For example, I get on better with the slap tone from this than I have from ANY Fender I've played, though if you want Mark King slap tone - get a King Bass.
What it is with Status owners and slap bass?
2. Bristle? Ere, where zat too?
3. I play this Status S-2 Classic: And this Status Series 1 Neck through: With a USA Jazz coming soon...
4. I think Bristol must be the bass playing capital of the world! Welcome!
5. I use the Neo 2x12 and 1x12 and they completely trounce the Markbass, Trace and EBS cabs I've tried. Top notch gear if you ask me!
6. I try and be as melodic as I can within the bounds of the song. Sometimes this means holding back a bit, sometimes I let loose...
7. I'd consider the Status 5 string in the for sale section as a great first 5er if I were you. My Status 5s are more comfortable than P bass necks to me.
8. That was a very impressive refurbish from Dr Dave, and a lovely bass indeed. Good luck with the sale!
9. Pm'd.
10. Sound and feel, mostly... I'm considering 4 stringer's now as well, as I can fit a D tuner. Bassjamm has a nice looking USA Jazz that's tempting me...
11. Just looking at Laklands on the Bass Central site - 55-01s can be had for around £400 with the exchange rate! Crazy. I do really like the looks of the DJ. Its a just a little bit more suave than a regular Jazz
12.
Silverfoxnik has got two for sale - a Yammy BB615 (no pickguard, but retro look) and a re-worked Sub 5. It's different to a normal SR5, so you might like it more. Both in for sale section.
Not a fan of those Yammys, the looks are, er, not my bowl of blamange if you know what I mean. The Sub looks nice but I'm in the Jazz mindset now
13.
In your position I'd get a used Lakland skyline.
Whats the quality of the Skyline basses like in comparison with a USA Fender? I was tempted by Muya's but seemed a bit on the pricey side for a used one.
14. Well, you may recall I was looking for a 4 string Stingray recently. I'd wanted one for ages, and went to try a few out the other week. Didn't get on with them at all! Just something about them didn't click with me. I don't know what it was, but they just didnt say "buy me". Well, one less thing to GAS about! At the same time though I played a few USA Fender Jazz 4 strings - a Standard with S1 (I think) and a highway 1. Liked both, very much. So, of course, now I'm gassin for a Jazz! In my band though I really need a 5, which rules out the Highway 1 which I believe only comes with 4 strings... There have been some lovely Lakland DJ basses for sale lately, but are they worth the extra scratch over a used USA Fender? Is there another maker I should consider (nothing too pricey)? Basically I want a 5 string Jazz with a great fingerstyle tone, a B that isnt too floppy, and nothing too "modern" looking (no lack of pickguard, spalted tops etc).
15. Good stuff. Not sure I'd describe the highs on my Elixer Nanowebs as "rubbery" though!
16. I was tempted by a surf green maple board California J J 5, but I can't help but shake the preconcieved notion I have that German basses are chunky, heavy, and lacking in the electronics dept? Anyone care to shake me out of it with some real world experience?
17. Damn, this guy is good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf4AdYZtWj8&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov8MuN8y5fg...ted&search=
18. Ooh, always liked Dolphins. Pics please!
19.
Hey! those were great days for me! thats how i know your face then, that and i sometimes lurk on vj.
Hooray for VoodooJunkie!
20. If it must all be the same, then I think I'd go with Trace: Seafoam Green 5 string Trace Elliott T Bass Trace Elliott V8 head Trace 2x10 and 1x15 cabs
21.
Does that mean that Mark King is out of the running? Alex
IMO Mark King is the anti-cool!

Stingray GAS!

Yep. Thats what I'm after! *drool*
23. I still have my 1995ish Encore P bass. It was my first bass, and although it weighs a tonne and the neck feels like a toy, its ok to plink around on.
24. I'm still unsure if I like it or not. It looks very unorganic, and that puts me off a bit. Don't see myself owning one, personally.

Stingray GAS!

That's really nice! I like natural finishes like that. The other natural stingray finishes I see are a bit too, well, grainy for me, but that's lovely.
