If you want new, the best cheap basses I've ever played are Staggs, especially their fretless (no idea what model, J layout). Sat with one in PMT for about half an hour, it was good enough for me to not want to put it down, and it sounded really good. Did a good job of irritating the bad slapper trying out a Japanese Jazz at full volume

Bass is my main, but I also play piano to a similar standard, followed by trumpet and french horn I sold the curly wurly recently though!

It sounds good through the multicomp and trace rig...just saying

Yeah Harley Benton, it could just be a lucky one. I never really looked at Harley Benton, but it's free and I'll get good use out of it. For going round folk sessions / uni acoustic nights, it's perfect. I've love a Guild or a Fylde, but there's no way I could afford one at this stage, and I'd be spending all my time worrying about it getting clattered in a session or something. I play fretless by instinct anyway, so I've not actually checked the dots on it

It looks and feels great (need to tweak the action a bit as the nut is high, but hey, it plays!), sounds good and projects well and the preamp isn't all too bad either. Very happy new year indeed

Another top guy, had an acoustic bass off him for absolutely nothing, had a nice chat when i went to collect it, bass looks and sounds great (I'd have paid the list price for it!). Top marks!

Got a MultiComp May also possibly be getting a fretless 6er too

We have Ashdown amps at uni, when it came to the uni gig I was quite pleased that they decided to use the Line 6 LD. And I'm not a Line 6 fan either

I'm a big fan of Trace Gear too (not the newer stuff though). What worries me is that I'm seeing various comments about how they've moved on because it's like lugging an elephant around...I bought mine because I was after something more transportable and easier on the back To be fair, I did previously own an Acoustic 470 and a Paulman Battleship 4x10 (50kg!!) I get what people are saying about always tweaking though, I find that once I've got a setting I'm happy leaving it there, I let someone use it once and they p*ssed about with it, and I now can't find that setting I had The TE / Warwick combo does seem to work well though...as does the TE / Wal and TE / Howjiwatermercallit combo It's a bit weird just coming out of the blue and saying you hate TE gear and expect everyone to agree with you. I don't like MarkBass, Ashdown and Ampeg...big deal

Is it possible to use it on mains whilst the battery is still in? Most of the time I'm going to want it permanently powered, but there will be times when I'm going to be wanting / needing to quickly just lift it off the pedal board and drop it in my gig bag.

Lots of bubble wrap and cardboard. When I sent PaulS a bass uncased, I got the box from our LCD TV (the stronger the better), wrapped it as tightly as possible so the bass wouldn't have space to move about. The neck was then wrapped in bubble wrap to support it (don't detune it either), and the box was stuffed with void fill. Sealed that box, then formed another box around it and as Paul worded it in my feedback, it was something along the lines of "It was packed to withstand a direct hit from a cruise missile).

It comes out at 11lbs, and that goes up to 20 when I put it in the leather gig bag. Funny thing is, the 6er weighs about 9 lbs!

I don't ever recall it having that lever, unless previous owner managed to break it off so I was completely oblivious to it
