  1. She’s ace…. I haven’t seen her for a long time… last I heard she was selling her ‘65 Jazz, which I’ve wanted for many years…. but £10K…. couldn’t afford it.
  2. Great basses at any price. Any of the Yamaha RBX basses are ace... I loved my 460 and kind of regret selling it. I also had a 170 for a while, really great bass, light and comfortable and sounded great. I think these are underrated.

    Aria PEB65

For those interested… Final tweeks done, just some paint/finish swirls to try and minimise. Crackly Jack socket seems to be cured by rotating a rolled piece of fine sandpaper around inside to abrade the contacts and a squirt of switch cleaner. Really lovely bass, very modern tone, powerful output, very bright and zingy but still has a lot of bottom boost….. kind of Stingray like, and unexpectedly so. Totally unlike any of my others basses, so the perfect addition to the family. Over and out.
  4. Oh no… not the “plays like butta” statement…. 😆, not popular on here matey 😉 However…… an SB900 ….. I’d give my right arm for. Looking forward to pics.
  5. I learned long ago…. Clearly printed destination address label on the front, with a clearly printed return label on the rear. Pack the item with care, send it with proof of postage, and most of the time all is good. Despite this, I’ve had artwork go missing, even with tracking and signature required.
  6. Anyone recommend a really good scratch/swirl removal product on a guitar finish?
  7. Every bass is different. Same manufacturer, same factory, same model…. different. Embrace the differences, the weight, the feel…. and leave them all as they are.

    Aria PEB65

Ok, so all cleaned up, fretboard oiled and a new set of medium gauge strings. Very nice indeed. Very comfortable to play, nice action (you could drive a car under it before, it’s no wonder people dislike guitars and sell them, because they can’t set them up!). OOF!! Crazy output, I wasn’t expecting that, almost Stingray levels of top end. No idea what the controls are, I’ve found Volume and tone I think, I guess another is pickup blend? No idea what the fourth one does, Treb/Bass cut/boost? Anyway it’s a fabulous thing, very pretty and very punchy…. so there’s some more investigation to do.
  9. Definitely a shortscale day, with TI flats and the Sidewinder neck pickup on full, it’s the most “upright” sound I can get.
  10. No interest, so I’ll keep it for now. So with the arrival of another Aria, I think it’s time to move a couple on. Samick made, 2006, this thing has barely been played since new. The previous owner had it on the wall from new and apparently never played it? I bought it, gave it a full clean and setup, fitted Hipshot tuners and Dunlop strap buttons. The fretboard is absolutely lovely, cleaned and oiled it’s very smooth. Nice action (it was set up like a**), brand new and totally unplayed Dunlop Super Bright strings. Beautiful translucent green/blue over an ash body I’m guessing. So it has weight to it. It’s basically a Thunderbird in a more manageable shape. High output pickups, it sounds absolutely awesome. A really superb bass. Price includes me bringing it to you (or meeting somewhere), within reason, I travel all over the country. It’s a cliché, but I’m really not desperate to sell it, so I just thought I’d see if someone would like to own and more importantly play this lovely bass. FYI, I’m away next week, so it would be 29th June onwards before I could get to you. Thanks for looking
  11. Yours is the nicest looking one amongst those, in my opinion. What sort of price is he asking for one of his creations?
  12. I knew Pete from when he worked for Jones music here in Macclesfield, many years ago…. last thing I bought from him was an old Spector….. never got to see him play with Nearly Dan unfortunately….”I hate Steely Dan Pete, sorry”. Anyway…. On with the thread

    Aria PEB65

Still comes out at 32.5 Thats a new scale to me, so I’ve ordered medium scale strings.

    Aria PEB65

Yeah the saddles seem pretty well set to me…. to get the scale down to 32 they would have to be all the way forward. I’ll measure to the 12th, cheers for that.

Yeah, I had a Les Paul a few years back, I definitely prefer the ergonomics of this.

    Aria PEB65

I’m a bit of an Aria fan, especially the MIJ & MIK stuff…. love my Integra 5. So I just picked this (tired and dirty) Korean PEB65…. just before starting the work on it, I’ve discovered it’s what appears to be Medium scale… 32.5 nut to saddles? Odd measurement? Anyway, beautiful arched top, flame maple I think, trans blue with binding. Nicely carved and ergonomic, and a nice weight. Active too…. Which I wasn’t expecting. Watch this space
  17. I’ve had few… for no particular reason, just fancied them at the time. MIJ Fender Marcus miller Jazz was a stunner, so good I had 3! Why… no idea. Now, I have one…. A Squier Frank Bello jazz…. and I don’t even like Anthrax…. I just fancied butchering it and modding it to death, so it doesn’t bare any resemblance to the original sig version at all now. Great bass, I play it most days actually.
  18. “Service? It’s nearly 20yrs old mate, it needs new f****** pots and fans mate, then it’ll last another 20yrs” Always good to hear it like it is, from a fellow northerner 😉. I’ve had Mark Bass, Trace, Fender, TC etc…. but none of them ever sounded as good as my old ABM rig from years ago. So that’s why I wanted another. This one came up at a great price, needing some love, which it’s now getting. Can’t wait to hear it.
  19. Thanks for sharing your story 🙂 Great basses those, I tried one years ago in Sound Control and loved it, but I was looking for a Stingray at the time. Very nice bass.
  20. All the basses you’ll ever need right there.
  21. Works for me…. I said it was yours
  22. And you’ll find yourself in a Premier Inn staring at the 11th bass you’ve bought in 6 months, wondering how you’ll get it past the Mrs tomorrow. Unlike myself of course
