1. I use Musicguard They offer great cover with all sorts off optional extras! perfect for my circumstances
2. Well i ordered the nordy big splits yesterday! the plan is to change the pre once i can afford it Im sure it'll be an improvement over the bart humbuckers
3. Hi Sorry for lack of info They are soapbar style pickups as found in all standard Lakland 5501 basses. Other than that and this link to a pic of them i dont know much more http://www.lilypix.com/photos/data/3295c76.../434_p26979.jpg (pic from web) There are no exposed pole peices so string spacing shouldnt be an issue but if it helps the spacing on the bass they're coming out of is 19mm Cheers
4. Hey Just ordered replacement pickups for my Lakland 5501 so wont be needing these any more (available from monday 28th) Measurements are: 107.5mm length, 33mm width, 21mm depth (into the body of the bass) Also on the bottom they read : MK1-5R and MK-1 5ST F Anyone interested at [s]£80[/s] (reduced to) £60 posted? Cheers Chris
5. Hey Really happy with the playability and feel of the lakland 5501 i bought recently i just want to get a more punchy (sadowsky like) sound from it. Im thinking of replacing the Bart Mk1's with Nordy's! Do you think these pickups will help to get me closer to the super jazz sound? If so which would you suggest?? Cheers
6.
Im not saying anything
hehe just out of interest doesn't the 5 cover all that the 4 can do and more? im heading down this route soon so wondering if im missing something ?
7. Im making the change to 5's as well at the moment To me there's nothing worse than battling with a shabby B string!! puts you off right from the start but once you find one you like it makes sooooo much more sense! I find the idea of playing both 5's and 4's a bit daft really!! especially the idea of having the same bass in 5 and 4 string version!! odd!! lol so for me its either one or the other hence the sale of my 4's
8. Tuning to BEAD means i dont have a G string which is just as bad as not having the B in the first place lol
9. not sure why this didnt sell before but i have some serious bass related plans and sadly this needs to go to make way for a five string version!! also brand new generic Peavey moulded hard case available with the bass
10. When I bought my Sadowsky they used fedex and the service was great!! cost about $200 and was here in a few days My Big Al arrived with UPS and was just as fast for the same money! I'd be happy to use either
11. What an amazing bass!!! How long did the process take from order to delivery??

14. Hey Good weekend so far?? Got hold of a used Lakland 5501 i really didnt know what to expect from a 5 string at this price point but to be honest im blown away by it!! its the first 5 ive played that feels like its meant to be a 5 and not just a 4 string design with the added B string as an after thought! Ive adjusted remarkably well to the extra string on this particular bass mainly because it sounds as good as the other strings and i dont have to change the way i play when on the B!! i have the first rehearsal with a new function band tomorrow which is why i got the 5 in the first place! fingers crossed it will sound as good live as it does through the studio monitors if all goes well i can see a complete conversion to 5 string basses!! very exciting!! Any more happy 5501 owners out there??
15. replied to PM's and New pics added!! also dont be afraid to make an offer, ya never know
16. Any Lakland 5502's or DJ5's out there? Or cash offers somewhere close to my asking price?
17. Get your Lakland 5's out!! Updated trade options
18.
Have you not bonded with the Big Al like you expected?
I love it!! Amazing bass, kinda using the last one in, first one out rule lol I certainly wont worry if ut doesnt sell
19.
I really, really hate these stupid threads. I just don't see the point in them. Excuse me, but a guitar is tuned higher than a bass. How could a guitarist cover what you'd play on a standard 5 string bass ? I generally play low E at the 5th fret on the B string. I don't like moving down the neck to play F, F#,G,G# etc, so I play them at the 6th fret and upwards, it saves moving about. A 5 string bass is brilliant if you're reading a chart on a gig, you haven't got to move about so much, so you can play pretty much in one position and follow the chart. In other words I play across the neck, rather than up and down it. One band that I dep for plays a lot of songs where the bass line was originally played on keys, Chaka Khan's 'Aint nobody' for example, try playing that on a 4 string bass without a lot of messing about. It wouldn't work played up an octave either !
Im glad you mentioned 'Aint nobody' ive tried to it learn on a 4 and it just aint working!! Hence the search for a decent 5 string for the new function band! A lot of the songs ive been asked to learn go lower than a 4, if i want the job i need the right tools, can anyone recommend good 5's below £1000???
20.
Hi do you have a sale price for your Big Al?
Really not sure on a price to be honest?? Enough to buy me a used sadowsky 5 string?? Lol By the way the big al is in as new condition, never gigged and comes with original fitted hard case etc
21. Thanks for the offer mate, i'd prefer a jazz or P/J style 5 though
