1. unless you request a solid body all NYC's are chambered
2. i think we all have way too much time on our hands! im off to actually play bass for a change
3. Every sadowsky ive owned (4 in total) i bought without trying them first! Just reading about how well made they are, the customer service, the sounds ive heard online, the fact that his fret work is some of the best around etc inspired me and gave me the confidence to just go for it! Maybe im mental!! Maybe im lucky?!? But every one ive had has been excellent and the more i play them the more i "get it" i understand why they work for a lot of people ive honestly never looked back Couldnt be happier
4. Basses are sh*t anyway!! Im joining Kazoochat!!
5.
Went to GuitarGuitar Birmingham a few weeks ago, tried one of the Sadowskys. Can't remember what model 5 string Jazz) it was but it was about £2500. It was a nice bass, but didn't blow me away at all - seemed very expensive for what it was. I'm sure I'd need to play it through my own rig to fully appreciate it but - I wouldn't ever consider one.
You could probably get that same bass for around £1100-£1200 second hand im sure that would be more appealing Try not to focus on the new retail prices There arent many basses i'd buy new at the moment, i find most seem over priced for one reason or another The second hand market opens up a whole new set of options all of us! For £1000 i could either buy a brand new fender (or any other similar priced bass) or a used Sadowsky, for me personally the sadowsky makes more sense, but thats me I was lucky enough to buy my NYC at a time when the exchange rate was in my favour, which enabled me to get a great deal compared to todays prices! (i paid £2000, today it would be more like £2700)
6. ............ i like Sadowsky's more than you do!! :brow:
7. Im finding this thread rather entertaining I love some good old banter At the end of the day folks try before you buy and only buy what YOU like be it a £100 squire or a £6000 Fodera, who cares? What matters is that you find something that inspires you to play
8. How could i ever be upset about being lucky enough to own what i consider to be absolutely cracking basses!?! I couldn't give a monkey's what anyone else thinks! im happy! If they're not for you dont waste your time trying to tell others how they're not worth it etc If you love something your naturally gonna spread the word about it right?? just in case even the smallest percentage of fellow players agree with you and find their perfect instrument

10. Getting everyone to agree on sound is like trying to get everyone to like the same food or drink, everyone's tastes are different, thats why we have so many options Imagine a food chat forum full of people arguing about marmite! Anyway......... I find that these days i very rarely play my bass without the band so how it sounds in the mix is very important, it just so happens that of all the basses ive owned (too many to mention) my Sadowsky's are the best ive come accross at cutting through the mix and giving me a great range of sounds. To me there is something about them that just sounds great in a live setting. Im happy with them, and im sure your happy with whatever great bass you own
11. Ive just been speaking to roger about the mass production issue etc He read this thread and gave me these figures Average NYC production is 15-20 basses a month. Average Metro production is 40 basses a month, worldwide. We have 7 builders in the NY workshop. I bet fender do that in a day!! Lol
12. Proper jazz basses to me have to be passive with single coils! You cant get that sound any other way!
13.
Overpriced Jazz copy. For the price i'd want something a bit more original than that,no matter how good the fit and finish is.
If everyone were actually copying fender jazz basses there'd be an awful lot of dodgy ones out there
14.
This may have been because you just didnt like the feel of a Sadowsky...that doesnt mean anything, apart from you didnt like it...doesnt mean that Sadowsky doesnt carry much weight...Ok you may be able to get a Sei or a Wal for the same money but i f you dont like those two there prob gonna feel rubbish in your eyes also.. Jazzes are so different from one maker to the next..To me my Fender CS is the best jazz bass ive played but it dont mean nothing to anyone else... i am also confused as to why you can get a Skyline for so much less than you can get a Metro...i know what i would buy...
+1 You dont have to like them They're not for everyone For me they have the perfect balance of everything i want out of an instrument and more!! im just so glad i bought my NYC from roger when i did! With the current exchange rate i cant afford a new one!! Not yet anyway
15.
Jees guys calm it! Dont get so defensive! We all chase the same thing on here I personally think at those prices, you are best off with a Sei, or an Alleva. Without a doubt. The NYCs arent everywhere here, but they are in the USA. I dont see, despite the fact I dont like how Lakland finish off their basses, why their is such a price difference on a fairly mass produced Metro cf to a Lakland Skyline. All made elsewhere then checked and fitted in the USA. Not a problem with that, but I dont see why they cost so much?! I wouldnt mind, but when I emailed them a fair while back, I felt slightly miffed at the somewhat sharp and slightly off responses. Made me realised If I had a problem with one once Id bought it, Id not feel happy complaining.
Its gonna be interesting to see what happens to the opinion on Alleva's now Jimmy is using his new cnc machine for everything!
16.
I think they make Lakland Skylines in either groups of 30 or 60 according to the last time I asked them. Might be more now. Kevin seemed fine, it was Roger who seemed rather, hmm, I wont say anything rude.
It may have been the old Lakland factory but im sure i remember reading something similar somewhere but it was 30 - 60 of each model, they'd then have stock for each of the colour options plus 5 strings etc How many models do they have? (i could be and will most likely be wrong)
17. I'd love to know how many metro's / laklands are made... I know that the New York shop makes around 20 basses per month so its pretty small scale really! You must have caught Kevin at a bad / busy time in the sadowsky office, ive had nothing but great service over the last few years and i always get helpful replies to my questions.
18. Yeh the only two in the country! Watch out everyone there's NYC's Everywhere!!
19. Its laughable that after 60 years of practice fender still produce absolute dogs sometimes!
20. I also find the production bass comment interesting, how else would you like the bass to be produced?? The fact that all wood is hand selected by Roger Sadowky and sent to some of the best people in the busines to be CNC'd ensures that your getting the very best end product thats put together by highly skilled craftsmen! They're not just parts bought in and thrown together, even if they were the end product speaks for its self, pick one up and play it, the sound may not be for everyone but you cant argue with the quality and accuracy of construction
21. I reckon the only way i'd buy another NYC is either direct from Sadowsky or second hand I'd say the only way to buy a metro is to get a used one! Much better value for money for around £1000 Lets not forget how much the exchange rate affects these inflated prices!
22. Yeh way way too expensive! Just thought it was interesting to see NYC's for sale over here
