1. Depends on the gig and bass really. If I don't have to worry about passengers in the car, one bass goes in a hard case in the boot with the rig (hiscox), then the gig bag goes in the front passenger seat. Last show I did my rig stayed there for the week, so used gig bag and hard case. I'll probably get another Hiscox at some point though.
2. Either way, I'm gunna go
3. Last year was my first one, went for a look as my teacher kinda dragged me along, but I got there 2 and a half hours before him He dropped me in it at one point on the Shuker stand by going "you'll like this" and passing it to me. I ended up sat there for around half an hour trying out various toys Then I wandered over to Promenade music and spent around half an hour with a Marleaux Soprano Bass
4. Oh yeah and a nice little touch is there's two velcro'd bits of leather which fold out and protects your body from the buckles that attach the straps to the bag
5.
Isn't leather heavier than whatever the non-leather gig bags are made of? Surely lighter is going to be more comfortable to wear?
Yeah leather's pretty heavy, but if the straps sit right it's not an issue, before I got my leather Warwick bag, I had a premium Warwick rockbag and it got uncomforatble after a while as the straps were a bit crap, but the new ones are fantastic, and there's also zip compartments where you can take them off and store them away. One thing I have realised is that my ash Corvette in the leather bag is heavier than the bubinga Corvette in a Hiscox! It also fits my 6'er which has a pretty long Jim Cairnes neck and headstock, but I'll put a tape measure on it for you Either way, I'd highly recommend a leather gig bag over anything else, as you're basically buying a bag for life. A good way to look at it is look at two idential cars of the same age and mileage, but one with cloth interior, the other with leather. The leather will always be in a better condition
6. Fretless Warwick Corvette with a 3 band John East
7. My Warwick WCA211 pro packs quite a bit more beef than I expected. They can be picked up for not a lot of money too Handles my active 6 with no probs at all, the 1x15 underneath gives a proper kick in the spine though. It's not a standard 200watt 1153
8. Depends on the hardcase, on the link you posted there's actually a brand called hardcase. They're actually a plastic sort of material, really strong and quite light. I know a couple of people who use them and have taken them all over the world. Personally I'd go for a rack, I'm in the process of getting my Trace into a rack case, just need to sort some ears for it.
9. Sorted it out now Went for 45- 100 Hi Beams from Bass Direct.
10. Cheers for that Looks like I'm going to be going for Hi Beams. Just need to decide on gauge. The Rotos are 40 - 100, but I've always found it harder to double click on the Warwick, but the E and A sound great. Wal has 45 - 105 on, and I have no problem double clicking there (could be down to the bass), but don't like slapping the E and A. Can you get them in a hybrid gauge? Something like 45 - 100. Or am I just being picky?
11. Yeah that sounds pretty good. I could do with a cover for my top cab and a replacement for the head, but i'm going to wait until I know what I'm doing with the head, as I'm looking at racking it.
12. Cool, you can stand them up, put it that way
13. So to cut it short, I need a new set. Want to get away from Rotos as I don't like the feel or life of them. Been looking at DR, but I don't know whether I should go for Lo Riders or Hi Beams. The bass is an active Warwick Corvette and it's one that has to do a bit of everything, a lot of slap but a lot of finger work to. I don't play with a pick. So really, what would people suggest is better for the job? £30 is a lot to cock up on strings when you're a student!
14. Can't fault it. I didn't know my dad had bought anything from them until they turned up in the post, and when he got home his words were "blimey that was quick!" We've got a mic stand bag too which is just as good, only downfall is that the zip's gone, but you can't exactly blame a zip on them, and it doesn't affect the rest of the bag My dad's got a roqsolid on his Mesa Boogie DC5 combo (also a guitarist) and they're not as plasticy as they look in the pictures, but they're not to everyone's taste.
15. When I saw you weren't using yours I thought you were going to offer them me for a split moment But yeah as for pics / drawings / measurements, that would be brilliant thanks
16.
Maybe link him to this thread? If you Google "Silverstone Amp Covers" there's 4 complaint threads from different sites on the first page, including this one. I'm not sure how this guy is still in business, no way i'd ever buy anything from him no matter how nice his covers are. Btw there's also this company that makes cabinet covers, never used them but there's an eBay shop and a really bad website. Seems good quality and if he rips you off i can go and shout at him as it's just down the road from me! It's based in Fleetwood, Lancashire. http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/bacsew/?_trksid=p4340.l2559 http://bacsew.co.uk/default.aspx I'm thinking of getting a quote for my EA cab (i want a cover with a velcro top and shoulder strap), if i go ahead with it i'll post my experiences here.
Ahh we've got some of them to cover our EV speakers. They're top quality!
17. I use D'Addario ECB80 XL Chromes, 95 - 40. Recently swapped (just over a week) from Olympias and these are miles better. The tone just cuts through like a hot knife through warm butter
18. Yeah you can get 6 string sets of DR. Bet they're expensive though! When I need to restring the 6 I'll probs put a set of Hi Beams on.
19. I find that the Warwick Black Label my 6'er came with are quite nice and do a pretty good job. I've not really tried other stuff, on my old 5 I had D'addarios which I found were slightly weedy. Take a look at DR too though, they're often really good
20. Imagine turning up to a dealer with it I've met someone who moves it around in his Jag XK. Therefore, put your mind to it, it'll go in anything
21. I have gone to the bar during a drum solo once, got a drink and packet of crisps, and had finished the crisps and was half way through the drink by the time he'd finished
22. Stop giving me ideas. More ideas than money going on here I've found a flaw with having the draw in the back saving space too. Because if I put it in the back, it means I can downsize the case to 3 unit, but if I've already got a 2unit powerblock in the back and then put a draw in the back too...I won't be able to get my hand in to plug in speaker cables / turn the head on etc The wine rack is highly tempting though! The heat from the amp will keep some good bottles of red at the right temperature, and it's well known that a lot of bassists tend to drink red wine
23. Genius!
24. If the original question was unsuccessful that would've been my next question I'm fed up of fiddling around with covers, so I fancy the idea of racking the head in a 4u rack case, then have a strip light of some sort on one of the slots in the case, and then either a vent panel or a draw where I can keep stuff like the speaker leads, spare strings, small tool kit and batteries. Then on the back I'd have one of them rack mount power stations (rack mount glorified extention lead?) so I can power the light and amp from one switch, and have spare power for other things if I need it
25. I've got two Warwicks, picked up the fretless for around £350 3 or 4 years ago, spent another £150 on a 3 band John East system recently. For the same money I picked up my fretted one for £500 already fitted with it's East preamp, although only a 2 band. To be honest I wouldn't swap them for anything else As far as values are concerned, they're not selling for what they're worth. Great if you're buying, not so great if selling, that said if you pay the right price, they'll easily repay you when you sell on. They do appear to be ever so slightly creeping up again. If you buy a used Warwick, if it's what you want then it's one of the best investments you'll get. Buy a brand new one, you may as well reply to one of them "congratulations you have won £X, just give us all your bank details"
