1. One bass I've always wanted but never had. Superb.
2.
I used to have one. It was a great bass. Cost me £90 about 12 years ago. I just sold a Silver Series Tele guitar too, the guy is delighted with it. However, I wonder if people think they are better than the current Squier Classic Vibes. I just bought a CV '50s Strat and it's a fabulous guitar for the money, great build and tone and I love the neck.
Yeah, I think old gear can be looked at through rose tinted spectacles a bit, some of it was awful, 70s Fenders were a case in point, some great, some pants, and the older Squiers are the same, I've played some dogs, but if you can find a good one they're great. However, I'm with you on the Classic Vibes, they seem to be consistantly good basses, and probably a much safer bet.
3.
Not for the Ric, but most certainly for photography. I've been working towards creating a book of bass photographs featuring models/basses and want to include water. Need to include water would be more accurate. I've had nearly a year out for this reason and that and I'm keen to get on now I'm largely functional again.
Is it possible to heat/shrinkwrap the bass body somehow first? No idea if that could work, no idea if shrinkwrapping can damage the bass at all?
4. Yeah they're cracking basses when you find a good one. I had a Strat once and wasn't overly impressed with that, but the last couple of basses I've tried have been great. My Precision is a couple of years older, and also MIJ, and it's as good as any Precision as I've ever played.
5. Well, having had a couple of amps soaked in beer a couple of times, I've found that immediate dismantle and drying out with a hair drier has resulted in no ill effects for the amp. I guess with water it would be the same principle as long as the bass is fully dried out as quickly as possible to avoid any corrosion, and I would dry all parts out separately avoiding any water being trapped inside the pickups for instance. Is it for one of your photo shoots? Not for the Ric you're about to sell I hope . However, if the pictures involve a young lady in a bikini then I'd say go for it.
6. 350 watts, 2x10, 500W with a cab added. I wanted something similar to the SWR Redhead, and that's what I got. It's served me very well, but my new Markbass gear means this amp is redundant. I have the metal blank plate somewhere that covers the hole between the head and the cab, but I took it off because it rattled in a live situation. The 1U space is there as the amp was designed to accomodate a rack tuner. Details here: http://www.guitaramp...r-400-pro/10862 TRADED. It comes with a custom made roqsolid heavy duty cover, and is on heavy duty Casters as standard.
7. Bloody hell Pete that's gorgeous. Will it find it's way in to the Dan set?
8. Fantastic. If it sounds as good as it looks it'll be a stonker.
9. Sounds a bit odd to me, although Stevie Williams plays a '78 Jazz fitted with barts, and it sounds sublime. The Barts on his were put in much later though. Did Barts even exist in 1978? Dunno.
10. I can vouch for the bass, it's a total beauty, wish I could afford it, and Steve's a top bloke too.
11. Stuart Zender Adam Nitti Colin Moulding JJ Burnel Tina Weymouth Steve Harris Janek Gwizdala Marcus Miller That pretty much covers most of my favourites.
12. Yeah, saw that. It's nice isn't it.
13.
What do the toggles do then anyway?
Passive/active/active treble boost, Series/parallel, Pickup selector.
14.
You might all want to duck as this curve ball comes in!................ You might want to forget both MM & G&L and go for a Sandberg California JM4 (or JM5 if you prefer). I have both a 79 Ray and an 89 G&L Asat. They're both great basses and I would never part with either, especially the Ray, which I'm pleased to say does not have a weak G string. However for all-round quality and ability to cover all sounds/basses in this thread, it is the dogs......... You can dial in a very good MM sound and you've got all the options of Jazz sounds and it can be passive or active. The treble and bass tone controls are both cut and boost too, for added flexibility. These California JMs have captured the magic of Leo's bass DNA and taken it to the next place he may well have gone after G&L, had he stayed with us longer. The Sandberg California can cover a lot of the same territory as the G&L Asat or L-2000 too.
I agree with that. I've tried a few Sandbergs and fallen in love with pretty much every one. Fabulous tone.
15.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/G-L-Bass-guitar-L150...=item5192e8bf52
I'd love that bass, the colour's just fabulous, and it'd look fantastic next to my Forrest Green L2000: I'm definately a G&L convert. I'd never given them the time of day until I picked this L2000 up, but I'm knocked out by the tones available from this bass, and for me, it's a very comfortable bass to play. Like Big J, mine's a 90's model with the 3 bolt neck. Love it.
16. Having had both, and if it's the Stingray sound you're after, then go for the Stingray. You won't get the Stingray tone from a G&L although you can get close. In terms of playability there's nothing between them for me. In terms of tonal possibilities there's no competition, go for the G&L, it can do do way more than the Stingray can, but you'll never get that 'ray tone from a G&L. Superb basses both, although I have had issues with both too. "Suck it and see" as Tommy said to Pammy.
17. Funny, I just took delivery of an RBX270J today to pass on to an 11 year old lad as his first bass. Tell you what, I'm in two minds about letting the little blighter have it. It's a really nice bass. Very light, and comfy to play, with some really great tones with the stock pups, but I reckon if you slapped a couple of Wizard pickups into it, you'd have a superb instrument. 18. Yup, Stingrays are fab, I love the tones, especially from the 2 band version, but both the ones I had suffered from the quiet G string problem, and I never really sorted it out on either of them. Actually now I think I prefer the G&L I'm currently using. Not quite that 'ray tone, but close, and for me, many more other tones available that the Stingray can't do, so it's a much more versatile bass. Still love 'rays though.
19. This was it when I had it:
20. This bass was mine, and it was a beaut. Mark's a top bloke too, so buy with confidence.
21. 1990/91 Made In Japan Squier Precision. I bought it from ebay in poor shape for a couple of hundred quid. I cleaned it up, put it back together, and hey presto, the nicest, comfiest, thumpiest P bass I've ever played, and I've played a few. Fitted with flats, it's soul/funk personified. I've had Overwaters, Musicmans, Sadowskys etc etc, but this little P bass will never leave me.
22. Ibanza?? Very rare they are. I think you're in the wrong section mate, you need the for sale section. Perhaps your bass is an Ibanez?
23. I think sometimes people will buy a sig bass to be like thier hero. It's almost like you've bought a small part of them, which in some cases you have, because the artist may have been heavily involved in the design of it. I don't have a problem with that at all if that's your bag. I've done it myself with a Marcus Miller Jazz, and a Geddy Lee Jazz, both superb basses regardless of the signatures. I've also had an Ibanez K5 even though I'm not a Fieldy fan at all, but it was a wonderful bass. I don't have a problem with signature basses at all, as long as you're buying the bass in it's own right, and not because of the signature on the headstock (or fretboard in Stings case).
