1. You've come to the right place for help and advice mate' I arrived in the same situation as you and have been taught stacks in the short space of time I've been here. There's a wealth of knowledge and experience on this site. Enjoy Pete
  2. I used to be able to as a kid, but now I just try and work stuff out by listening to it. If I get really stuck, I'll have a look at tab.
  3. A "Hitchhikers Guide......." fan perchance? Welcome. Pete
  4.
The nut width on a Precision means that I have to jump about - it makes the frets seem huge. I can't hold all four fingers down on a Precision neck first fret F-Ab on the E string, I just can't. Sorry.
I don't think you need to be apologising Paul , I for one am in the same situation as you and I'm sure there are many others that a P just doesn't suit.
  5. Looking real good Mike. Now I know what my birdseye board is going to look like and the LED's too. Smashing
  6. Looking stunning Dave, single cuts aren't normally my thing but that is a work of art.
  7. I used PA cabs (12" and 15") when I first started playing bass, awful! No definition, just a completely muddy mush. Didn't matter what I did with the EQ, I just couldn't get a good sound from them. IMO don't bother.
  8. Sorry mate, that just doesn't look right IMHO. Personally I'd go for something that matched the control plate. Just my thoughts you understand.
  9.
MB1. On a black fender precision.
Yes, yes, yes I know Lynott played a precision I just thought it might look good on something else. Always thinking you see.
  10. Mirrored from me my friend, I'm a bit of a Lynott fan and think that would look really good.
  11.
To be honest I was only there about 15 minutes, the traffic was dire and I arrived half an hour late, and had to get back. Also he was very busy sanding a bass down, so I didn't want to hold him up. There was not a lot there, I suspect he only brings a few in at a time because of the floods. I will be up there in about 3 weeks to pick mine up, so I will be happy to take photos etc then.
Thanks John. I'd really appreciate some photos of mine when you go back again, that would be brilliant. (if it's there of course) Also looking forward to seeing your finished item. Cheers Pete
  12. Did you happen to see anything of mine at all? 'Spect it hasn't really got anywhere since the last update but you never know.
  13. That is just brilliant. I always get the feeling that someone is getting annoyed when I play, now I know who.
  14. The guitarist in my last band does a similar thing with his SG (not quite as violently though) I must admit to being slightly peturbed by that video.

    Waiting
Well mines going to be 7 months in total....
Ah, I see your point and feel your pain. In all honesty, I'm not doing too bad with it. It's a deliberate effort to remain patient mind you, it certainly doesn't come naturally.

    Waiting
So im doomed for the next 2 months.
2 months? 2 months? pah! Mine won't be done till October/November time and yes, I would love to know of a cure as I'm going rapidly around the bend
  17. Lemon oil maybe? It works well for rosewood and ebony. Pete
  18.
Looking great Pete. Can't wait to see this one finished. Did you make the decision re. LED colour? Mine are going to be blue, but violet certainly sounded interesting.y you I'm still having communications difficulty with Jon. I seem to get through on the phone 1 time out of each 10 calls, and am getting no response over email. I'm aware he's had trouble though, of course, just recently, with the weather. Itching for pics though. Regards Mike
Cheers Mike I decided on blue LED's in the end, they seemed to be the most popular by consensus. I'm surprised by the lack of pics of your build, it could be that it's at a stage where pics aren't possible (at sims having LED work done possibly?) I feel your pain my friend, I just try to forget about it as much as is humanly possible (difficult though) Hope you hear something soon mate Pete
  19.
Still, I'd lost the link, good find, even if it's a bit useless outside of listing the brandnames and string composition, as the tone/feel is a bit subjective.
Good point but at least it gives you somewhere to start from. I've been driving myself crazy about which to use and only use D'Addarios because that's what I've always used on my guitars, I'm now thinking ghs boomers might be better for me.
  20.
Jon said to me typical turnaround is about 10/12 weeks once he's started a bass, but I reckon mine'll probably be a fair bit longer once he starts it. I can cope though You can't miss what you've never had
I think you may want to talk to johngh and OldGit on that score but like you say you don't miss it.
  21.
Did he say which Christmas?
Ha bloody ha, very funny!
  22.
He he yeah ... Good news, well if you are not in a hurry anyway
Contrary to my signature, I'm not too worried about how long it takes. I knew that 14 weeks was a very conservative guess when he said it. As long as I have it before xmas I'll be happy.
  23. Oh mate, she looks stunning! Not too long till you get your hands on her (jammy beggar)
  24.
Oh Yes When I asked Jon to get your stuff out for me to take some pics he said "Pete's bass? That's just a pile of sticks right now" The damp hasn't slowed him much, obviously ...
Doesn't seem to have mate. I guess you must have jogged his memory about mine (joke) Judging by the posts on here I'd say he has at least another 4 on the go since I went to see him, so he must be incredibly busy.
  25. Brilliant, thanks mate Pete
