1. My old band have turned up at a gig in the past, sort of open air (was part of a big event but in a tent thing), where we rehearse was about 4 miles away, and given the event was in the centre of town, traffic was terrible. Got to Littleborough, loaded the cars up and headed into town, whilst setting up "errrr guys... where're my cymbals?" We were the only band too! That day I learnt some fairly interesting back roads
2. Most I've had so far is: Pa rig (2 EV tops, flightcased mackie 1604, 4u amp rack, 4 monitors, cable trunk, 2 stand bags) Acoustic head and 4x10 cab Mesa Boogie DC5 combo 2 basses, 2 guitars and a drummer (he went in the passenger seat) Into the back of a 3 door Polo. I should've taken pics of it
3. Just a shame I was born in Rochdale then It's not a bad place to live though, although I am right in the centre so everything is pretty close.
4. I no longer feel like a loner living here
5. Ah someone else around 'Tarn, welcome! (I'll admit I only live here, was born over t'hills)
6. Mine's currently a keeper, recently moved it to my apartment actually from my parents much to their relief I'm in two minds about it, I love it to bits, got a bit worried as the 2x10 wasn't sounding as poppy as per usual...turns out the lead had failed so I was running on 1x15 only Not really much has taken my fancy, although at LBGS I had a go with the new Hartke HyDrive gear (suggested by Dood) and I'm now solely tempted by an LH3500 and two 1x12s!
7. Scon or Scown (sk-own) for scone? I say Scown, because the Queen sits on a throne. Just saying
8. Well... I loved it! Wanna stand out? Slide your harmonics on a fretless, it'll be the new slap Little trick Fred Baker taught me in my last lesson.
9.
Hahaha. If it wasn't my 15 minutes with Alex, I was usually not on the stand. I did notice some people just picking up basses, plugging in and playing when.. let's be honest.. that's not quite the right thing to do when the bass is about £7,000 ha. Will add that some stalls were very guilty of not keeping track of volume, but we were good when our 15 mins were up. That and some just purposely went as loud as they physically could just to spite the audience you were getting. See y'all next time!
Yeah I get what you mean, I saw a lot of that. I liked the demos, I heard they weren't to everyone's liking and I recall someone getting quite rude about it, and perhaps also having other competing basses in the area, one of which led to them being rather rude to myself and someone else which didn't upset me or anything, but I found bang out of order. I loved that Jazz on the John East stand as with the P, though I found the neck on the Jazz a tad fat, and couldn't stop playing it. So sorry about letting John turn it up, Tom
10.
if it was during the demo with the tapping guy i think you did us all a favour
Yeah it was I didn't mind that guy that much to be honest, him and Tom seemed to work together quite well
11.
me and goblin were trying out some ritters through headphones on the bass gear stand. Next thing i know i've got some tool behind me playing loudly through the Aguilar rig and i couldn't hear anything i was playing. So in this point the headphones became useless.
It was probably TomKent's revenge after I accidentally drowned him out when he was doing a demo on the BassGear stand (Mr East turned the amp up, not me )
12. I was speaking to John East about the preamps in ACGs, and although I can't comment on the ACG specific preamp, the two East systems I've got work well with both MEC and EMGx pickups, and they worked well with whatever was on the Jazz and P I tried, along with the ACG I looked at. So I can't imagine there being much issue
13. I got back around half 12 last night and had a cracking weekend! Met quite a few new people from here and not on here, including Molan, Tom Kent and Dood. Also got to have a play with Dood's Shuker 6 which was truly beautiful too...though one exhibitor wasn't too keen on us trying it out with an amp, so we politely moved over to the Hartke stand (possibly a mistake for me as I now want a new rig ) Best basses of the show for me was probably the MGR basses, the fretless 6 he had was to die for, followed closely by the blonde 5... then the fretless 5 with a Delano. Sod it, they were all awesome As for the noise levels, I wasn't too fussed by them. There was a lot of slap, but when the air horn went off things did generally quieten down. It was mainly the guys on the Taurus stand who didn't give a crap, much to the annoyance of the poor guys on the GHS stand right opposite them!
14. I'll be wandering both days too Clothes, errrr...no idea
15. "I haven't enough petrol to go fetch the drummer, can we do without him?" That was one of mine and I was the band driver. Also had from a drummer recently "nah we don't need to tighten up, we'll just wing it"
16. Awesome Cheers for that
17. Looks like I'm going to be parking then, cheaper than a train from Watford that's for sure as there's 2 of us to split it. Would I have to pay congestion charge / how would I go about it? I'll be coming in from the M1 I presume?
18. I'll give this a bump for a fantastic amp, got one at home
19. I caught this last night on iplayer Pretty sweet, my mate who knows you was telling me about this on Saturday night
20. It's flawed in many ways, such as I've never played with that guitarist until this afternoon, this was the second time we'd played the song, and I've not played fretless since beginning of december so it was unsettled and going flat for fun, and my intonation went awol in a couple of places.....but it was all good fun. Hoping to record it properly when the singer's got his voice back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuU7AT-jmwo&feature=youtu.be
21. I've got a full system (2 single pots and 2 stacked)...it may not have mid for all I know. It's too damn complicated for my liking
22. I've got a BTC on my 6er. Hate it to be honest, the bass gives enough bass, but the mid and treble just gets honky and hissy - not nice! Also I'm in the situation where one of the concentric pots sheared, and getting a replcacement is proving to be a bit of a nightmare! John East all the way in my opinion
23. Thanks sifi, I'll bear that in mind. I won't be making a move on it until some time around late march / april so got time to carry on with the research and such. As for Warmoth my dad's got a Warmoth Telecaster which is absolutely beautiful, but as you said, tax and vat is an issue (although ours came second hand from a neighbour who traded one of his guitars for it, didn't like it but liked our Tokai Les Paul!) If you can post pics though that would be great, wet my appetite a bit
24. I could take the East out, but my mate has also said to me that he loves it with the East too. Could potentially be an easy sale! Ideally I'd like to keep it but I'll see what funds are after however long and such. For what I want I reckon I'll be able to get the build within budget. Well, until I looked at the Warmoth website
25. I reckon budget will be tight. If I go for rear routing I can save myself money on the East system and have what I've got in both of the Warwicks, as they appear to be cheaper than the Retros. Woodwork parts I've no idea. I'm going to wait until at least march once I've done London bass show, where I'm going to play as many Jazzes as I can, so I can decide whether I want a 4 or a 5 (means I could possibly sell the 6 giving more money in the budget, but do I want to have a 5 string all the time as I'll be selling the fretted 'Vette to make way) It's all very complicated
