This is a question that's been bugging me for a while. From an Eq perspective, where do bass frequencies end and low mid start, where does low mid end and high mid start and so on? My Trace 1210 has an Eq that is as follows: 30Hz - 40Hz - 60Hz - 100Hz - 130Hz - 340Hz - 660Hz - 1.3Khz - 2.6Khz - 5Khz - 10Khz - 15Khz so looking at those frequencies, where are the demarcation lines? Another question for you sound wizards: Thinking from the point of view that I'm now using a USA Jazz as my main bass, what would you boost/cut to get a nice mellow sound but with lots of thump that would cut through 2 guitarists and a loud drummer playing mainly rock? I'm thinking of switching out the pre-shape feature as I've seen a lot of talk of it being a mid scoop and that mids are my friend. You've probably guessed by now that I'm still not happy with my sound and if someone could give me a starting point I'd really appreciate it. Thanks guys Pete

Unfortunately I've never used the old Trace gear so I can't give you a comparison, however, I have the 1210 combo and think it's superb. The build quality is excellent, solid as a rock, which I think is a result of the Peavey influence and they've sorted out the problems they were having with the covering as well. Some BCers have said that they feel the eq sliders are a bit flimsy, I haven't had a problem with them but I haven't had it long so I guess time will tell. I find it very versatile, it can give you a whole raft of tones which can be easily selected by the footswitch, the eq is very sensitive so a bit of care is needed with it. The only complaint I have is the connection used on the footswitch, it's an interference fit Din connector which I've found is very susceptable to disconnecting if the footswitch is knocked heavily. I've got around this snag by careful routeing of the cable but it's not ideal. Anyway, sorry I couldn't give you a comparison but I hope this helps. Pete

Have Nordstrand given any reason for the delay? You've had a hell of a wait for them. Did Jon say how much the cases would be? Cheers Pete

Another one for you Hamster mate. http://www.roqsolid.co.uk/phpNuke/index.php for amp and cab covers. They also have an e-bay shop http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ROQSOLID-POWERCOVERS Cheers Pete -
Chris. Are you talking about the D'Addarios you got from me? If so then they are supposed to be 50 to 105, at least that's what they're supposed to be. 50-70-85-105
I use the super light size Elixirs, with a .125 B for the 5 string. Not to worry though matey, I just got a batch and judging by how long these strings last on my basses I won't be after any more for some time. Cheers anyway mate ;0) ped
No worries fella, just thought I'd offer. I should be going myself in March next year so I'll be getting myself a bucket load (check out the prices at 'Guitar center' they're amazing)
Cheers tinchap, unfortunately they don't have 'my' brand!
What are you after mate? I may be able to do something for you (within reason of course)

I get my stuff from this place now, after years of buying from stringsdirect. Can't seem to beat these prices.
Just a quick update. I spoke to Jon yesterday and he is still waiting for the hardware to finish it off. The pups are in and he says I might be able to collect it next week !!
That's great news John! I spoke to him on Tuesday, he said he was sorting yours out before he continued with mine. Looking forward to seeing you post pics of your finished item. CK, I don't suppose you saw anything covered in Buckeye lying around, did you?

Not to sound smug or anything but my good lady actively encourages me to satisfy my GAS, to the point where she tells me I've got GAS without me even knowing it (stealth GAS). Hence the reason I recently bought a Jazz when I wasn't aware I needed one. (Winner)

What about our very own OBBM's Bassic bits at http://www.bassic.co.uk/ -
Ordered one evening, made and posted the next day, received the next. Superb

Probably been done to death but here goes: Blame it on the boogie-The Jacksons, Play that funky music-Wild Cherry, Midnight hour-Wilson Pickett. Something I tried with a previous band was a funked up version of Feel like makin' love-Bad Company, never gigged it but it really grooves if you get the mood right. (Apologies if my suggestions are too obvious) Pete

All of my 'Forces base' gigs are like playing in a graveyard. No-one dances until the last 2 numbers and then they shout for more, by which time we've run out of material. We come off stage and get told we were fantastic to which we ask "where were you for the last 2 hours then?" in reply we get "I was talking to me mate" or "couldn't dance, I was holdin me pint" arse! It really gets on my wick when that happens. -
as well as teaching them to drive over 15mph!
I've been trying to teach them that for years. I'm an expat Geordie and it drives me nuts!

Hey Neighbour. Welcome. Unfortunately I know nothing of the jazz scene in the region. The best guy for that would probably be a nice fella called OutToPlayJazz, he's based somewhere near the Humber Bridge. Anyhoo, welcome friend, enjoy. Pete

I think you'll probably struggle to clean it properly without taking them off. What I tend to do is clean it when I put a new set of strings on. What sort of condition are your strings in?
although the case it came with, as far as I can see the same asymmetrical job that you have, is a load of rubbish. Poorly put together, and one of the clasps isn't even put on straight.
Yeah, you're right, the case is very badly put together, I really have to fight with it to get it closed.
Much better - tortie on sunburst looks just right.
I think so too, although the wife disagrees. (she should just stick to making me buy them)
My god i hope when im older my Wife makes me Buy Basses!!
Took me a while to find this one but I think they may have broken the mould
That is flippin' lovely!
Thanks Luke, I've never been a big fan of Fenders till I tried this but I love the way it plays and I think it looks superb.

All these pics coming through and none for me. Has mine floated away in the floods? Edit: The bass looks stunning John, sorry I meant to say so but I'm just have a grumpy jealous moment.

There now, that's much better. Tortoiseshell loveliness What do ya reckon to that then (ignoring, of course, any derogatory comments from the other member of my household)
There was a guy who advertised on BassChat who makes covers for cabs. They looked pretty good, but I couldn't begin to remember who it was. Sorry
No problem Dan. It's surprising that Hartke themselves don't do a more extensive range.

I guess that means someone is £770 poorer then.
