1. Woooaahhhh that's stunning. If you were to only have one bass for everything, surely a Bongo 6 would be the one to have. Beautiful.
2. Yeah, that's a sexy looking bass mate, I'd be happy with that as my gigging bass too.
3. Red Hot Chilli Peppers for me. I actually love the rhythm section (Flea & Chad), but I can't stomach Anthony Kiedis's vocals and I'm not keen on John Frusciante's sound either.
4. Listen to or watch on you tube any of Janek Gwizdala'a stuff and he does it all the time. It's a good thing apparently for fretboard recognition and learning what the notes on the fretboard sound like before you actually play them. I've started singing out loud when I play sometimes, much to the bands amusement, but they're generally all the wrong notes.
5. Send it back. You'll never be happy until you do, it'll drive you mad.
6. Sound samples.....god, I'm clueless about stuff like that, I'll consult my brother who might know what to do. Thanks for all the offers folks, but they're not quite what I need at the moment, although the EDB looks very interesting. I'm hoping for a simple Jazz or Precision, but cash is king right now I must admit.
7. Woooaaa........... nice gear my friend.
8. Cheers Pete, yep, might just hang on to it, I might have found the cash I need elsewhere.
9. No worries, MB1 is selling a 'ray copy for around £125 I think.
10. There's always my OLP Tony Levin in the for sale section . OLPs were great Stingray style basses, but to me, not comparable to Musicman basses. Out of the box, mine played great, lots of thump, but lacking a little top end sparkle. Very different in tone to my MM 'ray. The EQ was pretty poor on mine, although I've heard lots of people who really liked theirs. I changed both the pickup and the EQ for the best money can buy IMO, really as a project, and it's turned out very well, but at a price. Think of it as a Stingray shaped bass, that has a personality of it's own, and your about there. Not a Musicman, but very nice in it's own right. OLPs play well, look great, and in many cases sound great too, I think they're well worth the money for a nice one.
11. I'll have to check this out on the iplayer, Mju is one of my favourite albums.
12. Niiiice bass. The Aeros were the best IMO, that's why my current bass has them.
13.
Thanks Russ, just noticed in the pic that the control plate on the Jazz doesn't cover the cavity completely. I really hope I can fix that tonight cos it'll drive me mad otherwise.
I sold a Marcus Miller because the pickguard didn't quite line up properley, it just bugged me every time I looked at it. Don't make the same mistake though !!
14. Trouble is, everyone's opinions/tastes are slightly different. Some will like them, some won't. The Barts I've heard have been fantastic. They can be a little clean and polished in terms of tone, but I've never heard anything other than a wonderful tone from them. My Kinal has a Bart pre and Aero pups, nice combination indeed. The best Jazz I ever heard was Lakland DJ4 with Aeros in it, tone to die for, and coupled with a Bart pre, it's tone city baby.
15. Fabulous set up mate, two basses and a rig to die for, just beautiful.
16. Thanks for that, yeah, it's as good a Stingray tone as you could want really, for a fraction of the price of a Musicman.
17. PM replied to. Price dropped to £300, it has to be worth every penny of that.
18. If it was me Al, I'd be making the sound nice and punchy. On a hollow stage it'll probably be a bit boomy, so I'd be boosting the mids and some top end, and maybe backing the bottom end off a tiny bit. Pretty much my normal tone then !! Can't wait to see your new band mate!!
