  1. Ah, Bass Direct. I’m not enamoured with them at all, following my experience with them, and other similar stories from others.
  2. Again, send it straight back. That’s not good enough from a reputable business.
  3. Assuming you ordered a brand new set, I’d be sending them back regardless of who sent them. If it’s a “new” full set of strings, I want to see the proper packaging, as that’s what I paid for.
  4. My stuff is always at hand… a bass and amp are always set up in the front room. Same with my artwork… always there ready to draw should the inspiration grab me.
  5. The Gretsch is a great bass. Bought one for my ex……wanted to hate it……. ended up hating her instead…… kept the bass…… loved it……. needed some money……. sold the bass…… still hate the ex……. the bass is highly recommended.
  6. I don’t even bother “bumping” my for sale ads anymore. I assume that no-one is interested the first time around, so they won’t the second time either.
  7. I’m not even sure, south, Almaria I think.
  8. Oh man, I wish…. Beautiful thing from a really cool company. Jake is a really great guy by all accounts.
  9. We went and watched a horrific Rod Stewart tribute act last night, a guy from Manchester, who sings to backing tracks, karaoke style. It was hilarious. But we’re in the middle of nowhere, and it was at this weird bar/farm in the mountains. Crazy experience.
  10. Yeah it’s not bad like
  11. I’m on holiday, in Spain, it’s fab, I haven’t had a holiday in years, sun, sea, food, sunburn etc etc……. BUT, while away…… does anyone one else look at pictures of their gear, and look forward to seeing it again when you get home? Like missing the dog you had to put into kennels? 😆 A picture came up on my phone, of a couple of my basses, and my heart did a little flip….. it’s pathetic right? I’m drinking coffee by the pool….. and I’m on here, looking at the latest posts….
  12. When I started playing, that’s all there was available, Rotos. I really dislike them. Very rough and uncomfortable on the fingers. As a player who now mostly uses flats, they’re the work of the devil.
  13. Start the claim with PayPal straight away, don’t wait for Thomann, it’s business, and no time to be polite.
  14. She’s ace…. I haven’t seen her for a long time… last I heard she was selling her ‘65 Jazz, which I’ve wanted for many years…. but £10K…. couldn’t afford it.
  15. Great basses at any price. Any of the Yamaha RBX basses are ace... I loved my 460 and kind of regret selling it. I also had a 170 for a while, really great bass, light and comfortable and sounded great. I think these are underrated.
  16. Big fan of Hohner, I’ve had a couple and they superb imo. Arguably the best active jazz sound I’ve ever had was a Hohner B Bass. Also David is a top guy to deal with. This is a great instrument with some great potential.

For those interested… Final tweeks done, just some paint/finish swirls to try and minimise. Crackly Jack socket seems to be cured by rotating a rolled piece of fine sandpaper around inside to abrade the contacts and a squirt of switch cleaner. Really lovely bass, very modern tone, powerful output, very bright and zingy but still has a lot of bottom boost….. kind of Stingray like, and unexpectedly so. Totally unlike any of my others basses, so the perfect addition to the family. Over and out.
  18. Oh no… not the “plays like butta” statement…. 😆, not popular on here matey 😉 However…… an SB900 ….. I’d give my right arm for. Looking forward to pics.
  19. I learned long ago…. Clearly printed destination address label on the front, with a clearly printed return label on the rear. Pack the item with care, send it with proof of postage, and most of the time all is good. Despite this, I’ve had artwork go missing, even with tracking and signature required.
  20. Anyone recommend a really good scratch/swirl removal product on a guitar finish?
  21. Every bass is different. Same manufacturer, same factory, same model…. different. Embrace the differences, the weight, the feel…. and leave them all as they are.

Ok, so all cleaned up, fretboard oiled and a new set of medium gauge strings. Very nice indeed. Very comfortable to play, nice action (you could drive a car under it before, it’s no wonder people dislike guitars and sell them, because they can’t set them up!). OOF!! Crazy output, I wasn’t expecting that, almost Stingray levels of top end. No idea what the controls are, I’ve found Volume and tone I think, I guess another is pickup blend? No idea what the fourth one does, Treb/Bass cut/boost? Anyway it’s a fabulous thing, very pretty and very punchy…. so there’s some more investigation to do.
