Quick update!! Here is a quick photo of the crotch walnut top for the on tour bass! let me know what you think And this is the body wood Hi I've had an idea (just cleared it with Ped) Next year i will be looking to make a bass for all you basschatters to try out there in the real world! The idea is that we compile a list of people wanting to try the bass, work out the best route then we start the tour by shipping it to the first person. Each member of the group simply keeps all the packaging and ships it to the next person after they've had their week (or whatever amount of time we decide works best) Every month or so we would have it sent back to our workshop where we can change strings, check setup etc so everyone gets the best possible experience! Please let me know if you would be interested in this idea i would love to hear all feedback and please feel free to suggest anything useful you can think of There are links to facebook in my signature for those not familiar with our work and there are also a few build diaries on here NEW PICS!!! Cheers Chris

Neil, i will happily install an east pre for you if you like? We use his preamps exclusively in our basses so you could give one of those a try to see if you like the sound? Just an idea -
So this didn't quite happen due to a problem with the finish on the bass...But I have been sent some pictures from Mr Shuker - All it's waiting for is the pickups, and I should be collecting it next week, in time for my next contract! Yippee!!
Very nice!! Love the colour combo!
I'd love to do that too. I would love to be proven wrong.
Well if every basschat member interested, invested a few quid in the interest of science i could make it happen! haha We could have a bass raffle!! Haha In all seriousness though we could put these together in the workshop and once finished, record them both on video and on logic / mac to try and come to some kind of conclusion
Yup, I staying well out of it this time around.
I have really enjoyed reading all this! I would love to build two near identical instruments with bodies / necks etc cut from the same lumber!! It would be a fantastic way to show how much difference a fingerboard makes! If / when i have time i'll make a start on them!
You need another set up. Joey's Bass Notes is very useful if you fancy giving it a go yourself.
What he said! Haha

Another setup should do the trick. There are lots of great setup guides on the internet. It will be very useful for you to learn these skills and it will save you money. Sometimes just a quick tweak of the truss rod can transform the playabilty

Well the 22nd would be great if we weren't doing the leeds guitar show that day!! So not only am i missing my good friend's debut gig with the bass i'm making him but i'm missing bass related beer and banter!! Dam it!! Haha There will be other days! I would be up for getting involved in future drinks and actual bash related organisation so i will try and stay up to date with things here. I can bring some of our Alpher basses a Valenti 5 string, 2 barefaced cabs and a markbass lm3

Even the best luthiers have their off-days...
CHRISDABASS replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
The worst part for me was when jimmy said he would take the bass back, respray the body and then it would increase in value.... I think he's lost it! -

This is awful! Really sad to see! I would be flying out to the shop to take it back and sort it out directly! I'm only on page 7 of the talkbass thread......i hope it gets resolved!
