriously trying to make some money by advertising their items but the forums are plagued with people who have this inherent desire to tell you how broke they are. You wouldn't walk into an estate agents and say "excuse me sir, I really like the house advertised in your window but unfortunately I have no money" and then walk out... These people come in to the same category as those who seem genuinely interested in your item, you send them a billion more photos which they have personally asked for, then they disappear off the face of the planet without so much of a thank you. Okay, rant over. I appreciate forums are places where people can post what they like, it just seems a bit much sometimes. Thanks for reading, Dave
well, I think they show appreciation for what you're selling and everytime they do that they bump your ad to the top. And you complain? free bumpage at the very least! like others already said... it mostly just reflects the social side of the forum.
 6.
A pub near to me has, over the last couple of years, become a regular venue for bands. The landlord has built the pub up nicely, with good ale on offer too. He's just put out a message on the pub's Facebook page saying that any band that attempts to play the following songs will be fined £40. Wishing Well, Sex on Fire, Teenage Kicks. I laughed when I read it and I suspect it's been done tongue-in-cheek. I know, from conversations I've had with him, that he's a genuine music fan. Maybe some of the regulars have been grumbling to him, I don't know yet. What do you think? How would you feel if the landlord asked you to knock certain songs out of your set?
well, judging by how I have heard most bands play them... I can't say I disagree with him!
 7.
Only thing that concerns me is the fact that it's based on the very EQ that I've taken out of the bass on account of not liking it :-D
I have a 2002 Stingray, and I didn't really like the preamp. The treble was a bit "clangy" and the bass too unsubtle and boomy. It worked, but it did not inspire me. I have now the John East preamp and love it to bits. It is based on the 2EQ, but if feels to me that the treble sounds a bit more tame, and the bass a bit "tighter", and then the midsweep control is just fantastic. I know, I know, it doesn't make a lot of sense on paper... but the JE really did it for me when I disliked the 2EQ in my Stingray.
 8. Cheers! Hopefully we will find a way to fix these!
 9. pickguard works pictures to follow, tonight or tomorrow morning
 10.
if its just a plain ali or steel plate then give us a nod. Wont be able to chrome it though! A
hmmm, interesting! I'll keep it in mind. Have you ever thought of opening a shop? (you'd have at least one customer! )
 11. No fix yet. I took it to Dennis Marshall, but I think I didn't make clear what the problem was. He noticed a couple of loose components and thought it was a mechanical thing. I picked it up... of course, it was still there. This time I made sure he heard it. After a couple of days he said he had not yet figured out the issue, then he was going to be away... now I'm going away... so I hope to find out by the first week in october. I'll report back here. If you make some progress, please let us know here too. Very nice sounding amp, otherwise.
 12. and the pickguard arrived! Looks good, perfect match of the original, plus an extra bit that I measured (so if it's wrong it's my fault ) Will report back with pictures tonight. The metal pickup ring could work too, certainly tipping the hat more towards that who shall not be named... At this stage, I'm happy with the simple black pickguard. Perhaps a red one (I like the large red body). But if I try something different... it's got to be a Stingray nod: oval pickguard (use the old OLP one), probably removing the neck pickup entirely, and a large metal control plate (it's got to be large unfortunately, given the extensive routing). I considered a SR5-inspired enlarged pickguard, but I don't think they look that good. But this would depend on finding soemone to do the plate etc etc, and frankly, I still haven't had the chance to play this bass that much yet, I think I'd like to focus on that now
 13. Just the one, yes but I keep thinking that the OLP guard plus a metal plate would be quite nice... hmmm. Maybe if I find who can cut a plate like that...
 14. oooh, I just heard the new pickguard is in the post making its way to rainy Edinburgh!!!
 15.
I always found battery life in the transmitter an issue but a few years since I used them. Perhaps the technology has moved on since then? BB
over 8h on the G30, and very accurate battery level indicator. No problem
 16.
