1. I'd love to hook up with a reggae band. I'm a big Robbie Shakespeare fan, and it'd be great to get to play some dub/reggae bass. I've played mainly rock most of my life, and it gets a bit dull to be honest, so I envy you.
2. Whatever the origin of a bass, it's so personal in terms of the tone you're after. As far as I'm concerned I echo what Al kindly said about my bass, it's just jaw droppingly wonderful. I expected to love it, and upon seeing it in the case at Birmingham New Street where the deal was done, thanks to Ben, I new I wouldn't be disappointed, but actually getting it home and plugging it in was just the best. I've tried one or two Overwaters, and I loved them all for aesthetics, tone and playability. I'm yet to play one I don't like. Al, I'm more than happy to bring it to one of you're gigs so you can try it live mate, so you can be sure. Alternatively I'll bring it up to your gaff and you can try it through your gear at home. I must add mate, that your Spector sounded immense the other night. I wouldn't be in any hurry to move that on.
3. Outstanding combo, I still miss mine.
4. Gold looks the dogs for a hipster like yourself Pete, bit I reckon the black is definately more rock'n'roll for Dan's purposes.
5. Beautiful bass, best of luck.
6. Buy the Ibanez SRX700 on sale here, really, don't hesitate. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=40463
7. How much are you thinking, I'm after one of these.
8. Spectors are immense, congrats Dan, it's awesome. I'm yet to come across one I don't like. I had a go on 3 more a couple of nights ago, and Alan's (Homer) ACG upgraded Spector was totally fabulous. Power, tone, playability, all you could want from a bass.
9.
Now that is very very nice indeed! Beautiful top, stunnning bass my friend!!
Cherry wood I believe. I was expecting the strings to be on the taught side, but they really aren't, it's just fantastic to play, and the sound is out of this world. I've spent the afternoon fitting new strings, lem oiling the fretboard, and tweaking the action a bit, and it's just brilliant, I'm over the moon with it.
10. You've got flatwounds on your shortscale bass, and roundwounds on your jazz. Strings are very much a matter of trial and error, and personal taste. For the jazz, if it was me, I'd be using Ernie Ball Super Slinkys (the pink packet), and for the shortscale bass, if you like flats (smooth strings) then Thomastik Infield flats are superb. Rounds are punchier, with more attack, and flats are warmer and more mellow sounding, generally.
11. Must be a mistake surely, if not, that's utter madness. You can find a nice used MIA for that.
12. It was awesome before, it must be totally outstanding now. Easiest, most comfortable bass to play I ever had? Yep, I'd say so. Not quite sure why I traded it out to be honest .
13. 1981, Columbus Jazz, because I wanted to be like my hero Jean Jaques Burnel.......who played a Precision......?!?
14. I saw him at bass day in Manchester, in..........2007 I think. He really was unbelievable, it was jaw dropping stuff, for about 20 minutes.......then I'd heard enough.
15. I'm tempted to buy this myself. Glad you're happy with the K5 Barry, it's a truely superb bass that. I've been through about a dozen basses since we met.
16. Very..very....very sexy indeed.
17.
Thanks very much for the nice comments!! Both Overwaters are 35", and the B is phenomenal, but still there is a nice even tone and tension across all strings.
I just wondered how I was going to get on with the imminent arrival of my Progress 36". Very excited, but those strings are going to be as tight as a farmers wallet.
18. Blimey.......that's very nice indeed. What scale length is that?
19. My favourite latino/country (??) player is Robert Earl Reynolds from the Mavericks. Not exactly salsa, but then not exactly anything in particular, just good music with a south american vibe.
20. I'll be coming up from Manchester, so I'm happy to pick a couple of people up on the way, within reason. Alan, must be my turn to pick you up mate?
21.
I wanna see that Overwater
Yeah.......if I get it in time. If the weather has its way, Birmingham (where we're meeting to seal the deal) will be under a couple of feet of snow.
