3. thinking about taking a punt on one of these for an upcoming project... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...E:X:AAQ:US:1123 my question to you guys is what do you think about that pickup position? looks a little far down to be in the sweet spot, though i guess that body shape would have a different one? is it dodgy, should i run for the hills?
4. what a bargain. shame they ignore us left handers
5. Who says you can't have both? Try a jazz with a jretro preamp, modern or vintage at the flick of a switch
6. Looks fantastic! What pickup did you choose? How does she sound?
7. The first thing you want to find out, is whether it was made for the Japanese domestic market or for export. I have an export 62 ri jazz, and whilst its a great bass and I love it, they are inferior to the non export models. For example, mine is made of basswood weras the non export ones are generally alder like the usa fenders. I'm really no expert, but that sounds expensive. A mint condition non export model might be worth that much, try and get some pics and post them here. There's some pretty knowledgeable bass geeks lurking about
8. welcome aboard
9. cheers. time to go lower the neighbours impedence by testing this sh*t out. luckily there is a wall buffer in the way
10.
Your amps both have valve pre-amp sections. Now that your bass is generating a much hotter signal, you may simply be over-loading the valves. Have you experimented with placing the distortion in an FX Send/Return?
haha very observant! im actually using a peavey firebass rig now which is all solid state
11. my current chain is bass - electro harmonix black finger (compressor) - digitech whammy - t-rex bass juice (distortion) ill try turning the volume down though, stupidly didnt think of that.
12. just gave my recently j-retro'd fender jazz a whirl at band practice. the bass sounds fantastic now, but my distortion is responding horribly to it. i'v read some stuff before about people having this problem, just wondering if you guys could suggest some workarounds. or am i just gonna have to rock out with a passive bass? perhaps there are specific distortion pedals that work better with active basses? cheers
13. stuck a jretro in my mij jazz. amazing product, and very intuitive. tempted to hotrod my westone thunder with a u retro now...
14. Have a bump, super rare lushness. Oh and you might want to post in the lefty market thread, stickied at the top of the forum
15. I'm looking at getting a pickguard custom made, this place looks pretty good http://www.auroraproject.co.uk/
16. Hmm ill be sticking mine on a Mightymite neck too so better measure it all. Thanks for the heads up
17. About to take a punt on some Wilkinson tuners for a project, just wondering what experiences you guys have had with their products? Is the price really too good to be true?
18. It's those lightweight basses that really gets my goat. You know, the ones with the short necks and 6 strings
19.
Hi all, newby here. I'm after a five string bass, lefty, lower range of the price bracket please! Anything about? Or any recommendations for models I should be looking at? Please send a Pm if you have anything, and use a large font size - I'm a drummer... Cheers, ears.
Hi stoko, what's your pricerange? After a quick Google your best 'cheap' options seems to be a peavey millennium or a warwick rockbass. If you can stretch a bit further though, you could get a 5 string gl l2000 tribute which is one hell of a bass !
20. Flipping aside still a good price, half of what you would pay for something new of similar quality.

23. I would advise to buy used gear. Might not be all shiny and conveniently delivered in one big box, but you will get a lot more for your money. Also if you do some research and choose carefully, your items should hold their value if you ever want to upgrade, weras reselling unknown starter gear like that would be difficult and you might take a bigger hit in your wallet. Hope this helps, best wishes
