1. What a beaut. I fancied one of these at one point although I couldn't afford a Hofner these days. I noticed Amy Winehouse's bass player using one at Glastonbury.
2. +1 It's a fantastic day out, and highly recommended for any bass player of any level. Plenty of porn to drool over, and plenty of top quality acts guaranteed.
3. Marcus Miller Jazz 70's jazz or precision ACG 6 string Amp upgrade In that order. I should never have let my Marcus go in the first place.
4. I'll be there, best day out of the year for me. If you need a lift Gary let me know, got you message via myspace. Russ.
5. My first two basses were a Columbus jazz and a Squire Precision, but that's going back to the 80's, and that was long before I took pictures of my stuff, and to be honest, they weren't worth showing anyway. Next, MIM Precision, upgraded with badass, Quarterpounder, Hipshots etc etc. Fabulous bass, and still the best Precision I've ever played regardless of where it was made, the neck was gorgeous, and the sound with the Seymour Duncan QP was awesome, seen here with the Yamaha mid 80's BB3000S, a superb bass. I should've kept them both: Then, the Yammys, a 400S fretless, a 3000S and an 1100S, all 80's models: Then, the Thunderbird, an awesome rock bass, with a beautiful neck and a massive sound, Epiphone, but better than any Gibsons I've tried. The Marcus Miller jazz, loved it, should never have sold it, and I'll be getting another someday for sure. The Ibanez Precision was a 1975 model, packed with mojo, another great bass, I used it for playing dub reggae mainly: Fender Precision Deluxe, the very one Mikeh had from me, great bass, but I traded it for his Lakland JO: Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn, loved it, loved it, should still have it, but I needed to raise some cash, so out it went: Highway One jazz with Villex pups (seen here before the new pups were fitted) and the Stingray, my babies, and going nowhere, any future basses will be bought not traded for these:
6. Ha, wicked, every one of them except the Status of course, I didn't like to tell you at the time in Colne when me and Dr Dave had a look at it, but I thought it sucked too, I'm not a fan. Top quality basses one and all, and I've played quite a few of them. I wish I still had the Marcus, I miss that a lot. The current MMs look fantastic, and I know how awesome that Nordstrand sounds. Wouldn't mind a go on your ray to see how it compares to mine.

Cheers fellas, Yes they're both mint at the moment. I intend to "look after" the ray in that respect, but the jazz is a workhorse, and hopefully in time, it'll pick up a bit of wear and tear, just how I like them.

9. My two are a few posts down this page.
10. Glad you've found a keeper mike, I think me and Alan have found ours too finally. I just wish I could've kept that JO, seeing the pic again brought a lump to my throat, I don't even know where it ended up.
11. Yeah that's a top quality add for sure, and what a band to get a reply from.
12. Ged Green is my tech, top chap, top job. Steve Robinson at Manchester Guitar Tech is a nice fella and has done work for me, I just wasn't always 100% happy with it.

Thanks for that. The Villex pups are amazing. Massive output while remaining passive. Big lows, with a fabulous dub sound, smooth and warm, better than my Precision was with its Quarterpounders, and crisp, clear highs. You can punch through the live mix with the mid control, but I like to back the mid off a bit. You can't have the pickup volumes on full it's just mad loud, so again, I back both pickups off a bit. I used it live a couple of nights ago, and the bass tone just filled the sound out so much more than before, even the band have commented on it being the best sounding bass I've ever had. It's not what I'd call a traditional jazz type growl, not like Lindy Fralins, but it produces a modern twist on the jazz sound, and the range of tones available is stunning, just by turning the pots a tiny bit, the sound changes a lot, so less is more when dialling up your EQ.

Nice, I'd love a 70's jazz, that one looks well loved.
16.
The Paul Jackson vids are funny.
Yeah, he does waffle on a bit doesn't he, I can't understand half of what he says. The Marcus Miller section is very interesting but mostly talk. I'd recommend the Janek Gwizdala masterclass, and the Victor Wooten one is good too. As much as I love Stu Hamm I didn't get much from his bit and likewise Billy Sheehans bit because the camera work is crap, and the operator keeps talking to his mate all the way through. It's a great site, and well worth a look.
17. I was lucky Luke, I was made redundant and became a house husband looking after the kids while my wife worked. Which allowed me to gig six times a month with no problems with my previous band, but there's no way I could've managed that with a full time job and two young kids to look after. Work must come first (after family), unless you're lucky enough to earn enough proffesionally as a musician, so I'd go for the job prospects, and keep your music as your escape from work.
18. I generally leave them on 'till they just go completely dead. I'm expecting the recently put on Warwick Black Labels on my jazz to last a year at least. I had some on a Thunderbird that were still going strong after 18 months, 6 gigs a month plus rehearsals, that's pretty good going.
19. I've had a BB3000S, a BB1100S a BB400S and a BB300, and they're all great basses, I'd buy it if I could, in a shot.
20. Both the DJ and the JO are superb basses in all respects. The Lindy Fralin pickups in the JO were some of the best I've heard. Buy one.
21. I couldn't live without my CD-BT1, it's indespensible to me. I use it every night for practise, so the amp can stay under the stairs. No-one can hear me, and I can play all day long without bothering anyone. If mine went kaput, I'd order another the same day. I have a case with it that has built in battery operated speakers, ok, they're a bit crap, but ok for fiddling out loud if you need to, not with a band though!! Generally I jam along to CDs on it, but you can plug an ipod into it and jam along to that too.
22. You're the devil you are, and I cast the holy water in your general direction. Stop tempting us with your evil wares.
23. It's funny, I do the single finger picking thing because my two fingered picking isn't great, I thought I was a bit of a freak playing that way, but apparently not. Great vid, thanks for the link, can't wait for October.
24. I walked out of a Level 42 gig two or three years back. The sound was terrible, and the venue was worse. Mark King never has had what I'd call a "meaty" sound, but the current setup is poor compared to the Jaydee IMO, lifeless and thin, as stated above.
