Anything with Tony Levin playing

Does anyone know what drivers the 2103x uses? I'm not worried about the celestions, it's the 5" ones I'm interested in. Looking at one at the moment but been informed that it'll need a new 5", anyone got any ideas on it?

Yeah definitely Depends how much time it gets off work though, the poor buggers barely get any time to relax at the moment. Did some recording with it yesterday though, into the Trace head which was DId into the desk with a multicomp in between - no post processing need be done

Oh and string spacing is 17mm at the bridge and 9mm at the nut.

Couple more pics for you guys Couple more things I want to do with it, as said the bridge needs respraying and the saddles really need a refurb too, but I'll wait for a restring before I do that job. Gold strap lock pins too, bold screws in for the control cavity along with gold tuners. All for some point in the future, I'm liking the gold / black / red theme though.

I've got a leather Warwick bag. Really can't fault it. It makes my other Warwick Premium line look and feel cheap!

Ahh cheers guys, I'll get onto it tomorrow, hopefully have something better than an iphone pic for you. Still needs some more work on the aesthetics, but as far as sound and playing goes, it's virtually bob on. When the rotosounds on it die then it's getting a set of DR Hi-Beams - then I'll be laughing

Picked it up about a year ago for £500, didn't know what it was. Turns out it's a Bass Doc creation with a Jim Cairnes neck, and for the money it was still fantastic. But I couldn't really get along with it. Previous owner hadn't really looked after it, and I couldn't get my head round the EMG electrics, not helped by my cat dragging it off the wall which sheared one of the concentric pots. It also looked like a bus had run over it, missed, reversed and tried again. Anyway, finally got the funds together (gigs, new job etc) to get it sorted, so sent it in to Steve and Ryan at The Guitar Repair Workshop in Manchester, left it with them for getting on for a month, and it's now back Had a John East fitted (something addictive about these!), full set up new strings etc, frets filed, levelled and dressed, and the black, plastic knobs switched for nice gold ones. Needless to say, it looks and sounds better than it ever has before. Before: After: Well worth the money Just need to respray the bridge, repolish and laquer the saddles as they're already tarnishing since I last did them.

Could I not have two? I'd have an Acoustic 12 with an Ashworth pickup in there, preferably John Hullah, Fylde or Martin, and then the Warmoth Telecaster my father recently laid his hands on

Get lucky with a cheapy - Harley Benton (amazingly good considering it cost me....nothing ) Otherwise I'd be looking at a Fylde Ariel or similar. Fred Baker has mentioned his a couple of times to me, I think it's called a LaMack or something similar. Can't find anything on the net though.

For Sale, Yamaha CS2x 61 Key Synth. Bought this around 7 or 8 years ago, in a non smoking environment. Over the last few years it's probably come out of it's case once or twice a year, so realistically it's just surplus to requirements. At the moment, it hasn't got a power adaptor, but if it generates enough interest I'll happily go and get one to put with it, uses a standard Yamaha KPA3. Spec includes (Borrowed from SOS) 61-note velocity-sensitive keyboard. 16Mb waveform ROM. 779 total voices (584 GM/XG voices, plus 20 GM/XG drum kits). 256 preset performances, plus 256 user performance memories. Three 24-bit effects processors (12 reverb, 14 chorus and 62 'variations'). Arpeggiator with 40 styles (ouput via MIDI). Real-time sound control knobs and two Scene memories. 64-note polyphony. 16-part multitimbrality in Multi Mode, 13 part in Performance mode. Built-in PC/Mac computer interface. It also comes with a custom built fully fitted Freestyle Flightcase, with carpet covering, and the inside is soft and fluffy stuff (technical term right there ) The only two minor issues is that one of the knobs keeps falling off, until I fixed it with a dab of blu tack, on the right side of it too on the edge there's what looks to be some sort of burn on there, it's really small though and doesn't detract from the performance of the instrument itself, and you really have to focus to see it. So yeah, I'm after £200 collection from either Rochdale or Barnsley (currently at my flat in Barnsley). I can look at postage at additional cost if you wish, just give me a shout about it. I'm also going to try and dig out the manual and sound book for it too. You could always look at going for a bigger car, not as daft as it seems as insurance companies don't tend to see it coming. Young drivers tend to be associated with Corsas, Fiestas etc, so get higher insurance. hopefully within the month I'm going to be going from a 1.0 Polo to a 1.6 Focus at the age of 20, and there's no difference in the cost of insurance.

Last gig I did, sound engineer cocked it up come to think of it, but we got through the band's first song no issue (i was still on stage as i depped for the band before), first song no issue. Second song starts with piano. So pianist starts playing...no sound. Hits keys a bit harder, no sound. From the middle of nowhere the singer just went down the mic "I can't hear Paige!!" me and the drummer almost missed our cues after that Same set also started with just bass and one guitar (counting crows big yellow taxi), and we were doing it in C for the singer. Turns out guitarist forgot to put capo on, and we went straight into playing it in Bb. Sad thing is that I only noticed we were pulling it off about half way through the song!!!

Funny things you've heard at a gig/soundcheck?

