1. These are some of my favourite fenders! The japanese build quality is great!
2. Hold your horses gents! We've used wizard pickups in all our instruments so far. Great pickups! Since he retired we have been using Catswhisker pickups which are just as good!! Allan at Catswhisker is fantastic to deal with and also is more open to custom options! Also supporting a small british business is always a good option! I've had word from andy at wizard recently that some lucky chap bought all his stock / specs etc and expects this new fella to start up making pickups in April! Keep your eyes peeled! I'll post more info if / when i come across it Cheers Chris Alpher instruments
3.
So, I'm building a bass with an onboard Super Hardon clone. I have all the parts for the SHO, and will sort the rest of the electronics soon. Problem is, it turns out the 'top' of the control cavity is quite thick (rear rout), and that means the 5k rev log pot I got for the SHO won't be usable as it's not long enough! So my questions to you are these: is there such a thing as a long thread 5k rev log and if so where I can I get one? And would it likely cause structural issues if I just route/drill out the area (to make the top shallower) so the current pot will go in?
You should be ok to route / drill out the area around the holes to leave about 1/4 of an inch. Most pots should fit through then
4. One piece swamp ash body

Good idea Here is the top wood i've picked out for this bass
6. Hey guys!! As always finalising the spec for a stock build is always a challenge! There are too many options I may end up building two basses along side each other then put it to a vote! That way you can decide which one goes on tour first haha I will uploads photos of the body and top wood soon Neck and fingerboard pics to follow once they arrive
7. Nice! I've always liked Yamaha basses!
8. Over the years i've met loads of basschat members All have been cracking chaps! I hope to meet many more in the future!
9. Hey everyone! I think i have the spec for this finalised 4 string One piece swamp ash body Crotch english walnut top Birdseye maple neck Cocobolo fingerboard JJ pickups 2 band active preamp All hipshot hardware Expected to be around 8lbs in weight. i will post photos next week to show you all
10.
I totally understand that they make pickups in all the sizes that sell best, but it really messes with my pseudo-OCD! Take EMG for example. I like their blade design active pickups such as the DC soap bar - but, I've a crazy pang to have an MM pickup put in one of my bass guitars that has a pair of DCs in already. My problem is that none of their MM pickups are the same size (length) as the DCs. Once installed, they will look untidy and unmatched. Delano again do a range of really nice pickups and I have a pair of SBC 'driver' soap bars in another bass that are the Bart P2 size. Again, looking at that bass instead - and having a pang for an MM sound - none of the MM size pickups they make as standard are the same length as the available soap bars. Am i too fussy?? I just like all my pickups to look even you see. Not too much to ask! I'd love to have custom pickups made, sure, but the one-off tooling would be costly. Thoughts?
Custom is the way forward. Allan at cats whisker pickups should be able to help you with all your custom requirements. Amazing quality and great prices
11.
I had a reply to a question I asked on Alpha's website. They used Wizards custom pups on their basses and now that Wizard are no more, I wanted to know who's pups they would use in the future. They replied ( Ta for that) that they are having their pups wound by Cats Whiskers in the future. I've not heard of these guys before. I've had a look at their website and they look good but has anyone on here got any experience of them. How do they compare to Wizard, Kent Armstrong and etc? I'm asking because I'm upgrading my niece's bass for her and wondered if they might be good replacements on her P bass.
Hey Allan at Catswhisker pickups is a very talented chap! He has never failed to meet and most of the the time exceed our expectations, even on the more complex and custom orders! He can make absolutely anything you can think of and does it all at great prices From our experience they are some of the best available. I'm sure allan would be happy to talk about your requirements Best of luck Chris Alpher
12. I tried a few recently and really found it hard to adjust, Especially on a 5 string! All that meat behind the thicker strings just made the neck feel HUGE! Personally, i'm not a fan at all.
13.
Hi Guys n Girls, I'm new to Basschat and I wanted to ask the forum members about the price of a Sadowsky Metro M5 I have seen. I am considering one of these basses. I have seen one in Manchester Bass Lounge.co.uk. It's in Black and it's described as Mint Unplayed. I have rang them and have just dropped the price to £1595 which is £1000 off RRP. I don't know much about Sadowsky and they seem very scarce in the UK, do members reckon that's a good price?
I spent 4+ hours at the bass lounge yesterday! (We were having our Alpher bass reviewed by BGM) I tried almost every bass in there, including the Sadowsky in question! First impressions were excellent!! Nice, light weight, great feel and action. For that money it would be high on my list!! I have had many sadowsky basses and this one is a great example!
14.
This is a stupid price for a beautiful Bass. Played one of these at Chris's, First class workman ship .someone is going to be very happy with this,
Thank you Richard! I have to say that we really miss this bass!
15. I still want to try a Fodera! I only ever got chance to try the NYC range!
16. Please check out the new bass at manchester bass lounge!! http://manchesterbasslounge.com/?p=4845 I'd love to hear from anyone who gets a chance to demo it next time they're hanging out in drew's lovely show room!
17. My first guess would be rotosound swing bass. Could be wrong though

19.
I think wood gives a "voice" to the instrument. Pickups, preamp , amp , room and so and so are will just bear how this voice will be transfered , and how it will be perceived. But even when on the phone with a friend , they still recognise your voice even through the smallest unit. If you speak in a stadium people who know you will recognise your voice , even with that huge reverb , and with any mic , they still will be able to say who's talking. That's what tonewood is about , giving a "vocal identity" to the instrument.
That's a great way to explain it
20. I have a pro photoshoot booked for this bass on saturday so i will upload the shots for you here once i get them
