  1. I haven’t been to a bash in about 20yrs 😞
  2. I absolutely see it as the former. It’s the first thing I look at in the morning, and the last thing at night. It’s a blessing (banter, information) and a curse (for sale section), but it’s a safe place, full of like minded folks, of all backgrounds and ages. Some people here I’ve known for decades, some I meet on a daily basis, and most feel like friends. I was relatively young ish when BC started, now I’m not, and I’m definitely financially worse off. Of course there’s often a difference of opinion, sometimes even a bit of needle, but mostly we’re all on a similar road, just don’t mention politics 😒 Generally though, to have this resource as a reference for information and advice about all things Bass is a wonderful thing, and I just think everyone involved in the running of Basschat should have a pat on the back. Because it takes a lot of work to keep this place going. 🤘🏻
  3. Another one here… Both knees, but I’m struggling with both shoulders and a hip too. I’m feeling very old. I’ve been fit (“a matter of opinion” - Mrs Rayman) all my life, but now in my late 50s, I’m falling apart. Just standing up for the duration of a rehearsal or gig is very uncomfortable now. I’m trying lighter basses, shortscale and playing with the bass lower on the strap to make life easier.
  4. I love H&C. Pat Kanes’ voice is a thing of beauty, and let me tell you, having seen them live a few months ago, his voice is as good as ever. I kicked myself for not trying to find him after the gig and tell him.
  5. 6am….. Watching Phil Jones explain how little speakers work for bass….
  6. I nearly said last night, let’s see pictures….. very cool
  7. Yep, I’d have the neck off, and just try a couple of adjustments in either direction to be sure the truss rod works ok. It looks alright to me, I’ve seen worse. Just make sure it isn’t ragged up tight with no further adjustment available.
  8. That’s very cool….. I’ve never heard of them. Sonic Blue with an off white pearl plate….. I’d buy one
  9. I think the Icicle Works did one of those Sefton Park gigs…… they were an ace band….
  10. 😍
  11. Nice…… is that a JMJ ?
  12. Thank you sir
  13. This probably needs moving to gear gallery @ped?
  14. I haven’t done this for years, and I was bored, SO… Top left to right: 2 x Sunn Mustangs, Epiphone Embassy, Squier Frank Bello. Lay down: Reverend Justice Bottom left to right: Ibanez Jet Star, Epiphone Newport, Warwick Streamer Standard (German) and an Aria IGB68. The only one missing is an incoming Thunderbird.
  15. First gig was 14, as the frontman of a rock covers band….. 6 songs, the usual suspects, Hendrix, Deep Purple etc…. That was 44 yrs ago 😞 I didn’t pick up the bass until a year later.
  16. Trip Hop session….. probably way too loud for the neighbours
  17. It’s the only time I can ever remember actually shaking while meeting someone.
  18. I was a fan back in the day….. “Do you wanna hold me” “what’s the time hey buddy” “I want Candy” were always on in the house…. I was in love with Annabella Lwin ❤️ I saw Mathew Ashman (guitarist) play with the Chiefs of Relief supporting Big Audio Dynamite at the Haçenda in Manchester. Paul Cook (Sex Pistols) was on the drums. I was lucky enough to meet them all outside the club before the soundcheck, Mathew, Paul, Don Letts and Mick Jones (Clash)….. I don’t get star truck…. but I was that day. Sorry, that’s all gone off topic I loved the bass tone, that style of pick playing was my thing back then.
  19. TI flats on everything….. Jazz, P bass, Stingray, Fodera, Encore, Firewood….. everything.
  20. Are they still going??? Holy cow, I saw them decades ago with all the original members apart from the guy from the tribute band on vocals instead of Anderson who was on hiatus. My brother was the Yes fan, not me, but it was cool to see Mr Squire play, and to listen to Wakemans’ wondrous stories.
  21. I always have respect for artists who use their own signature guitars….. and I don’t mean just on one song in order to promote sales, I mean actually use it during most of a gig. I think it validates the instrument. Of course, they could just be skint and have no choice!
  22. I stood next to Norman and Chas Jankel at the bar of the Waterside in Sale, the last time I saw them live. I nudged my brother and whispered should we say hello? We decided it was weird, and totally ignored him….. 😒
  23. My particular example wasn’t that great in terms of craftsmanship. Maybe they’re better than they used to be, but I wasn’t impressed with mine at all.
  24. Yeah I found the ebanol on a GWB35 marked really easily with roundwounds. Tonally I couldn’t hear the difference to an Ebony board on another bass. What I did notice was half the white fret lines started to lift out of the ebanol on the Ibanez…. I had to get them glued back in. Probably more down to poor craftsmanship than materials though.