I seem to walk around on stage a lot, and it's not uncommon for me to catch myself about to yank my amp off the stack in my enthusiasm so I was wondering about wireless replacements for leads... Anyone on here got much experience with them and any comments? Do they affect the sound in any way? (I'd hate to sacrifice quality just so I can ponce about on stage pretending to be a rock god - as if!)
Line6 G30, one of the best bits of gear I ever bought. No signal compression like on old radio systems, these digital units are very very good. Freedom on stage, you'll wonder how you managed before! And it's a good thing to have when you want to hear what the band sounds like in front, as others said.
 17.
just for mcnach here it is with the wilkinson pups under the cream covers, sound is fairly meaty which as im in a rock band im pretty pleased about, still undecided over the headstock decal, do i or dont i? only waiting for the bridge now although if i can get a few more nightshifts in it may not get fitted when it comes anyway in favour of a badass apart from that its finished! thanks for reading my probably boring sometimes build
nice! Thanks for the pictures!
 18.
I quite liked it, I was just rubbish at it. Finished up getting a grade 6 in it at O level (the equivalent of an A*** at GCSE, I think). Although I did make the sig up all on my own, Mrs Zero is the real Latin expert as she actually did an A-level in it.
so it is your own!!! I'll make a point of attributing it correctly to you, everytime I use it
 19.
As I understand it, Fender used to be quite aggressive in protecting their brand until they realised there's more money to be made licensing after-market parts and presumably copies, so I don't think JH should be painted in quite such negative terms. Anyway, I'm still stuck with the problem of selling this bass via ebay so might take the approach of selling the component parts (which themselves are worth around the asking price) and sending them attached to a curiously shaped piece of wood? All suggestions welcome C
Of course I have no problem with someone protecting their products! But going after private ads about 30 year old copies, especially when making it clear it's a copy, and the logo also states it clearly, seems rather exaggerated to me.
 20.
By the way Jose, I was thinking last night, did you ever get that pickup fixed? I think I had half a dream of you and loads and loads of wire everywhere. Why I was dreaming that I don't know!
I'm not sure if I want to know more details about that dream... so, moving swiftly on... Nordstrand said they'd send me a replacement... then said they were out of NJ4SE pickups, but they'd have a new batch by the end of this week and then they'd send it to me. So I haven't got it yet. I asked them whether they'd like me to mail teh dead one to them, and they replied "yes please", so I did. I will ask them later, and see whether they tell me where the break was (only one of the two coils were dead, as I tested them with a multimeter).
 21.
But.... quidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur
nice one During my first year at university in this country, I had some coursework for the Ecology class that involved writing short essays a couple of pages long, as the answer to a number of points. These were done over a period of several weeks, so usually I'd do one at a time. I submitted the whole thing when asked, and when it came back, section 8 had a note from my teacher written at the top in red: "wrong language, I'm afraid, but I'm sure you are right anyway!" I had written that section in Spanish... and he still gave me full marks for it.
 22.
WHAT! You didn't read my post about it a few weeks back? Sacrilege if I ever sawrit.
I apologise profusely, oh master Bert I hated Latin in high school... and it was the subject in which I got the highest mark ever. IN one exam, marked between 0-5, I was awarded a 5.15 because the teacher liked my translation so much. I actually think she knew I hated Latin and she just wanted to annoy me. My usual top mark class would be Maths, or Physics or Chemistry... but she ensured that my best, for the record, was Latin. And I don't remember any of it. But I can still make sense of a lot of it, as I speak Spanish and Italian. I had a gig at midnight tonight... and I managed to use the latin expression. They did not get it... which brings it back... oh no, I'm trapped in a loop!!!
 23.
If i ever come to sell it you have first refusal but that might be a while away i could be tempted to do another one though at some point, maybe a p/bass for a matching pair
I'm patient. I found Sam, who bought my first bass, at a gig back in 2010, two years after I had sold it to him. I told him then that I wanted the bass back. Three weekends ago I took possession of that bass again. Oh, and Sam is still alive, nothing untoward happened here On another note... a matching P would be just the thing... just make sure you keep posting pictures
