1.
I work with the singer/guitarist with Stubb:
Happen to know what the amp is in the pic? Looks kinda like the Thor I sold to Rose Kemp. Kinda wished I'd had a look inside it first, they are very rare.
 2.
I teach on a BTEC music course. We had a couple of Laney DC30 valve amps. Channel switching and sounded good. Obviously my students could not EVER look after them and we were constantly mending them. They could not seem to go more than 3 weeks without breaking them. We need something SS probably which will take a hammering but not sound rubbish and cost approx £250. Obv they will turn everything up to the max as soon as we turn our backs - it appears to be in their job description. Any ideas?
What is breaking? Maybe that is the thing that should be sorted, either mechanically, or by education. If its input jacks, then SS isn't very relevant.
 3. Oh yeah, the other thing people don't realise is that you only set a maximum and ebay bids only what is necessary and no-one can see your maximum until someone exceeds it. So no aspect of showing your hand.
 4.
I was rather hoping that his metal band would be the Korean Versailles, but unfortunately it's not to be.
I was hoping for Sigh. He should probably go play bas in Sigh, would make a good counter point to Dr. Mikannibal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG67LZZpWeA
 5. People got this idea that the winner is the person who bids least last. Actually, the winner is Ebay. Its nice for sellers because if you get tons of watchers, you know to increase your start price before those last minute bids come in, handy hint you might have underpriced. A bid locks you from editing most things
 6. Waiting on loadsa parts arriving from the Far East, where the best bass hardware is made.
 7. Shoulda just bid. Might have put it high enough he'd let it run.
 8.
It has also been professionally modified to have no controls
"My job is taking the controls out of basses."
 9.
PS: Has anyone put a switch mode PSU into a "conventional" (solid state) Amp? -would preserve the original sound (if you believe that there's a difference), but save a ton of weight.
Little Mark has SMPS in a class A/B output amp. Peavey made a valve amp with SMPS. It tookk a while to figure coupling SMPS and class D output so they did other things with it in the meantime.
 10.
I wonder where he gets his stock from. People pay a premium on these items because they are supposed to be rare... he doesn't seem to have a problem finding them at all - presumably he has that much vintage gear for sale 365 days a year.
Its just a case of finding it first. Stuff might be rare individually, but there are quite a lot of things that are rare.
 11. Great thing about flamenco is that everyone is sort of aware of it, and are sort of aware its quite hard to play, but most haven't listened very hard. So if you have the fairly basic bassist ability to play quite fast with fingers, and do a phrygian run up and down one string of any nylon strung guitar about (one string so you don't even have to tuned it) people think you are dead good.
 12. Being a pioneer kinda means you have to make up the technique as you go along.

 14.
Asturias played by John Williams
Ah man, switched back to tab and rewound to 3:17 to see how he got that awesome sound from a classical.
 15. You should swear less in it, so kids can read it and be encouraged to play around inside electrical equipment.
 16.
When you say extend the port do you mean widen it?. I'm a complete novice when it comes to speaker techy stuff.
I mean make it longer. With a round one you fin another tube and telescope it, or roll something suitable up.
 17.
Thanks for the feedback guys - am mindful of the weight but guess it's good exercise Anyone know of a good valve head out there that gives the sound but is more portable ? I'll try out a Nexus properly anyway - from demos it seems awesome.
The Nexus is very flexible, so it has lots of sounds. Means knob twiddling to get it, but shutting them off for clean, you don't really get varieties of clean, it heads towards not clean. Edit: Also 400w takes a lot to drive.
 18. Heavy enough strings will retain some tension when detuned, but best is to get some made for the tuning you are in.
 19. It appears to be rackmountable, the sleeve is made pretty well for carrying, proper handles. Preamp is fiddly, but you can shut off most of it. You can also shut off all of it, giving no sound, which is a bit worrying when you are trying to demo it. It isn't very heavy for a 400w valve head. Used one recording the Caricatures album, then traded for one later on. Moved on due to vintage head overload. Wouldn't be afraid of using one now.
 20. Big magnets come in useful a lot. Or clingfilm it an fill it with cornstarch paste and run low notes through it.
 21. It is a pretty big deal to match speakers and cabs, but the Kappalite is pretty happy in standard sized cabs, usually the port is a bit small for full power. If it is the big peavey 15, might do OK to extend the port a bit for a lower tuning if it comes across as boomy.
 22.
I defy most peoples' speakers to reproduce that, even if the microphone could have recorded it properly to start with ! What an amazing instrument though. Not sure I've got room for one, either at home, or in the car on the way to a gig ...
Can hear it as a sound fine via youtube. Just shows how much the fundamental doesn't matter, it doesn't even come out of the instrument.
 23. As per other thread, fill the slot in with white powder of choice, and recut: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/174693-odd-temporary-nut-repair-but-it-worked/
 24. Is the neck new and the body s/h? Prob go for the body. Bear in mind you don't want to allow the neck to go wonky, use a block to sand, or a file so it stays flat. Fill the bridge holes and re-align the bridge when the neck is on.
 25.
Since 1987, the Fender Custom Shop has been a "dream factory," producing guitars that are to playing what Ferraris are to driving.
Remember that Ferrari model that came on fire?
