1. I'm hoping to land a shortscale Gretsch Thunder Jet in the next couple of days, and having never bought short scale strings, I just wondered if anyone had any recommendations. I understand it's medium scale strings I need, because of the design of the bridge, short scale strings can possibly be too short, and I don't want to trim longer scale strings. I use Super Slinkys on my other basses, anything similar you can recommend?
2. I love Robert's tone, and I love his energy. Top bass player and a fascinating vid.
3. Yeah, I think the petrol alone would cost more than either bass is worth.
4. Yep, very nice, is it an S1? Only problem is distance really, east coast is about as far away from me as it gets. Nice Precision though.
5. PMs replied to thanks. Still open to offers of trades on this one. I rehearsed with it last night, and it was sublime, I just fancy a change.
6. Quality bass. Have a bump.
7. PM'd.
8. Quality bass, I'm surprised it's still here.
9. Very interested in those. My white Tbird was a storming bass, neck dive schneck dive, I loved it.
10. no mate, I'll give a last hike before just keeping it. It's a lovely thing, and I'll be more than happy to just hang on to it if no-one fancies it. Guess I'll have to save up for a Precision.
11. final bump.
12. Well......my guess would be the Precision plus a ton on top? Assuming the P bass is in A1 condition. Usually mint Precisions go for around 550, and I'm after 650 for the ray, black/maple is my ideal choice too.
13. I'm specifically after a USA Fender Precision plus cash my way for this now.
14. PMs replied to.
15. bump
16. Hi mate, yes it's still available. I'm in Manchester.
17. Replied.
18. Alternatively, I'm after a Gibson 335, or a Fender SRV Strat. Basswise, it's really a Marcus Miller Jazz I'm after first and foremost.
19.
GAS got the better of you Russ? Just got a Marcus myself and they are fantastic basses. This used to be mine and I missed it the moment it left my house. So much so that I bought another 'ray 2 days later. If I had the cash I'd have it back without hesitation but I'm skint at the mo' Unless you fancy a trade for an 08 Blizzard Pearl / Rosewood USA Precision Good luck with the sale.
Cheers Ray, I just fancy another Marcus, and the extra cash on top would be useful. It's the nicest ray I've ever played, I just fancied someting new. I'm a bit fussy about the colour of the Precision, and I'm really keen to get a black/maple one to be honest, JJ Burnel style. Thanks for the offers Mike, but not quite what I'm after at the moment.
20. GONE.
21. To me there are no rules, go with your gut feeling. However, personally I would always suggest a beginner to start on a 4 stringer. Get the bassics right on that and play as much as you can. If in a few months the urge for a low B string is still there, well, go for it then. Only my opinion, and you'll get quite a few here, but whatever you go for, enjoy, that's all that matters.
22.
I'd love to give it to you for £550 mate but I've had one offer of £600 & another £635 & I've turned both of them down. Its always worth a haggle though, I'd do the same
Don't give it away Anth, it's worth at least £650 of anyones money.
23. Beautiful bass, top price too, have a bump.
24. Just sticking my opinion in, I used an Alpine White Epi TB for a year in a rock band, and it was faultless. Brilliant bass, well put together, awesome sound, VERY big tone, and a very playable neck indeed. Having tried a few Gibsons over the years, I honestly believe the Epi beat them all for sound and playability, and of course price. Never tried a Tokai, so I can't comment, but I'd definately recommend the Epiphone.
25.
Cheers for the message Russ, My wife's B-day is on the 15th March as well so I did think It was meant to be. I'd love to keep it as it really is a great player & looker but since my jazz build I can't see me playing it... I'll keep my fingers crossed for a lottery win for you so you can have it back Anth
Cheers mate, I'll cross my fingers too . If mysteriously I find £650 down the back of the sofa, I'll be in touch.
