I made a rather rash and impulsive purchase a couple of days ago; I was in a shop in Leeds trying out different basses, and after playing many Fenders, Sandbergs and an Ibanez ATK I picked up a Stingray. I've never played one before (I did have a cheap copy as my first bass, but that was terrible) and I was blown away by the feel, sound, articulation, build quality and, most of all, the range of tones available from that one pickup! It can be tight and snappy or warm and loose, simply depending on where you place your right hand, but it always maintains that incredible growl. Then add in the EQ and there's such a massive range of tones there. Also, the neck is quite fat, but so comfortable and fast - it just fills the hand beautifully. I hadn't planned on buying a bass that day... but well, it had to be done. I tried out 5 of them, including a five string, and a Sterling (which I didn't really like the feel of - the body was too small for me), and I picked my favourite. After thinking that they were overpriced (as they look quite a 'simple' bass when compared with others in their price range), I am now a complete convert! Anyway, sorry about the terrible iphone photo - a friend has my camera at the moment.
Nice looking bass mate Im guessing you were in PMT leeds?? (love the name by the way, big monkey island fan here haha)
You could help out your home life by modifying the tone of the P5 with a preamp and/or pickup replacement? Bartolini, Fralin and Delano would greatly improve the tone.
She's fine with it, not causing any trouble at home mate Tried pre amps and all sorts but i think im a jazz bass man at heart Its a shame i know

Morning Im looking Into selling / trading my Fender P5 This is quite difficult for me as it was an engagement present from my other half Trouble is i just cant get the P bass sound to work for me or the band and after talkin about it the mrs agrees that it would be better to have something i use a lot more Pics can be seen here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=engagement For anyone that's interested i have a few options.... So here comes the interesting part..... I could just sell the P bass..... SOLD!! (oly white, rosewood board, excellent ungigged condition with case + candy etc) Or i could trade + cash for a 4 string Sadowsky metro..... Option number three would involve me looking for a sadowsky NYC and offering both the P5 and my current Sadowsky Metro as trades against it... If you have a metro or an NYC lets talk and work out a deal Pics to follow should there be interest in these or similar options Cheers Chris 07974 317 284
Selling the P5 your fiance gave you for your wedding (IIRC) is a dangerous game! On topic: the LG5 looks fabulous in the BassDirect pics. If it plays as well as my Willie Weeks it is undoubtedly a wonderful bass
Shhhhhhhhh She wont notice!!! Haha I think i'd have to talk her round somewhat lol
Here are a few pics of the new one, with the black PG on it. I need to get a new one as i filed this down to fit the old bass so it looks a bit of a mess close up. To be honest im getting used to it now and i really like the look of the black and maple. Its more the gap thats bugging me now. I guess with the body being black its not as noticeable from a distance. Still waiting to hear back from the shop but i have a feeling i might keep this one.
Personally i'd ask for my money back!! Paying all that for a bass thats just thrown together like that is ridiculous!! I know i wouldn't stand for it! you'd be better off forgetting about fender and trying a real bass!! second hand Sadowsky's are pretty much the same price, give or take a few (hundred) quid and the build quality is a million miles better!! plus the customer support you get from the man himself is second to none!! (sorry if everyone's bored of me banging on about Sadowsky's) -
hey when using an active bass ive never had the input volume past past 12 o clock without the clip light lighting up Passive basses will obviously be different and allow for more input gain is it ok when you bring it down a bit and push the master volume up to compensate?
If I were Sterling Ball, I'd only ever post something positive in a "News" section of the board. Stuff like; New product releases Endorsee news Charity work Factory news Employee (or sycophant) of the month I'd leave "brand defence" to my legion of fanboys, and have a tech-guru to answer those questions of a technical nature, and I'd emerge smelling of roses.
+1

Evening all as some of you may know im wanting to get one of my basses resprayed so i could do with some cash. Up for sale today is my awesome Markbass LMK I bought it from here about a month or two back as a back up to my LMIII but as im now well insured and in need of extra cash i thought i'd let it go The amp is really versatile especially for those who use a few basses or different sounds live. you can set up your main sound on one channel and have a slap sound on the other!
