1. Bookmatched light flame is bit fancy.
2.
Oh well, wait about 9-12 months and import used from the US. Have a tech switch the voltage. Bish bosh.
Probably going to mean a new transformer, pretty expensive, as probably have to get one made, unlikely to be a standard drop in. American made for domestic stuff doesn't tend to have taps even on the transformer.
3. Preamp valves are plug and play, get some, put them in, see if you dig.
4.
I sense a little doubt here. Why don't you try it and see, you may be surprised. Also, try turning the bass on your solid state head to full and see how loud it doesn't go.
You know that is totally down to the fact SS preamp means you actually can get a significant low boost, whilst a passive preamp as usually found on valve amps will pretty much just scoop mids and give a midbass hump instead?
5. Techs that have been in Mesa's aren't big on the newer ones either. Not as bad as Ampeg, but Mesa's whole 'you may only use our valves' thing puts them far behind.
6. Ibanez: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1973-Bass-Guitar-/220984092112?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3373ada5d0
7. Just been talking to a mate about Warwick Tubepath his bassist has, had trouble with the valves in it suffering, they probably aren't very good. If he is going to end up binning it, I might take it as a project for some token sum, might save double handling, I'm sort of interested to see what they are like.
8.
I can't see prices in the links?
£2375.75 for the Strategy £1568.69 for the Prodigy = Get Matamp.
9. Photoshop? MS Paint spray tool more like.
10. Be really sure you want rid before selling it. It hasn't huge value as is, and replacing it will be a case of paying for an amp with some sort of name, because you are unlikely to find another like it without a name.
11.
Expect this one to go quick. It's in California. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item48447b93e2
Looks like it might make it.
12. There probably won't be much bass output, but you might find that what you think is bass isn't actually bass at all, but your ear synthesising it from harmonics. I don't think the micro terror is class D though, only 20w output doesn't need the complication.
13. bought this as a restoration job after I sold my 150, because more is more. I've just been having a little chat with Matamp and there's a possibility I can have the ultimate old and new combined amp made, so starting a pot for that. Not massively keen or rushed to sell this, fairly hard to get hold of, but putting it out there. It has just been valved, recapped and thoroughly gone over, although the power light doesn't work, and I didn't notice till I put it all back together (the standby one does work). I can put more sensible knobs on it, I just put those on after having a smarty top vs. black chicken heads internet debate. £750. Can probably ship, rather not though.
14. I know you can't record heavy metal in it.
15. There was a series of UK made ones, not sure how easy it is to tell by looking which you have.
16. If you are considering a new Orange, get a Matamp instead.
17. I use stacked volumes for that sort shenanigans, means you can bring them both down at once or fiddle with balance.
18. The circuit is far more important than the tube. Loads of three band eq are fender tonestacks that are fundamentally mid scooped, fin something with a two band Baxandall eq and you actually have more tone options, like a mid boost.
19. I think you need to find better sources. Preamp valve has pretty much no bearing on power output.
20. Recorded the Caricatures album in Jim Barr's studio, so gonna assume the blue jazz is the relic one that was laying about there I was noodling on. Was a bit disappointed it wasn't properly old, but it was nice enough.
21. I have a Laney Protube AOR 30 1x12 combo, seems pretty good.
22. I've definitely heard the difference before and after sticking knobbly foam in a cab, it was an acoustic 2x15 so shallow front to back and had an ugly bit high up, possibly the shallowness front to back meant it was quite high and thus greatly affected by lining?
23. I'd guess the dowels being round is enough to mean they aren't a source of interfering reflections. Dampening should be acoustically transparent to the low frequencies for the port, but keep it a bit clear of the port because the airflow will be a bit disturbed and tend towards sucking the stuff out the port and move about distractingly if you can see it.
