I bought a rather splendid EBS Octaver, no fuss, no bother, top geezer.

Amazing gig. Incredible band, and a very very talented bunch of guys indeed, all complementing the music beautifully. Some of the interplay between them was stunning. At one point there was Bass, keys and sax on one side of the stage having their own little jam, while the drums, guitar and trumpet had their own thing going on, all within the same song, it was a joy to hear and see. The new material from the new CD "Renaissance" sounded fantastic to, so I can't wait for that either. Top man, top band, top music, and a thoroughly nice chap afterwards too. If you get the chance to go and see him, do it. Washed down with a chilled well known orange coloured energy drink. Perfect way to end the night.

Interesting. I've been playing many years, and never really noticed it before.

Anyone else notice their E strings going dead pretty quickly with Ernie Ball Super Slinkys? I noticed it with one of my jazzes, the other 3 strings were still nice and zingy, but the E sounded dull and lifeless. I bought a set of TI flats for that particular jazz, and happy days, it's great. THEN I noticed it on the Precision too, dull sounding E string again. These are relatively new strings we're talking about here, no more than a month old on the Jazz. Anyone have anything similar?

Yeah, the neck is fabulous, best thing about it, and really, in keeping with the roadworn theme, Fender should do it with all the RW basses IMO. It's so smooth and easy to play, it's really lovely. The only reason for moving it on really is because I love my Geddy just that bit more, plus I prefer the 70s pup spacing.

Fender Roadworn Jazz, fantastic thing, but I just don't need 2 Jazzes. Plays great, lovely Jazz honk, superb neck very easy to play, and it's nice and light too, much lighter than my Geddy. I'm looking for around £600, open to trades, I'd be interested in a nice 5er. Genuinely reluctant on this one, but what's the point in having two Jazzes, I'd rather having something different, Lakland, Warwick maybe? OR........I'd like a nice guitar, Strat etc, but nothing pointy though, and I don't need any amps or effects thanks. The old "I might withdraw it chestnut" , but....I might.

Ahh, my first bass, 30 years ago was a Columbus, a Jazz, not a P bass. Fond memories.

MIM Fenders can be average, but as said previously, they can also be fantastic. I had a MIM Precision at one point, and it was a superb bass, in every way. MIJ (Japan) is widely seen as a good buy, QC seems to be good, but I have had my hands on a couple of clunkers too, so try before you buy is always best. I love Fenders, but that's just me, plenty on here hate them. Lakland Duck Dunn is a superb P bass, but under £500? You'll be lucky. How about a Yamaha BB414 or similar? Fantastic basses the Yamaha BBs, and you can still find 1980s BB2000s or 3000s on ebay, or even a BB1100S, great range of basses. How about this one? I've gone the other way, I've always loved a cutting and bright tone. The mistake I was making was that I was getting a great sound for me, on stage, while standing right in front of the amp. It sounded fantastic to me. However, during one gig I went and stood out in the venue on a table (don't ask) during a song, and it dawned on my how thin and weak my sound was near the back of the venue. So over the last couple of years my live sound has become much more mid and bottom orientated, with just a nice little click to the strings as I play them to punch through a little, and the sound out front is a million times better. As far as a boomy sound goes I've had that too, in a couple of larger venues with wooden floors. So for those I brighten up the tone a bit, and boost the high mids a little, and that seems to work well.

Right I think I'm getting somewhere. Thanks for all the input, I'll keep playing with it, and annoying the neighbours. On a side note, the pedal, regardless of toneprints, sounds wonderful.
-
OK I'll try that, it's all plugged in now. I'll try the Family of Rats again, because it's so mad sounding I should hear a difference.
-
OK.... Pedal connected via USB.......power lead plugged in.......footswitch depressed so red light on......no jack leads plugged into sockets.....toneprint switch in the middle......downloaded sweet m***er zip file and opened it.......grey box appears with download bar.....pressed upload and bar goes to 100%......SO I assume that's it? If I plug in and play I should now have the Toneprint?? Let's try......... Sounds the same if I flick between toneprint and flanger setting, no difference.
-
Yeah it did. When downloading the toneprint via USB, the download bar goes up to 100% as it should, and then nothing happens? I'm sure it's just something I'm doing wrong, I'm plugging it in now to try again.
