1. Your half right shep, it is to do with the centre positive, negative power supply issues, not all XO series have that problem just a few. Its a component they use in some models that require centre positive power, I believe its a digital component but can't remember exactly, I believe theres certain issues with sharing digital and analogue pedals on a chain on all effects pedals whether there EHX or boss etc, I've never really had a problem with my board though. If its an issue not being able to power it with a PSU just use batteries, thats what I do with mine and they last a long time even with regular use.
2. All I can say is it definitely needs it's own supply, I know I read somewhere what happens if you do chain it, I can't remember what though. The ehx forum might have your answers.
3. To the original OP, try googling it internet is your friend!!! I can see no reason why you can't use push/pull pots, the only thing i would suggest is if you do/can go down that route buy the solid shaft pots so you can screw the knobs into the shaft, if you use spilt shaft you could pull the knob clean of the pot!! Other than that two small switches would be good but you will have to drill the control plate. I can't confirm that the above diagrams are correct, I think the second one is something more like you want. If in doubt speak to a local luthier
4. If you have control over volume of both pick ups in series mode, doesn't that defeat the object of having a series mode? Or am I just being thick?
5. In a nut shell in series mode the neck volume control becomes master volume, you turn that down it will turn both pickups down, it doesn't matter what you do with the bridge control nothing will happen... in parallel mode the two volumes turn back on and it acts like a standard passive bass with no mods.
6. I think you will only need one of those to make a series/parallel pot. So the first volume pot should have the push/pull and when down it's a normal volume and when it's up (pulled) I think it should deactivate the 2nd volume pot and become a master volume for both pick ups when turned. The other two pots you could change to brand new standard 250k pots, but if the pots you already have on the bass are 250k and the cap is 0.047 there's probably no point, unless they are dud. Don't take my word for all this, this is just my understanding of this type of wiring, I'm sure there will be an expert along soon
7. i have one on my p-bass, defnintely a good upgrade far more solid than the original.
8.
You can't totally bypass the pre-amp by using the effects loop but the return socket on your Ashdown will bypass the EQ stage. I'm not an Ashdown user but many amps I've tried seem to be a bit 'weedy' at low volume levels and don't really start performing as intended until you hit a certain volume threshold. I wouldn't expect a company like Ashdown to release a product with anything less than a good pre-amp stage, so I strongly suspect that it'll be plenty loud enough once you start using it in anger...
I'm hoping that's the case!! I'm quite happy with the sound I'm getting from the rig as it is, just its no good if it doesn't cut through. I have a feeling everyything will be a-ok!! I'm going to rehearsal tonight so I'll let you guys know.
9.
I used one for a while for rehearsals with a jazz bass, suffered the same problem could not get enough input gain. I solved it by using one of those little ART valve driven mic preamps which can provide up to 20db of gain. I guess you could use any boost pedal suitable for bass to make up the gain. Its a nice sounding preamp but its like they didn't finish of the design properly. An active Yamaha bass that I tried only just managed to drive it into clipping 'flat' But if you can get enough input signal they are quite good. Also they benefit greatly if you use a mains filter. Ha i didnt read you post properly! stick the Art pre inline i.e plug your bass into it then the Art into the input of the amp at least thats what i did. Best on active and adjust the gain so it doesnt clip
I do actually have an ehx lpb-1 booster, I guess I could try that if worst comes to worst.
10. I've just got hold of a little giant 1000, I am using it with my 4 ohm schroeder 1212l cab. The pre amp stage on the head seems a little weak. How would I go about hooking up an external pre amp if I feel like I need more power, do I just go into the pre amp then straight into the input on the amp or do I have to do it via the effects loop? I haven't actually tried it at rehearsal yet, I have a feeling it will be plenty loud enough as is but just want to know just in case!! The sort of pre-amp i would be looking at is an art tube preamp. Please move this if it's in the wrong place!!
11. I struggle with a pick big time, hand seizes up and I feel like I'm holding it all wrong. Been playing with my fingers for 9 years find it hard to change even though I know some things could sound better with a pick. I just try and adjust my finger style and play more towards the bridge. Doesn't sound the same but better than nothing haha.
12. I know there's some interest in these, not the most sought after colour but here it is anyways! 13.
But then I pick up the P, and... BOOM! J's just don't have that wallop.
I completely agree with this!
14. WOW, nice bass, never seen one like that before, is it all original??
15. If I were to set up two bass amp rigs to play through at the same time, say one clean and one completely with effects could I just use a d.i box at the beginnig of the effects chain with an xlr to jack cable and go straight into the input of the head on the second rig, and just do as normal with the first rig? I can't think of a reason why I couldn't but am not an expert. I already have a DHA DI that I haven't even used so would be using this box.
16. Got a little giant 1000 and a schroeder cab on the way. I see there are 2 pin and 4 pin speakon cables out there, which do i need and can anyone tell me the difference?
17. I'd shout at it angrily and hope for the best....failing that take it to a luthier... sit back and relax lol
18.
Love the look of those Vista Musicmasters, very nice! Eude
I've got one of these and they are really nice basses! I think squier should do these again as well, or as someone else said a mustang!
19. I've got this http://www.alesis.com/io2express works great, two inputs with pre amps, phantom power etc. I used to use a behringer FCA202 firewire interface which always worked without problem, the down side was you needed a pre amp, behringer used to have a mini preamp thing they used to sell with in built settings, that was good as well. This isn't me shamefully plugging my gear but i'm actually selling my behringer interface on here for £25 if you wanna save a bit of dough. If you want all in one interfaces the M-audio stuff is also pretty good in my experience.
20. Got pics?
21. I know it's a different model but i had the vintage jaco fretless. Is actually a great bass, sounds good stock, but with £100 worth of upgrades a fantastic bass. In fact the guy I sold it to changed pots and pickups and loves it!! But he also gigged it and loved it stock as well. I only got rid of it because I got a great offer on a better bass simple as. As a side note I had the Squier VM Fretless as well and didn't really like it. As another side not (sorry lol) the bass you originally posted about goes for £205 on GAK
22.
But my local garage does fire wood for £4.99?!
I'd feel sorry for any fire that goes near this neck
23. I use swing 66's, used to use elites nickels but worked out i prefer the stainless, never actually bothered trying the elite stainless maybe should have done. Anyways, I find the strings adequate for what I do, not mega expensive, but I do find they feel a bit sticky, maybe it's me.. I might be in the market for a new set of strings when mine all need changing.
24. yeah i made the mistake of leaving a bass at my practice studio without even getting it out for about three weeks, needless to say it got cold. It back bowed the neck and I went to work on it straight away which wasn't a good idea. I would do what everyone else has said leave it at room temperature for a couple of days let it settle then adjust it to your needs again. Mine's all better now lol.
