I just sold the combo version. Singer might let his 60w head go. I have some other Laney heads to go.

Rosewood looks much cooler when it is heavily worn, maple tends to look horrible when it is worn.
-
I sort of reckon the maple is better association comes from all the cheap basses for a fair period having rosewood boars. It isn't so much the case any more. I like purpleheart fingerboards. I find a board I can oil satisfying, an my maple board basses don't get so much play.

Since this place is now known to be under the eye, maybe posting stuff here is doing a bit of a disservice. Maybe people after them should just post here instead, and become informed by PM. Need to figure how to not have them totally spammed I guess.

Just glad no-one notice the top amps are just sleeves because I couldn't lift whole ones that high. That lady was about as tall as me in those heels and wanted to have a full length backdrop of amps. They did suggest I add the SC200 to the top of the pile, I said 'Sure, pass it up to me.'.

Doing it wrong with the 1 amp: Credit: [url]http://www.charistalbotphotography.co.uk/[/url] And the lovely Amy Dawn. Also her legs.

Remember the 175w rating on a cab is thermal only, but bass pushes the excursion limit, which depends on frequency, and the relevant minimum is probably around half of the thermal limit.

[quote name='umph' timestamp='1335187088' post='1626849'] That's a lie. they're are loads [/quote] I have three rooms where there are none, if that counts.

[quote name='bertbass' timestamp='1335061488' post='1625345'] The pcb is only used to fix the tags too and not a pcb as such, so true point to point wiring. [/quote] Tags isn't point to point either, if there is a tag at either end, its not going from point to point. The preamp baord isn't a through hole PCB, but still a PCB, and the power section board is full on PCB. Not point to point wiring. Point to point means stuff everywhere, because the two points don't ten to be lined up in neat rows when a necessity of bunches of those points is being arranged in circles: http://mhuss.com/AmpInfo/ Here's some point to point:

[quote name='Cosmo Valdemar' timestamp='1335185355' post='1626820'] I used one at rehearsal the other day, it was almost ridiculously loud and didn't lose any bottom end as the gain was cranked. However, I didn't like it. As has been mentioned before, it only really has one basic tone, and I just didn't get on with it at all. If I was in a Sleep tribute band it would be perfect though [/quote] I'd be pretty disappointing at a Sleep tribute with mini amps. Unless they were all midgets, that would be awesome. Now I am going to be disappointed at a Sleep tribute that isn't midgets.

Yeah, the Wilkos turned out too big, these were a different set with the issue, supplier is sending out new one so no massive issue.

Assuming its two 16 ohm speakers in the 2x10 (which isn't a great assumption, but for hypothetical ideal scenario), best scenario is a 16ohm speaker in the 1x10, so you can have three tens with equal distribution of power totaling 5.3ohm.

2 of 14 or 14 of hundreds just isn't a good enough hit ratio to justify their price point. I picked my main bass from a rack of a couple of dozen, minus a few that were sold before I got there, I could have bought all of them, and binned the others and still come out ahead of buying a Rick. If someone is credulous enough to not think that my advice is not the final word and completely without flaws regardless of my reasoning, which I always provide, then they are clearly the sort of person who will be happy with whatever they are told anyway, so my advice will automatically be right. They are probably the sort who judges quality by brand and regardless of price, and thus in need of guidance lest they start paying art prices for paintbrushes.

Don't fuss too much over watts. More of the same speakers (different impedance individual speakers means they are different) are the way for more volume and same tone. If it is loud enough as is, its fine, as long at you exercise a little caution. Less speakers is pretty much never going to be a win, but the main thing to do is use what you have best, and that means stacking in a vertical line, maybe turning the lower one to face the rummer or whoever needs a good idea of what you are playing, top one facing you so you'll know if it gets upset. Does teh head to to 2ohm? if not, a 4ohm cab would require disabling the internal speaker, probably not a good call.

[quote name='Clarky72' timestamp='1335136463' post='1626326'] I've looked at Gotoh 203, but the baseplate is too thick this giving me high action [/quote] Authentic Fender bit of fag packet will sort that. Strip of sandpaper is also the later version, as it grips better. I favour train tickets as they are about the right size.

The speaker will run out of steam when it is recieving the same power, but you'll have more volume from the more speakers. The issue you might have is you won't hear it running out of steam, because if I'm looking at this right, you have one 8 ohm speaker, and two 16ohm/4ohm ones, wired in such a way that half the output of the amp will be shared between them, whilst the single speaker takes teh other half, leaving the problem that it will run out of steam whilst the others are at half power. This means you are both wasting the potential of the pair of rivers an their output will make that of the complaining single speaker. That said, put the stacked so you have a single line of speakers vertically, and you'll hear the top one complaining easy enough.

J Pickup on a P - boring but wanna get it right. help appreciated
Mr. Foxen replied to a topic in Repairs and Technical
See build diaries for Shockwave's one with 70s spacing. Its not going yet, but will be when this tuner arrives. I'm expecting it to sound like a J bridge pickup. -
Or not playable art. Yes its my opinion, because everything I say is my opinion. My opinion, however, is backed up by experience, knowledge, thought etc, and additionally wealth of observable and demonstrable facts. Only one Rickenbacker that has come through my hands did so purely for aesthetic reasons and even then was in anticipation of the same issue occurring. Telling someone to buy what they want isn't advice, it is wasted words. They are seeking advice to figure the best way to realise what they want, and only if a fully functioning good value for money instrument was their absolute last priority, would I advise Rickenbacker, and even then I'd advise a couple of products to deal with the more immediate inadequacies, depending on their playing style (assuming playing it is a consideration for them). Being a piece of art doesn't mean something can also be called a bass, a musical instrument, or playable, and I'd put those things far ahead in my recommendations I wouldn't hire Jackson Pollock to paint my house, I'd definitely advise others to avoid doing so. I'm much better qualified to hold opinions about music gear.
-
My objection is based on the same objection I have to any product who's main selling point is a high price based on no substance. I buy things based on them being good for purpose, at price. I advise anyone else to do the same. I'm a guy who people go to for advice when it comes to bass gear, not so much for decorations.

[quote name='Valhalalf' timestamp='1335127083' post='1626191'] I'm considering getting a LH1000 head to replace my ABM EVO III mainly for the extra headroom and simplicity. I'm just tentative to pull the trigger on one as I'll be using it with 2x 8ohm Ashodwn MAG cabs (2x10 + 1x15) and not sure if it'll play nicely with them and can't afford to replace the cabs. [/quote] They don't even play nicely with each other, so nice play probably won't be an issue, aside from them not playing nice leads to one or other of them dying (followed by the other one dying if you turn up to compensate). Sell the 2x10, use the money to load the 15" with a Kappalite 3015, and put some knobbly foam in there. Any resemblance between the preceding suggestion and real life events are entirely intentional.
