  1. Sorry, but I echo the above. A good teacher should have the facilities at his/her place of learning to provide everything the student needs, including an amp. The only reason you would bring a bass, would be because it was comfortable and familiar to you. Most teachers would have more than one bass, amps etc. I bet most of us have, I’ve got 4 amps here including a couple of decent practice amps. I would already be looking elsewhere.
  2. I echo the previous comments, I’m sorry to hear about your loss. You have to give it time my friend. It will come back, the desire to play again, when you’re ready. I’m not comparing my experience of course, but the end of my marriage was as low as I personally have ever been. I didn’t touch a bass, or even listen to any music at all, for 3 years. The trauma sucked the enthusiasm out of me. However, time allows you to learn to live with the loss, and slowly, your mojo comes back. I assure you it will, don’t rush it, and all the best to you for your future.
  3. This thing is absolutely fabulous, but just not what I need for the band right now. I’m saving for a Gibson Thunderbird or a US P bass ideally. If you have either, and want a trade, let me know. This is a classic era, ‘94 Fortress, absolute quality instrument, with a brand new, professionally fitted Aguilar OBP-1 preamp. Plays beautifully, and currently has brand new TI flats on it. With all the extras, it owes me well over 1K. I travel all over the country with work, so meeting you somewhere would be ideal. Thanks for having a look.
  4. Not going to lie…… We kicked donkey last night. It’s our 40yr anniversary, and a bunch of gigs are coming. I’ve been through a bunch of basses during this reunion, but it’s all about the Thunderbird and the Ashdown ABM 500. Such an amazing tone. Anyone into original heavy rock….. not being funny….. we’re still ace for a bunch of old men. 😆
  5. NICE……. I’ve not had a Lakland for years. That’s a sexy setup right there.

  7. I would imagine something like the EMG HZ would work well in there, if the dimensions are the same?
  8. Pull all the unnecessary cr*p out of it and you have a handful of hundred quids worth of a decent entry level musicman style bass. That’s all. Dark Ray Schmark Ray 🔨👞 (cobblers)
  9. Me neither…… never won anything in my life!
  10. Yep me too…. Thunderbird mostly, but this is on 3 songs….
  11. It’s always a shock to hear of the loss of one of the family, and Nigel was no different. Beautiful bass, someone will be very lucky to own it and continue its story.
  12. Very interesting. Does the Humbucker split to produce a jazz bridge pickup tone? I guess then you’ve pretty much go all the basses in one?
  13. Great basses Rumblekats. In addition to the above info, a lot depends on what kind of sound you’re looking for? Bright, thumpy, woolly…. ?
  14. Have they done the bass giveaway?
  15. Wow…. what a great thread. It absolutely didn’t take the direction I thought it would. Much like Scott’s album
  16. Yep, I'd be into that too
  17. What a cracker….. it’s beyond me why folks still spend twice as much money on a new instrument, when there’s absolute bangers out there, like this, for peanuts. If I didn’t have an MOT looming, I’d be all over this. Love Arias.
  18. Fascinating really….. we all have one thing in common, the love of bass guitars…… and yet we’re all so massively different in our interpretations of the instrument.
  19. I didn’t slag off fusion, if you read what I actually did say.
  20. There you, horses for courses…. I’m obviously at the wrong race track.
  21. Don’t get me wrong, my OP was not a pop at Mr D, he’s an amazing player and very good at what he does, he also seems like a really nice chap. I stop by his website pretty often. However this self indulgent musical offering is not my bag, that’s really my only point. I’m sure lots of people disagree and really enjoy it, which of course, is great.
  22. I hear you. Listen, I'm a jazz fan, along with metal, dub, funk, Britpop (😉) etc etc... a vast array of different genres.... I'm a music fan, like most of us are. I love fusion.... Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Jamiroquai, (early) Level 42 etc... some amazing stuff there. I also love art and poetry. However, there are, for example some works of art and poetry that make me work too hard to understand. I want to understand, but no matter how hard I work, I don't get it. There's nothing for me, intellectually, to grab on to. It makes me feel like I'm too stupid to get it, and gets my back up. That's how I feel about this music. In my opinion, art should make you feel good and make you want to go back for more. For me, this art makes me feel like a Cy Twombly painting. Confused and irritated.
  23. Totally amazing player But so far the album sounds like the soundtrack to a 70s cop show….. you know…. when the police are chasing the bad guys down a back alley in San Francisco….. in a gold sedan with a magnetic red flashing light on the roof….. crashing through piles of empty cardboard boxes with a box of donuts on the dashboard.
  24. We’re bass players, we’re into all kinds of music, rhythms etc….. but I can’t listen to that at all, totally discombobulating. Meanwhile I’m hoping I can get a handle on Janeks’ new stuff before his gig and masterclass coming up next month.
