2.
Just thinking, can't imagine it'd be all that much work/expense to make your own custom case. Think you can get a huge sheet of 9mm MDF from B&Q for about a tenner. Can't cost that much for a load of thick foam. Also, 2 square metres of cheap velvety material (bought for Little Bear's Red Riding Hood Costume) came to £6.50. Some paint or plastic material for the outside. Add some hardware for around £20 odd quid and you could get a pretty spot on case exactly to your specs for about £60 all in. The only problem is the labour which is always my sticking point. I'm seriously tempted to build my own case when I buy my new bass couple of weeks. I may do a build thread on it. Thing is, it's a really big if; I do get ideas and then apathy sets in quick. Mind you, I'm sure there's a load of things I may be missing here as well.
I expect you're right however, my wood working skills are none existant, I barely know one end of a saw from another. Give me a soldering iron and a circuit diagram and I'm laughing but a saw, 'fraid not.
 3.
and here was me think you was just rubbing tinmans nose in the fact he had to wait 14 weeks!

Ha ha yeah That as well
Now that is just plain mean, you guys should have sympathy for my pain. I'm suffering here you know.
 4.
excellent another shuker build thread to look forward to. Tinman now the waiting game begins, but its worth it in the end.
I know, it's driving me mad already. Hopefull Jon will get plenty of pics to me at appropriate times so that i can keep this thread up to date.
 5. Thanks mate, I'll look into that. BTW A-D what is Jon doing for you?
 6.
Hi tinman, You can get aluminium rectangle cases with a large foam block inside and cut that to fit your bass. They offer superb protection. ped
Thanks Ped, I saw those on the net. My only concern was I remember something back on BT/BW about faom possilbly damaging some forms of laquers, is this true?
Hi Tinman, I asked a similar question on BT a few weeks ago, these were the responses: Essentially for full protection there are 4 options of cases going up in cost: Gigbags+case; Moulded plastic cases; Wood/aluminium flight cases; Military Hardware cases. Gigbags: Ritter - good quality, do a range of sizes so something usually fits Warwick - as above, but less 'features' (phone pockets etc.) Overwater leather - nice but very expensive at £200 Harvest leather - probably where Overwater source theirs from, £15 cheaper, but increased postage Gig bags can be put in other cases such as the specifically designed SKB BassSafe if going on a plane that will offer a good amount of protection too. Hard/semi plastic cases: INCASE - from the states, consdered the best thing between a hard and soft case on TalkBass, they have no UK distribution and only use expensive shipping so Bleedproof was looking at getting a large order together, but that's not been mentioned in a while. Hiscox - great UK manufacture, my personal preferance. Flight cases: BUSTERCASES. www.bustercases.com tel:0161 761 2040. fax:0161 761 6040 Spider Engineering: Tamworth (near Reading), Protech Sound & Light (1) Unit 1a, Sedbury Trading Estate, Grahamstown Rd, Sedbury, Chepstow, Gwent NP16 7AD Tel: 01291 630410 Military hardware cases: Google explorer or pelican cases. Made from high strength plastics, these are very expensive but can be made air tight and will take any punishment and are usualy lighter that a flight case D.
Cheers A-D, I know it's a bit early to be thinking about this but I don't want to end up with a case that will let it move about. I've got a standard rectangular hard case I could use but the Shuker is going to be quite small (bodied) in comparison to others, so I need to think about some form of molded case.
 7.
Tinman's got wood
Ha ha, yes you could be right there
 8. Anyone know of a firm that custom builds cases?
 9.
It will soon pass especially with a couple of weeks of that time you being on holiday, and such.. When you do get it. I'm sure you will be like a kid on christmas day. I would if I had to wait 14 weeks.
When I get it I shall probably want to take it to bed with me, just to make sure the nasty night pixies don't get it.
 10.
14 weeks? Yeah, right... and wedding gigs always start on time ...
I guess you're saying that it could be longer than that. I'm in no rush really, I think Jon said he's got 12 builds on the go at the minute, so he's a busy man.
 11.
Only 97 days to go until its ready! (14 weeks - 1 day).
Thanks for that Si, I really need to hear that
 12. Wow Si, when you want to make a point, you really make it
 13. Jon showed one with blue and one with red. I have to admit to liking the blue ones best but he suggested I ask the question.
 14. Thanks all, I've asked Jon to fit blue ones.
 15. I have pics John, check your e-mail mate Pete
 16. The Doodle needs to be heard in the way she was created. Sweet, clear and crisp, from what I've heard of her already I'm sure she will find her voice.
 17. Dood man, we're still laughing, that was so good.
 18.
and so it became clear what exactly was going on over by the bench..... "G....... 5........" "No way!!!!" "What??" "You've sunk my battleship!!!"
Now that is bloody funny, you just made me spit my red wine you swine.
 19.
Pleasure! I meant to call Jon today actually. I'll drop him an email tomozz now I think.. oh hang on! it's tomozz already! GUH!! ;o)
You should have called him, OldGit did, under the pretence that he was phoning about a bass when, in reality he was checking that I'd got out of the wood store alive.
 20.
Did Jon tell you why her nickname is poobie? She's a little sweety!!! So, it went very well then Pete? I guess you managed to get out of the wood cupboard.. but it sound like the damage had already been done by that point! Dan
Funnily enough he didn't say but we can guess. The day was tops. It was a close thing with the wood store, fives and sixes were rushing through my head while I was in there. I've just sent Jon an e-mail saying I'd like the EMGs, I guess they give me more options for change and they sound amazing. I'm looking at the DC and P combination. Again thanks for your help Pete
 21.
I've got 2 basses with blue top edge lights. Never had a problem with them getting lost, just me.

I used to work with Theatre lighting many years ago and if I remember correctly Blue lights can easily get lost in white light. This would make red light clearer. Hope that is of some help for you.
What do I do???????????? It' all so confusing. I like blue but red is good, I know, how about mauve? Sorry guys, I guess I need to think about what out stage lighting is like and then decide from there. Si, Jon agrees with you, he thinks red would be best from a stage point of view, but the blue is SO nice! P.S If Mrs T had her way they would be pink!
 22.
If I'm not mistaken (going by a video I watched some time ago) - Stuart Clayton has blue LED's on his neck, maybe he could advise you, assuming he's registered on BC?
Thanks mate, you do know I'm talking about the light's on the top edge and not the front lights, don't you? Reason I ask this is that I think there may be some confusion. The question is I need to know which work best in the varying degrees of stage lighting, Jon reckons the blue ones get lost. Aesthetically IMHO, the blue ones go best with the maple but are red (or any other colour for that matter) better on stage? Cheers Pete
 23.
Good luck with the build - the frequency shift the one that is in the cavity or is it one the controls (didn't realise Jon did that)? Spec sounds good - it is very hard to choose when there is so much choice.
The frequency shift is the one in the cavity, Jon doesn't do the stacked control as he thinks that once players have decided where they want it, they tend to leave it there. And yes it is very difficult to choose but I have to admit to bowing to Jon's knowledge when it came to woods etc, I dealt more with the cosmetic side of it. However, a lot of what you yourself and the others out there that have had an input, was discussed and used in the final decisions. Thanks for your help mate. Pete