Oh and when I had the Acoustic rig, someone said to me "Does Acousic mean I can plug my acoustic guitar into it?" -

In an orchestra I used to play in, conductor once told my section (French Horns) and the Trombones that we were too loud and needed to play a bit quieter, and we would try again from etc. So second time, we didn't play at all and he just went "yeah that's fine guys, keep up the good work" ... prick -
Don't know if you're still looking, but go for a Hiscox. At the end of the day you wanna protect your baby. Also, the Hiscox will also fit the other basses in yer signature

I'm a very stingy one myself. People have used my stuff in the past, sometimes without even asking, and althoug no damage ever done, I still don't see it as worth the risk. The one that hacked me off the most is a gig I played a year or two back and there were a couple of bands on, guitarist snapped a string so I quickly drove him to get some, and left my lead on top of the amp, in my open kit case, neatly coiled. Came back to find the other band using it, and once he'd finished with it he yanked it out of his bass by the cable, and just scrunched it up. Needless to say, he got the bollocking of the lifetime! The one I'll always remember is a battle of the bands final, got a phone call from the organiser pretty much telling me that I had to lend the other bands my amp, and if I didn't the night couldn't go on as they couldn't get another bass amp. At that point I politely told them where they were going to stick it, and questioned how four bands could make it to a final, with only one of them having a functioning gig rig. By the time I got to the bottom of it, it turns out that one band had blown up their bass amp, the other band just didn't have one (???!!!) and then the third band had just got a nice new Mark Bass rig and didn't want to gig it. Needless to say I told them they can find an amp elsewhere and that I will not be providing my bass amp, and will DI into the PA if I have to, then proceeded to turn up with my rig just for myself...... I wonder why we didn't win that one then

I'll be in Blue Camp at Download

Only a few of the Fyldes are sensitive to strings as far as I'm aware, notably the Touchstones, neither of my dad's are Touchstones (Mandolin and Mandola) but they don't appear to be sensitive to strings as far as I'm aware. I'm not a mandolin player myself (I leave that to my dad), but I've recently been tempted to learn. Somehow I doubt I will be getting very far down the street with either of my dad's Fyldes or his new Eastman. I'm lucky enough to be able to get my mitts on the Wal

I'm another one in the Hiscox camp. Dad's got one for his Martin and Hullah acoustic guitars, I saw the solidity and got one myself. Fits every bass I own perfectly (apart from the acoustic obviously), and you can jump on it. Most of the time I use my leather gig bag, but as far as chucking a bass into the back of the car with rig and such, Hiscox is definitely the way to go.

Fretless Warwick Corvette - I love the way it looks and the way it plays, I've played many many fretlesses and this has to be by far the best (apart from the GMR I played down at LBGS). The John East 3 band EQ gives so much flexibility, if I'm gigging where the EUB isn't practical, no problemo, just take the fretless. It looks absolutely fantastic under any form of performance lighting or sunlight, and it cost me £500 all in. Bargain! Downfalls? Well especially in it's leather gig bag it weighs a tonne and a half, and first fret position feels like it's miles away. Fretted Warwick Corvette - Pretty much same as above, got the same East preamp bar the mid control, but due to the way it's set up, it doesn't really need it. It's marginally lighter than the fretless, and with it's honey violin finish and gold hardware, what's essentially a bland colour looks absolutely fantastic. Again, cost me £500 and I've not really played many basses that makes me want to get rid of it. Downfalls of it are again first fret is miles away, and due to the way it generally sits, slapping properly can be quite a challenge on the wrist. But for the way it looks and sounds, I'm happy to compromise as I don't slap all to often anyway. It's my main go to bass. 'The 6' - Tricky one this, I bought it as a punt, didn't really know what it is, I just knew that Howard (the bass doc) is a good builder, and Jim Cairnes was a fantastic neck luthier, so realistically how wrong could I go for £500? The quilted maple finish looks fantastic, and as far as 6ers go, it's very forgiving to play. I haven't used it as my main bass though, so it doesn't seem to sit perfectly with me, I have to think about what I'm doing when i'm playing it, which is something I don't have to do with the Warwicks. I also love the anonymity of it. It doesn't have a particular make written on it (apart from the Overwater bridge) so it looks good and sounds good, but leaves people wondering what the hell it is. For the money it was definitely worth it, but it definitely needs some work doing at it. So the downfalls? I find the EMG active system very confusing and hard to get on with. It doesn't help that one of my cats tried to climb it and pulled it off it's wall hanger, shearing one of the stacked pots off. Managed to source another one but the wiring is very tight and messy in there, so I'm seriously considering pulling the system out and fitting an East in (surprise surprise) The Wal - Well it's a Wal, can't really say more than that about it really. It's a TR1 / Passive Mark 1 so even more exclusive, some people love them and some hate them. Single humbucker and tone and volume pot, I treat it as my ideal Precision. What don't I like? Well it's my dad's but I have unlimited access to it, problem is I'm not allowed to move it over to my apartment despite him not playing a lot of bass at the moment. Acoustic fretless 5 - Well it was free, can't complain at that. Although to be honest, given how good it sounds (Especially through an amp), I'd happily pay the list price for it. The only thing I don't really like is that the side dots are marked as if it's a fretted bass up to the 12th fret, then it's suddenly marked as if it's a true fretless. VERY confusing!

Piano - Trumpet - Bass - French Horn. I still actively play Piano though and Bass / Double Bass is my main Still got a Trumpet but it's not been out of it's case since December '10!
