Would you be able to tell me the distance between the centres of the screw holes? I am looking for a set of these exact pick-ups in American Standard sizing as I bought some a few weeks back and they were the smaller pick-ups for the euro/Asian fit and don't fit the body I was planning on putting them in. Many thanks

I ordered a cover for my Barefaced Super 12 on the 23rd December and it arrived today on the 5th January. Well haqppy with it - slots in all the right places (3 handles, 1 offset and wheels) plus I added the optional strap and board pocket. It all looks pukka!
I was in a fight in LA with a certain ginger haired singer who was in an obscure band with some top-hatted guitarist from Stoke.
I hope you twatted him in the Adam's apple for me! HARD! My tenuous links: There is some rumour that my Missus is related to Lemmy through her Gran (sister or cousin we think) but we have no empirical evidence to back that up. That's Lemmy not Limmy! The guitarist from my last band plays in a beatles tribute that have played with Dodgy and the drummer from Dodgy liked them so much he stood in for the drummer a few weeks later when he went on holiday. A singer from an older band supported Paul Diannos (sp?), ex of Iron Maiden, punk band at a local boozer Andy Scott from the Sweet lives locally and he quite often plays at the local carnivals rock night Moose Harris from New Model Army lived locally and I'm not 100% sure he didn't used to be a couple of years above me at school I met Dave Mustaine, Dave Ellefson (good blokes) and Marty Friedman (egotistical cock)and at the same gig met Alice in Chains on their first tour in the UK and Ricky Warwick I've shaken hands with the guys from Therapy? and Defenestration (where are they now) I've served Norris McWerter in a local supermarket and met Ian Holm (Alien, Borrowers, Fifth Element, etc, etc) and his missus at the time (the bird from ever decreasing circles) I've seen Eve Vorley of 1990's Sunday Sport fame with her babylons out I'm sure there are some more including one involving the son of the reverand that wrote Thomas the Tank Engine but we'll leave that for another day
Thanks to a heads up by EBS_freak, we believe there's a scammer operating on the forum who has been active on other non-bass related forums as well. He has sent the following message: My name is Chris Corner from Madrid Spain...I am contacting you regarding your advert you place on website that you are looking for the above subject...I have it in very good condition and if still interested,Let me know and i will forward you details of the item and i will also need your shipping address and telephone number to calculate the shipping cost to your destination. My mode of payment is Via Paypal,Western union,MoneyGram..Bank wire transfer..Let me know which method you prefer and i ship the next day after payment has been receive..My phone number is +33424029617..Feel free to call me anytime for further discussion or email me back at thanks and hope to hear from you soon. We're only aware of one user account which has been shut down but if you receive a PM from anyone offering stuff and asking for payment via any non secure international payment methods eg. Western Union, Moneygram etc. please let a Mod know. cheers Steve
I've had the exact same message from a cc25corner in response to a wanted thread. However I would automatically steer clear of anything that first off didn't state what it was they were trying to sell (generic copy and paste meesage) and secondly asked you to pay by western union or similar (payment media of the scammer/terriorist scum variety)

I like Yamaha - they make good kit for the money. I like the look of the RBX 5A2 as well but the money starts going up then and I think I could then get one of the new Epi T-birds with the neck thru contstruction - I guess I'll have to try some. I may not be in quite such a rush yet anyway as our singer didn't turn up for rehearsal tonight and it has caused a bit of upset (especially with me because I was about to order my barefaced cab tonight).
I had one of these as my first "real" 5 string. It almost put me off 5 string for life. I found the neck to be too wide and i didnt get a P tone (obviously). I only played it at home but just couldnt get on with it. Its the only 5 string bass ive had trouble playing. I would go with Col's idea and have a look around at something nicer, or at least try the Squier alongside other basses. IMO of course.
That probably explains why they no longer sell it then, okay thanks guys

Thanks for the pointers Col! Looking at your kit list it seems like you should have the experience to comment - that's quite a list! The one I'm looking at has the Agathis body. Model Name P Bass® Special V (5-String) Model Number 032-1505 I think the 5 string is now a discontinued model and I haven't been able to find a UK shop with one in stock online (but then internet search engines aren't what they used to be!). I have however found some in stock elswhere. I've just missed out on the oppurtunity to try and buy 2 from different sources locally 2nd hand for a good price both sold before I heard of them.

Has anyone tried the Squier 5 string precision - would it cut the mustard for regular gigging? Is there a better passive alternative for a similar cheaper price? I have a 4 string Fender P-bass and love the sound but I could do with that extra string to make up for the singers vocal range but I'm spending out big wedge (to me it is anyway) to get my rig sorted so I won't have much left in the kitty for a Fender 5 string Precision (chance would be a fine thing). Sometimes I've heard Squiers and they don't sound too dissimilar - is it worth me looking into getting one or should I just pocket the money?

The John East P-Retro: P-Retro I saw an article on it in this months Bass magazine. There's also a thread here about it, in which John East himself is contrbuting. What do you think? It sounds like a nifty little mod to me!
I wouldn't recommend that as a way of objectively comparing amps! Even if both clips were recorded properly under similar conditions, what you actually hear will owe more to your PC speakers of headphones than any real differences between the amps! You need to try them out "in the flesh" - through the same cabinet and with the same bass if you want to do a meaningful comparison...
Don't worry I will try them out in the flesh first! It would be nice to try them out in a band environment first though - ah well here's to wishful thinking! LOL

I've been conversing with Alex from Barefaced cabs and I'm liking the sound of their super 12, does anyone have any experience of these that they would care to share? Alex has recommended me to try either an Orange Bass Terror or an Ashdown ABM 500 EVO III I've listened to them both on Youtube and think they both sound good but I think I prefer the sound of the ABM 500 just that little bit more, so I'm wondering what the consensus on either of these amps is? And thanks to everyone for the input so far it's much appreciated because it has highlighted brands I had forgotten about or not heard of previously!

So it sounds like the MB Marshalls can be fragile as I thought, but there are other people out there who agree that the classic tone is pretty darn good. I've not heard much from you folks on the Hartke kit I thought this gear was some of the more popular kit but I know from a couple of reputable chaps I used to work with this is good and will get me the sound I crave (rock sound with some valve warmth). I'm going to try a rig tomorrow but unfortunately they do not have any other hartke kit (different amp ranges/wattages) to compare it against. Only one comment on the Markbass kit? I would be prepared to stump up for one of these if I thought it could replace a whole rig (because of the price) but to me that seems like wishful thinking. A rig of this kit would be way out of my budget. I didn't think I'd be able to go all valve on the budget I've set myself but it seems some Marshall VBA 400s are on here and flea bay for a reasonable price and the MBC 412's can be found at a good price too should I consider these and the services of a good chiropractor? The price of a total valve replacement seems a bit pricey but do they need biased/paired valves? Is the Galien Kreuger Neo 1001 - 212 any good? Is this all SS? For further info several of the band members I have just joined have previously supported the likes of The Sweet and Innes Sibun at local rock events (usually played in a big marquee with full FOH for these shows) but we're planning pub gigs and more conventional functions too. At the moment I seem to be getting more ideas for what I could use rather than actually pinning down on something I could spend my hard earned wonger on. Can anyone recommend a music shop that has a good selection of these brands in stock? Marshall, Hatke, Gallien Kreuger and Markbass as I would like to try some head to head tests but every shop close to me or where I'm working only seem to have one manufacturers kit or a very limited selection.
